Battery life numbers are much lower than my Legion Pro 7i Gen 8. I'm getting 4-5 hours with "quiet" mode, 60hz screen refresh, and 50% screen brightness. It is difficult sometimes to get the discrete GPU to actually turn off, leading to bad battery life. I use the Legion Toolkit open source app to view and manage the state of the GPU
My numbers were at 240hz and balanced mode, so with 60hz enabled and quiet mode, you could very well be looking at that 4-5hr mark
U compared your laptop gen 8 with gen 8?.u mean same laptop
@@huzair8751 I was going to say the same lol XD
Bro we don't want you to test Valorant on a 4080GPU, do some RDR2 or something like that
Exactly the last of us, gow, etc
To me the mic on the legion was clearer than yours lmao. Great review tho hopefully i can snag one when i travel to US for vacation in August
Fair point…
I picked up this exact machine a week before black friday 2023 for $1899 from B&H Photo. Originally paid $2099 but B&H Lowered the price by $100 two more times. Super happy with it. Build quality is very high compared to my asus rog scar 16.
Did you get it brand new or refurbished?
@@jetrilag3029 new
Any coil whine? I was ready to get an Asus SCAR 18, but soooo many reviews with high coil whine, I starded looking other options.
The other option was Alienware M18, but than reviews saying it's an oven, constantly at 99 degrees and many people repasting it already.
MSI GE78 looks good, also Aorus 17X... these 2 and Legion Pro 7i are now fighting in my head.
No coil whine in my 7i Pro, I have the 4080 model, but coil whine differs between individual machines, so cannot guarantee that none of the Legions will have it. You can buy two identical laptops from the same brand, same model, same specs; yet one could have coil whine whereas the other not.
Legion Pro is your best bet for gaming. Other brands may have slightly better specs, but Lenovo nails it with all the important everyday details such as solid overall build quality, a useful selection of ports, a 'best in the business' keyboard, and effective cooling where fan noise does not get obnoxiously loud.
same reason I dropped scar 16. If this had mini led screen, I would buy it in a flash.
@@little_fluffy_clouds mate, does this laptop stay complete silent while light coding or doing college assignment works? Would you recommend buying this for coding and occasional gaming? How would you rate its display considering it's just an ips panel
@@yashj8238 it’s completely quiet when doing regular productivity work such as email, web browsing, word processing or spreadsheets. Fans will ramp up if you’re compiling a big project which taxes the CPU (or GPU if you’re using OpenCL, CUDA, etc.), but it’s never an annoying whiny fan noise, just a gentle whoosh of air. The 4080 and 4090 models use a vapour chamber to cool both the GPU and CPU; and it works well. Liquid Metal is used to mate the CPU to the heatsink, for additional efficiency.
The display is as good as it gets in IPS class. Very bright, no backlight bleed and minimum IPS glow in the corners although this varies from individual panel to panel. It also supports HDR400, but it doesn’t have full array backlight dimming, so HDR quality cannot compare to OLED or mini LED, but it’s still nice to have as an option for games and movies. The keyboard is great and the touchpad is fine, although I use an external wireless mouse. Overall, I think it’s an excellent notebook computer package, especially since I got mine at a much lower price compared to competing brands.
If Lenovo adds an OLED screen option to future models next year, I might be tempted to upgrade (I use an Alienware ultrawide QD-OLED monitor with my desktop PC and it’s breathtaking)
@@little_fluffy_clouds I have this and a scar 16 and the coil whine on the ROG is outrageous and this one has none.
Nice review! This laptop is definitely gona be one of the best selling ones this year!
What camera are you using btw? looks great!
Luck to have a professional photographer in the household, so borrow the canon 1dx mark iii when I can
Performance wise it is the top. Check your Time Spy 4080 laptop ranks and check #1.
Hey got a question for u my friend so I have a Predator Orion 3000 PO3-640 Gaming PC - Intel Core i5, 16GB RAM 1TB HDD, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 I want to put a i7 processor in this pc am I able to do that thanks
the way you said "mic array" sounded like "microwave" and i had to do a double take
Can we see a gen 8 pro 5 vs pro 7?
Great content and thanks for the detailed review! But when testing it, do you think that when typing the keyboard flex is noticeable? Or is it Negligible?
Negligible
Just got one for the cost of 3070 2300 on sale yesterday hope it’s good looks good
Also on wz we’re you playing warzone or the campaign
Should I buy this lenovo legion or acer predator helios 18 inch with 250hz mini led display with 1000 nits brightness? Other specs are same. Please recommend me which one to buy. Acer costs 120 to 150 US dollars more than Lenovo but I love the bigger screen and mini led display.
Go for what you love. I've got the lenovo and it's amazing
I ordered one a few days ago and im now researching external monitors with high refresh rates. However, Lenovo tells me the output from my Legion Pro 7i Gen 8 with an RTX 4080 for an external monitor only goes up to 60hz. Im confused, what benefit would their be to use a 144hz external monitor if the laptop is only putting out 60hz? Im hoping they're incorrect.
Please advise me on this if they're incorrect.
same situation, did you find an answer?
@@TheSavanage Not from Lenovo. The laptop is arriving on Tuesday and I plan on testing it. If what they say is true it will be going back. However, I suspect my findings will be that the integrated CPU GPU is limited to 60Hz but the dedicated RTX 4080 GPU will be capable of high refresh rates up to 240Hz.
@@Musicalpa did you see this off. spec.? I can't paste the link, but it says the following:
Monitor Support
Supports up to 4 independent displays (native display and 3 external monitors via HDMI® and USB-C®)
• HDMI supports up to 4K@60Hz
• USB-C supports up to 4K@60Hz
• Thunderbolt™ supports up to 4K@60Hz
About the integrated graphics... are just your thoughts or have there been similar cases?
@@TheSavanage Yes, that's the data the Lenovo rep provided me with, and this may very well be the specs for the integrated GPU, however, I doubt those are the specs for the dedicated NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 GPU.
My understanding from watching countless videos is that you can choose to either use the integrated CPU GPU when connecting an external display monitors, or use the dedicated and significantly more powerful dedicated GPU for the external monitors. Furthermore, it appears that all of the other laptop manufacturers who make laptops with external monitor capabilities have it set up to use the integrated GPU which is limited in capabilities or the much more capable dedicated GPU. I'll find out soon enough when it gets here, and if my Lenovo Legion Pro 7i Gen 8 with an NVidia RTX 4080 only puts out a maximum of 60 Hz refresh rate to external monitors, it will go back and I'll get an ASUS ROG Scar with an RTX 4080 which I know is capable of high refresh rates for external monitors. I'll also try to remember to post it here. However, If you don't hear back from me here, then take it as indicating high refresh rates work on external monitors.
@@Musicalpa Ok, maybe I can get my laptop on Monday, then I will write earlier
However, NO glass trackpad ... And no Windows Hello?
OH NOOOOOO!
I’m fine with it.
I always have a wireless mouse. Ill take the savings in price for a track pad I never use.
What are the cons?
Useless features for a gaming laptop
Can you turn on the RGB when the lid is closed?
Charger where is the charger show it to us 😂. We all know us lenovo users hate that damn big brick 🥲 has it gotten smaller? Do you get a type c charger with it like asus does?
It’s in the video, still the similar brick
Can you add in a SSD drive not talking about M.2
Better than a Omen 16 ?
Its my dream laptop but not able to buy even legion 5
Speaker camera doesn't matter on a gaming device, wow! 😑
It really doesn't matter that much. Lenovo still put decent speakers and okay cameras in but most people either plug in their headset when gaming or have a plug-in speaker system anyway.
@@abot4694 so a gaming laptop is only used for gaming, not for meetings, productivity, content streaming! Woww 😲
@@hritamnath4919 If that shit is what matters the most to you, find something else that suits you.
@@hritamnath4919 yes, usually when someone spends 3 grand on a laptop, it's the only PC they own... no reason to have 2 PCs if one of them is really powerful. So yes, people will meet with it and camercas are not bad for that, actually great. Nobody needs pro cameras for a meeting... actually most people turn their cameras off in meetings. Lenovo camera is great. Asus ROG STRIX camera didn't even exist before and now it's a 720p camera at least.
If speakers and cameras are a priority, get an M2 MacBook Pro, instead
Is this a good laptop for photo and video editing?
no get a work machine aka a macbook this is a gaming laptop, not a work machine the processors and GPU are design for heavy loads from video games not photo editing software's, so it will not run as well plus Extreme overkill lol
its still insane for photo and video editing!@@nightfall4207
@@nightfall4207typical Apple fan, don’t listen to this goofy. I’ve had both laptops, the Mac book pro would damn near burn through the table after opening 3 google tabs😂
@@nightfall4207nah both will run photo and video editing well
Is this worth the 3600 it has the 4090 32gb 2tb. To many options im new to laptop gaming. Every video everybody says everything they review is the best so confusing. I just play warzone 2.0 sims 4 a couple more and thats it. But i dnt like mid tier things that cost thousand of dollars. Is this the one to go with or is there something better. Budget 3600
The legion is pretty widely known year after year as the best *all-around* gaming laptop (typically).
Razer blade’s might be thinner and sleeker like a MacBook, but they’re also much more expensive for the same specs, and thermals can be an issue. Asus makes a range of good laptops for different use-cases (like the m16 which is real nice-looking, sleek laptop, or the scar 17, which is more powerful, but looks a lot more gamer-y, aesthetically speaking).
I personally picked up the legion 5i pro gen 8 (4070 variant), after not wanting to spend the money on another MacBook Pro without the features of a windows gaming PC. I initially had to return *three* gigabyte laptops after two failed to wake from sleep, and the third had an issue with g-sync. *FINALLY,* I have what I consider to be my perfect gaming laptop.
I cannot recommend it enough, so I can only try recommend the higher-tier 4080 version *even more.*
And every RUclips puts “BEST LAPTOP OF 2023” in every title because they get more attention, even when the laptop in question is shit.
@stefdezy1562 thank you so much
@@just_a_guy3303did you get this laptop how did you end up liking it? How does it run warzone that’s what I play and my laptop will get here soon
@Orly-pl4un yes I got it late July. I'm enjoying it. I average well above 200fps with high settings. Does run a lil warm I guess, gpu at about 78. I guess depending on air flow air temp around the gaming area it does hit that 40 degree mark but no issues. I haven't done anything to it how I got it is how it is. I'm affraid to change any cpu settings. So it might perform better if I did. Sucks because after I got it they came out with a newer one with the water cooling in it. Lol what a difference 30 days makes. Thanks for asking. Hope you enjoy it
@@just_a_guy3303 that’s really good I’m glad I’m upgraded I had no idea what 4080 and all that was at first and I researched and thought this was the best . And that’s good settings still for not messing with anything I probably won’t just to be safe lol
I just can't believe they downgraded it from the 2022 model. No fingerprint, fan rgb, pressure-sensitive wasd, etc.
Yeah world gonna end bro
@@huzair8751what’s fan rgb

Easy : 18 inch is the new KING and the rest like this legion are the pesants.
Fact.
I mean if people play on Monitors, which are way better then the Laptops Monitor then your comments is useless and dumb
@@invoked5114 subject in class today is laptops and not last year mambojambo.

13k subs and u selling yourself already 😢😢😢😢
My biggest complain about laptops this year and past year aren't efficient enough . why 10+++nm intel is paired to a 4nm nvidia.
A 30W 8core 5nm AMD CPU with 110W 4080 in 16 inch 16:10 2kg 75Whr, 350 x 250 x 21 mm dimension with 300gm power brick is a best of both world, light and powerful .
An upgradable GPU is the best thing Im dreaming GPUs gets obsolete every 4 year, CPU clocks is seeing a 10% improvement at most every year, software have to be re written to get use more cores, it may take some years .but gpu performance is 50-100% getting better every 2 year, As a Architect and ArchVizr. I always wanted this. I hope framework can figure out this problem. I Only wanted replaceable, GPU,RAM,SSD, it doesnt matter if cpu and motherbord is a single package.
