  • This very early 1961 E-Type Roadster project is available FOR SALE from Monocoque Metalworks. It is one of the first E-Type roadsters to be imported into Canada - in June of 1961 - and has the outside bonnet latches, flat floors, welded louvers, and literally HUNDREDS of other early E-Type features.
Interested parties should contact Chuck Hadley directly by phone in the US - (443) 907-2287, by WhatsApp outside the US using the same number - (443) 907-2287, or by email - chuck@monocoque-metalworks.com
The car is complete and we do have a heritage Certificate from Jaguar. It was built on June 13th, 1961, and dispatched to Jaguar Cars of Eastern Canada on June 28th in its original colors of Opalescent Dark Green with a Maroon interior and a Gunmetal top.
This E-Type has an interesting history in Canada, and I have included some discussion in this video about that. But most of the video is an extremely in-depth look at this car, and the features found on the first 500 outside bonnet latch E-Types - this particular car is VERY close to being the 100th LHD OTS produced...
These early cars have many components that are specific to the first 500 cars, and I have gone to great lengths to ensure that these pieces are included and correct, and in good, restorable condition.
This E-Type will need total restoration, and like all E-Types, that includes extensive metalwork and rust repair. It has had a hard life in the Canadian Winters, and that work will include complete reconstruction of the body shell, including full floors, inner and outer sills, boot floor, forward bulkhead, and more.
The bonnet is in better condition than the body shell - it is an original outside-latch, welded louver bonnet. It has had various dents and dings and bodywork in the past, but does not appear to have suffered any major collisions, and is in a good shape overall, with a good mouth shape. It is a very restorable bonnet and one of the better original OBL bonnets I have seen.
We can perform that metalwork here at Monocoque Metalworks after the sale, or the car can be purchased and delivered as-is for you to perform the work yourself or at the restorer of your choice in your own country.
The buyer of this car will receive full support during the restoration - I will be happy to help answer whatever questions I can about E-Type restoration in general - or specific questions about what is correct for a car this early. I have helped with the research on one of the recent originality books (using this car in that process...), and I have a personal relationship with many other early outside bonnet latch E-Type restorers, authors, researchers, and owners that I can leverage to help you as well.

Thks for video. Hope this one gets a re-birth. Owned 5 Jags. Watched Stirling Moss win Canadian Grand Prix at Mosport in 1st XKE (racing green) brought to Canada. Love at first sight. He devasted all the Porches! Bought a used 1958 XK150 coupe for $800 in 1966 at university. At 80, just got black 2001 XK8. 😍

I can't imagine that there were many black or dark green outside bonnet latch E-Types in that part of Canada at the time of that photo, so I agree with your 99.9% certainty. Of course, I also cannot image any E-Type owner standing on the bonnet either, let alone with his wife/girlfriend!

What dreams are made off. Someone will get an awesome project - I hope they restore it to its original colours and not make yet another 'red' E-Type.
