I don't think Season 20 is good, but I never took it being bad as a sign that the show was going downhill. I view it more as a failed experiment from Matt and Trey, who still had plenty of good tricks up their sleeves.
It’s certainly a low point but I think the true point where the show started to go downhill was around season 14. Season 5-12 feels like the true peak for me with the most consistently good episodes with all the classics and everything after has felt like they’re coasting on the show’s popularity but not many standout episodes.
I’ll never understand how many South Park fans can think Matt and Trey are Trump fans or that they align with the kinds of things he says just because they’re anti-PC. This commentary pretty much sums up their feelings that they think someone like that shouldn’t be the president. The show feels like it got too big for its own britches and now there is almost cult-like worship of the show (and by extension Matt and Trey) that is never meant to be taken seriously in the first place. Bigoted people imposing their views on South Park or even adopting their own opinions from South Park have kind of ruined some parts of the show for me. Like there is a lot of truth to the fact that the show taught antisemitism and bigotry in general to a lot of young boys. Of course you can’t blame media for bad parenting, but the fact of the matter is there’s a lot of shitty parents out there who won’t vet what their kids consume. You can’t really joke about trump as 1. He’s a narcissist who’s gets off on any attention in 2. He’s in a political field that thrives on getting as much coverage for as much broad dumb shit as possible, usually to hide even worse shit that if exposed to the public would get his ass in jail. 3. He looks like the portrait of the 80’s con man, he clearly didn’t want the job and only did it for the attention, and most of his policies are either comically stupid or comically vile.
