My book arrived yesterday afternoon and I finished it this morning. First off, I'm incredibly thankful that Riley decided to complete her mother's book, and that Lisa Marie was able to record the story to begin with. That being said, this is perhaps the saddest thing I've ever read. Elvis was a part of my life growing up. I can't remember a time when my parents didn't listen to his music, and I raised my own sons listening to him as well. I vividly remember the day he left us. And I also remember waiting years to hear Lisa sing. She was beautiful and talented and charismatic. I've always said that Priscilla deserved recognition for saving Graceland and for allowing the rest of us to see Elvis's home. In just the past 15 or so years I've really paid attention to the things that people have said about Priscilla, and it's been pretty negative. At times I defended her, but not now. Lisa's memoir has revealed what many people believed all along. The very idea that she constantly left her to be cared for by others after Elvis was gone was bad enough, but the fact that she allowed Mike Edwards to molest Lisa then blamed Lisa for it was the last straw. Although Lisa's book doesn't focus a lot on Priscilla, there are little snippets throughout that demonstrate just how awful her mom was. There was no healing after Elvis was gone, nothing to help her transition. And as Priscilla gained control over Graceland, then acquired her own fame on TV and in movies, she was less and less present in Lisa's life. Lisa never stood a chance at having a normal life. In interviews over the many years since Elvis's death, Priscilla always maintained that everything was done for Lisa's benefit. But in this book, we see that was never true. Lisa looked for attention in obviously bad ways, but went on to try and build a life of her own. Her own children became her focus and I believe that she was the best mom that she could be. Even her own grandparents were of no help. Patsy Presley (Elvis's double first cousin) became her mother figure. The book takes us through her entire life, the loss of her son, Ben, and then Lisa's death. It was beyond sad and it didn't have to be that way. Priscilla failed, massively.

Hey. Don’t forget the book is written from the perspective of a little girl who had just lost her “out of this world” father. I am sure her rejecting Priscilla had to do with the feeling that she had to come to terms with her father not being around anymore. And the PAIN that this implied, let’s remember the man who was no longer here and that she had to process was Elvis, one of the most loved persons in the world , who happened to be her father. I I’m sure Priscilla was clueless on how to handle the situation, and made terrible choices in seeking to give some structure for her daughter. She for sure was clueless, but hey, who could handle Lisa?

I always felt that Prissy set up Elvis from day one. Curry Grant told his story and it fits. She is a fake person who puts on this demure innocent act when she really was a honeypot trap that always craved money and fame for herself. IMHO.

@@Razzledazzle0106I agree, both her Parents Elvis and Priscilla made terrible choices that traumatized her and although her father has been placed on a petal stool ( I love him dearly) . He no doubt loved her, but his death was so traumatic that I think unbeknownst to little 9 yr old Lisa, it made her hate her mother and rebel which is what I took from what she was trying to say. Her mother could never compete with such a huge persona like Elvis… as she said Graceland was a place of no rules or structure, what kid would want to leave that and go to the other home that was structured?! Priscilla definitely made some huge mistakes but I think she was also traumatized too, a clueless young mom perhaps … I’m afraid this will villainize Priscilla even more, unfortunately. Regardless, I sensed so much trauma throughout the whole family. It’s hard not feel empathy for them all including Priscilla. An Icy personality doesn’t make you evil or a terrible person.

@@Razzledazzle0106 So according to what you are saying Priscilla was correct in letting her live in boyfriend remain living after he had been and continued to be inappropriate to Lisa in her bedroom at night from age 13. Not having her father anymore who she knew would have protected her and her mother allowing this monster to still live more than 3 years with them. No wonder she took drugs from age 13 to 17.

    • @debra2700

@@TTidewater41009 I did too until she sold out and let her grandmother hold center stage at Graceland and make Lisa Marie look like a liar and rewrite history with the very book that Lisa wanted to finally be able to tell the world the truth about her life. Priscilla lied and said Lisa talked to her about marrying Michael Jackson when she admitted on Oprah in 2003 that she didn't know her daughter had married him until she heard it on the news and helicopters were flying over her house to "see if I had drown myself in my pool at the news," Riley and Ben adored MJ and said he was very kind to them and now Riley allows Priscilla to do a hatchet job on him and worse than that, allow Oprah to make it book of the month. Priscilla allowed her 10 year old daughter to be molested and even though Mike Edwards admitted it in his book and even said that Priscilla had to know, he's now calling Lisa Marie a liar. Priscilla used Lisa to drive Elvis crazy and after his death she had no use for her own child. The book made me realize what a strong woman Lisa was and not the screw up we thought she was. Her life was so hard that most people would have killed themselves from the grief and the pressure.

It’s she that brings up how far it went. They both go together. He’s lucky ELVIS wasn’t alive when this came out because he’d not be able to walk. I see that Riley is the sole trustee of Graceland 😇 thank god as I think Priscilla erode that horse to long for her own benefit 😔 sad but true x where were the Presley’s and the smiths when Graceland opened 😢
As you can tell I don’t have a lot of respect for the girl Elvis loved and I believe she was his love but she was not in love with him 😩she was on a mission and now Riley has brought that to an end thank god 👊🏻😎 xx
This might upset some folk 😭 love was not the fairy tale ending for Elvis but you can never help who you fall in love with and that’s a fact xxx
Just read a wee bit of the book and Ginger in Lisa’s eyes isn’t coming out to good 🧐 nobody was ever going to be good for her dad anyway 🤩 xx
Linda Thomson was and I haven’t come to part in the book yet 🥰
I know my post is to long 🤪 I could go on and on lol xx
      I’m done xx

blame for Lisa's life being filled with drugs and broken marriages is attributed to Priscilla, and whose fault is it that Benjamin, Lisa's son, went down the same path of drugs as she did? Priscilla has her share of the blame for not being a good mother, but Lisa chose the path she followed. Not everyone who has a difficult life gives in to addictions and adventures.

You really should look into the UK version of the book. Lisa's sexual abuse by Cilla's boyfriend was left out. Even complete sentences were changed. It is a disgrace that apparently 'someone' pulled some strings and made sure the truth didn't come out. So people don't order the UK version, buy the US version or listen to the audiobook.

Great book but and very creatively put together it only focuses on a couple of significant events on Lisa’s life. There is no mention of Scientology and her dramatic exit, her mother marrying macro garibaldi and her complex relation with her brother Navarone. If you didn’t know any better you wouldn’t even know she had one. Not exactly a memoir. No mention about her filing for bankruptcy and the impact it had in her due to people mishandling EPE including her mother. Barely anything on her 10 years with Michael Lockwood or any details about the twins. I feel that either Lisa never finished it or Riley had decided to omit a lot of it. What was in the book was amazing but more needs to be discussed about what wasn’t in the book

Il libro è bellissimo, molto profondo e commovente. I was never a fan of Lisa Marie Presley or her music. She never appeared at the post Elvis Concerts (outside of the U.S.A.) which Priscilla and members of the Memphis Mafia did. She must have known that Elvis Fans would have liked to have seen her. Further, in my opinion, she should have concentrated on country music like Taylor Swift but instead sang rock type songs. I am a huge Elvis Fan but will not be buying this book.

Thanks.Unfortunately it isn't a happy story. So sad that Lisa Marie wanted be a good person, a good mother and a good wife, but didn't feel good within her own skin. I understand that people in EAP Society are mostly interested in Elvis. Without doubt he IS The King of rock'n' roll (and many other genres...), but for some reason I read first about Lisa Marie's marriage to Michael Jackson. I don't buy that MJ faked his health problems in 1995, because he didn't want to do the TV special. He was unconscious and the whole crew witnessed it. So many new dance moves were created, one of his idols, Marcel Marceau, was there ready to share the stage with him etc. But now I will read about Lisa Marie's childhood and her relationship with Elvis.

With all due respect, I seriously doubt what this book will reveal could be categorised as a "Nuclear Bomb". Lisa said a great deal in many interviews she gave during her lifetime. Especially about the difficult relationship she had with her mother. I think many hard-core Elvis fans who don't like priscilla are expecting a real "dish the dirt" biography on Mommy Dearest. I will be very surprised if there is anything in the book, we don't already know.

I have wondered the same thing, but when I started thinking about my own childhood (and I didn't have a world famous father!) I did remember quite a lot, and started writing it down a few years ago (I am now 76). The more I recalled, the more memories came to mind, so I guess with a remarkable childhood, a lot would stick. It is Lisa's interpretation that concerned me when I read that she said she hated the Memphis mafia guys. No kid under 10 could possibly understand the relationship her father had with those guys who he relied on for support throughout his adult life. I am curious to see what she says in this book.

@thomaspetersen9991 I lost my little brother when I was 4 and a 1/2 years and I remember him.
A former live-in boyfriend of Priscilla, Michael Edwards who moved in a few months after Elvis's death, stated in his book, Priscilla Elvis and Me how he became sexually attracted to Lisa at age 13 years. One night he went to Lisa's bedroom and lifted the corner of her blanket and stared at her. The following morning Priscilla was cold towards him in the kitchen as Lisa had told her what had happened the previous night. Even though he had repeated that Priscilla still allowed him to live with them for more than 2 years. Lisa said in interviews including David Letterman, how he would come drunk at night to her room and be inappropriate. In an interview about Where No One Stands Alone Lisa said that she was never protected since age of 9. Elvis died when she was 9.
Her book is about her life which includes her father who she knew adored her, her teens, marriages, etc. Priscilla's 2 books are just about her and Elvis excluding all the live-in boyfriends she had after Elvis.
Your perfect mother and woman, Priscilla lived 7 years with this monster, had many other live-in boyfriends including Marco Garibaldi with whom she has a son and lived 22 years with him(longer than with Elvis) In an interview with Barbara Walters she stated that he treated her beter than what Elvis had done. Now suddenly Elvis is the love of her life and she demanded to be buried at Graceland. Oh yes. What a role model as a mother and an ex wife.
