Oh gawds. I have an ID story.
I was shopping with my kids (then 10, 8 and 2 months) at Poundland when i was ID'd for a film in the shopping basket. I usually laugh this off because I get this a lot and it honestly doesn't bother me. What bothered me this time was when I jokingly said how I should probably dress my age to the kids and the cashier (older gentleman) said at the top of his voice
'Yes, well GIRLS are having kids as young as TWELVE these days'
    in the most snarkiest tone.
I was shocked. The cashier next to him was shocked. The other customers had gone quiet.
    I was about to just
ignore his comment and just carry on with my day, but my eldest did NOT let it go.
'Well, if my Mum's 12 then she must have had me when she was 2'
He promptly went purple and the cashier next to us started laughing which prompted the customers to laugh.
As we finished up and leaving I said
'I think you guys deserve an icecream for making my day'
According to my younger sister (who worked there but missed the incident as it was her day off), the bloke had to start a customer service course but years later is still a grouch at the till.
    😂

I'm 74, I have white hair, a white beard, and a bad back that has me walking hunched over. And when I'm carded, I may be annoyed, or amused, but I show the ID, because I know it's because of policy, and the employee has no choice, so why give them a hard time?

There are a few store clerks that know I’m older than dirt.
They get a kick out of it when they ask me for a birthday, and I pop them a date that is around my age, but it’s a notable date in history.
Some get it, and they look forward to the little history lesson!

Story 1; if showing ID to buy any alcohol is store policy and an employee ignores it, the store can fire the employee, so that is not worth losing their job. But if it is state law, the store may lose their liquor license and the employee may also be fired.

I worked in Europe for many years. In the larger cities, hotel parking was scarce. Often times, we would use overnight street parking. Since we left for work around 530 am, our 9 passenger vans would be blocked, front and back, by compact cars. They would literally be backed against our vans, making it impossible to move more than a few inches in either direction. It became routine for the crew to drag one end of the offending cars onto the sidewalk or street. It would've been much more fun if we had a Jeep like OP.

That one about the parking space brought back a memory of petty revenge i took on an entitled man back in the 80's. I worked for a company that did commercial services like construction, paving, snow plowing and things like that. One winter night we were at a shopping center for snow plowing but we always had to wait until after midnight so the lot would be empty and the store owners were fully aware of being out the lot by that time. On this particular night, the owner of one of the stores was working late so we informed him that he needs to move his car to another part of the lot that we already cleared. He became enraged that we wanted him to move and said that he WAS NOT moving his car and we would have to wait. My boss said okay and we left. We then proceeded to bury his car under a snow pile 15 feet tall and 30 feet around because my boss went back to company yard which was right down the street and drove his front end loader back so we could pile it as high as we could. A couple days later my boss got a call from the property manager asking what happened. My boss explained it to him and he started laughing and said serves him right for not following the rules and he said it took hours for the guy and a friend/employee? to dig out enough space to get the car moved from that spot.

If you put the tow hook on a honda accord or civic bumper you definitely did some damage. I'm surprised it didn't rip the bumper off. So what happened with the HOA? Depending how much the court costs and damages were, it could bankrupt the HOA. At the very least the HOA board should have been held responsible and replaced. Definitely should go after mom for the money she stole.

From the flow of the story, I'd guess that the whole thing was fiction. That's usually the case when you get no details of what actually happened in court. Also, forging documents is a felony/criminal offense, so it wouldn't be a matter of private litigation, which is another dumb mistake made by the writer.

People complaining about being ID'd are so annoying. Used to work overnight at a local gas station in a place where it is state law, not company policy but LAW, to ID every single person trying to by alcohol, no matter what. Regulars, clearly old people, your own grandma, doesn't matter.
Had a clearly older guy, white beard and bald try to buy a 12 pack, and cussed me out when I asked for ID, trying to use "They don't ID me in Wisconsin!!!".
"This isn't Wisconsin. State law requires everyone show ID to purchase alcohol."

Now before anyone goes ahead and says “oh, you just carded him because you’re racist “
That is not the case it was, because in our training modules for the store, we are told that a valid ID had to be from the states we couldn’t except IDs that were from out of the country and this customer had a Mexican ID.
Needless to say, he was upset, he said that he was always able to buy alcohol from our store. He left with his other, and went to the manager, which he told him exactly what transpired.
My manager said that because I carded him, we could not sell him the alcohol because he had a ID at we could not accept, and that was the end of it.

On this side of the world, if someone doesn't show ID when it's required, they'll be politely but firmly told that the shop can't sell (whatever) to them and the offending item will be placed to one side to be returned to stock. Shop staff don't enter into any arguments about the relative merits (or lack thereof) of requiring ID. If the customer won't leave, they risk having the police called to remove them, along with a lengthy ban from entering that shop again.

Nyaaa.. that first story resonates with me. I carry my wallet in my vehicle, but sometimes leave it there, as I carry my money in my pocket. I'm old and bald, white beard, not a question that I'm TRIPLE the legal age to drink. I once stopped for a burger in TN, then decided to walk to a nearby liquor store. They told me it was a state law to provide ID. I protested that my MOTORCYCLE (purchased new) was old enough to buy beer. No dice, had to walk a couple blocks BACK to my bike, then back to the liquor store, then back to the bike again. Pain in the butt. But what it says, is- America is becoming dumber. We now can't trust clerks to use their brains, so change is calculated, and (as the liquor store clerk told me) if the clerks own MOTHER came in- he would be forced to card her! Yep, try and find the logic in that! Oh, well, just one more step on the road to becoming docile sheep and useful idiots...

First story: We can see the stupidity from both sides. In the past (even 80s and 90s) people were not "carded" if they were obviously over 21. There is nothing wrong with that. Companies put the "we card everyone" policies just because they don't wish to take any chances. The customer forgot the store is private property and they dont have to sell it to you if they dont want to. The store policy is also stupid for just putting in a blanket policy.

But it's massively illegal and if discovered would get the store and the OP both massively fined and OP fired. Not worth the risk. That's why the penalties are so steep.

Parking lot. All OP did was prove that they are as big of an ahole as the two fighting over the spot. He should never have confronted them. He and gf should've left arm in arm to go elsewhere so neither one of them could have gotten either of their spots. That most likely would've ticked them off even more and OP wouldn't have committed an illegal act. He could've taken the high road but chose instead to lower himself to their level. Not a win for him.

When I was 16 years old I worked at a full service gas station after school, back then selling beer, or cigarettes to anyone required ID. I had a dude that went off about not having ID on him, I just told him to go get it, he was angry but he left. I used that moment to call the local cop to report him. Sure enough the cop caught him at another store trying to buy beer without ID. This is one of my favorite things about living in a small town, cops know the troublemakers, and how they think.

@@frederickandrea4132 There is no constitutional right to buy alcohol. You don't have to show them an ID. You can try elsewhere. And it stops the questionables or underagers from harassing the staff. One rule for everyone who buys alcohol. Same for age restricted concerts. Whiney snowflakes who "FORGOT IT IN MY CAR" can either go get it or get out. And if you are driving you aARE required to have your drivers license with you.

@@aleleeinnaleleeinn9110 you are missing the point about common sense, I have no problem with ID-ing people you suspect are underage or close to it, especially women who can look much older or younger with makeup and clothes. But the forty-five year old man or woman with gray hair or bald does not need to be ID'd to by liquor because a computer says to "check ID" common sense should rule in these situations.

@@frederickandrea4132 It is about accountability. The workers have to deal with the fallout. And the merchant has to deal with their errors in judgment. "Hey man, why are you
carding me. You didn't card him. You calling me a liar." ad nauseam. The staff can be legal age to sell liquor or a meek old woman. The 2nd story is funny because OP wanted to drop by and run his mouth after his involvement was over, and then was surprised when buddy wanted to throw hands. And of course he dropped the "Its not worth it" line. Then keep your mouth shut and drive away. Im not saying the 2 idiots having a pissing match over a parking space were right or wrong.
