  • This trip was well planned out. Lol, that plan went out the window when my buddy Joel wasn't catching fish. We were improvising, then my buddy didn't feel well and went home (he spent 6 hours in the emergency room but I'm glad to report that he's okay now) It was just me and the dogs Ash & Juni. Being all new country for me, I was exploring around a bit, which almost got me into trouble. I found myself rock-crawling my Toyota Tundra on a remote trail that I wasn't sure I could get through. Luckily everything worked out. I ended up backpacking my camping gear into the lake where I spent the night tarp camping and caught some nice fish. I caught and released two beautiful Arctic Grayling, two Rainbows and two Brooke Trout, one of which I kept for dinner cooking my traditional trout and potatoes dinner on the Firebox Stove. All this improvising caught up to me at the end of the trip when I found myself in the wilderness with all my camping gear and my packable folding Kayak, Too much to comfortably pack out so rather than make two trips I manned up and worked myself like a rented mule carrying the heaviest backpack of my life. In the end, it really wasn't that hard and gave me a great work out getting me in shape for the rest of this backpacking season :) Good Times!
I'm an inventor who loves this outdoor adventure lifestyle! I make premium gear that works, holds up well and is fun to use. I've tried it all through my 40 or so years of camping experience and wanted to do it better. Please check out my website where you can see my gear. We also have a camping food cook book where you can find out how I make the meals you see in my video's. Other recipes and camp cooking hacks are also submitted by the good folks from the Firebox community. Thanks everyone!

That's true. A lot of YT hosts do that here. Setup the camera then walk or drive by, then have to double back to retrieve the camera. They cover the same steps several times just for one shot. I call that devotion to their viewers. 😎😁. It takes a lot of time and effort on their parts. 😎😁

I have a question..request..i know we have all watched you a million times and I'm probably the only person that can't do it but could you please in one of your fishing videos PLEASE do a slow tutorial on how you remove the bones!! You make it look so easy. I tried and was stabbed in the mouth by small bones I didn't get. Ok..it wasn't a trout..we don't have them here except at grocery. But a fish is a fish I guess...so your method should work. I don't eat alot of fresh fish because I was never properly taught to remove bones. I LOVE FISH. Thank you. I know it's kinda a dumb request.

Looks like my pack. My family likes the outdoors, but in no means, love it. I often have to carry alot of extra glamping gears, food, and snacks for them to enjoy a natural beauty of a hike. Last year we've invited other families to join us, half way thru, we were starting to lose people. I planned the trip so i had to go make sure everybody was ok, my bil who was behind me asked to carry my bag to they can slowly keep going. I took off my pack, handed to him, it immediately dropped to the ground. He exclaimed, "what the heck do you have in here? Second thought, we'll just take a break til you get back." It's so hard to bring family and friends to go with you who can go the distance and understand that weather isnt always what it appears to be. So glad you're able to pack and go where ever you please. Keep it up.

If you google homemade tea bags, you can buy a cheap bundle of reusable bags for your coffee instead of taking all that coffee making equipment with you. Just a suggestion so don't bite my head off.
Another suggestion is, your little dog is really feeling the cold and snuggling as close as possible to the old dog, it's not just friendship. Buy the little one it's own jacket.
Great video, greetings from Sydney Australia.

Love your videos. This one showed some of the trials, which is good.
I think I've watched most of them.
How did you keep the steak cold? Where do you keep the food overnight? Hanging?
Many like the dogs, and I do too, but I think your son is the star of the shows. I love those!

Thank you Ann, I think Luke is taking over the channel with his charm👍 those are my favorite parts too! I bring my meat Frozen packed in the center of my pack where it stays the coolest. yes. I hang my food away from camp overnight as to not draw in the bears 👍

Was that you climbin trees? Awesome! Still trying to figure out how to camp up in the trees. This was amazing footage my friend. The scenery and horsepackers etc reminded me of doing seasonal trailwork for the forest service in the Gila. 92 93 and 95 summers. I was going to forestry school at the time in humboldt. We’d pack 4 mules with all our campin gear and their food our food etc for 8 days. It was an experience I’ll never forget. Thanks so much Steve! That’s incredible you hiked the ss firebox outta the woods!!

    Just a thought,
You might have your "fireboxstove.com" stamped on the tarps, flags, or tent or hammocks, so when riders come by they will be informed with that information.. i know you have it on your truck,, but remember hickers, riders and compensation are the people who would buy your stuff. You have quality camping gear.

Another beauty and relaxing video, Thanks for sharing. I have noticed that you are taken some extra care for the big dog, is he an old one or just spoiled? I cannot imagine life without a dog. Cheers from Tasmania.
