Interesting idea but it feels like the plot of the original 1911 novel by Gaston Leroux is missing.
In the original novel, the management of the Paris Opera House knew of the Phantom’s existence.
To keep him satisfied, they paid him a monthly salary and always reserved box #5 as his personal box
But when a new management took over, they didn’t believe in the ghost story so they cut off the Phantom’s salary and sold the seats in box #5.
It was only a matter of time before the Phantom would seek his revenge.
You got right the part where Christine learns from the Phantom but you left out another major player.
That being, Raoul vicomte de Chagny.
He is also in love with Christine but she tells him that they shouldn’t see each other since her voice teacher is also The Phantom.
She’s afraid for his life but he asks her to become his wife.
Thereby putting his life as the Phantom’s next target.
During a performance one night, Christine falls through a trap door and Raoul goes after her.
Raoul meets the masked Phantom in the Paris Opera House sewers.
He asks the Phantom to release Christine but instead, Raoul is captured.
The Phantom declares that Christine is his and that Raoul will die after gazing upon the true face of The Phantom of the Opera.
The Phantom reveals that he had been causing sabotage upon the Opera House because the new management at the Paris Opera House sold his box seats and wouldn’t pay him his monthly salary so he could keep writing his operas.
His face is disfigured because that’s how he was born.
Christine shows compassion and as soon as they hear the people of the Opera House coming for him, he releases Raoul.

I agree. This is definitely a messed up idea. The phantom is a demented person with severe mental illness that manipulates people and murders them! Definitely not a hero. The story is focused on Christine and her post trauma coping with her father's death which the phantom uses to manipulate her into thinking he is the angel of music to fulfill his demented fantasy. The good guy, Raoul, is basically shunned by Christine who has sympathy for Erik. In the end that sympathy drives the phantom away and we are left with dead people and sadness.... yikes! I don't see how we can clean that up and not completely change the story.

I agree we should focus on the book version more, but if its interests anyone of you, someone is doing a more accurate version on Phantom of the Opera and let me tell you, there are some things I never knew that makes the tale more fascinating! So if Disney would make this, they better make sure it is very well done, or they will be some very high criticism. It is a beloved tale that most of the world enjoys. Its a lot of pressure for this one. Also two mistakes some forget to add IS THE PERSIAN, also his mask covered his entire face. (Not to offend anyone, but telling my personal opinion)

Exactly. I feel like the creator's video is the same as any other wattpad fanfic that favours Erik for Christine over Raoul and takes away the main aspects of Erik's personality. It could be the PERFECT opportunity, as a Disney movie, that would show kids that it doesn't matter how you look like, it only matters how you behave and treat others. They could see the growth in Erik.

I love the art, and I love the idea of it being of Disney animated film, however, I cannot get behind the plot changes. Not only would Disney get pushback for changing the story to be so similar to Beauty and the Beast, the story is wonderful the way it is and would make a great animated film regardless. The Phantom is the villain of the story for a reason, to illustrate love vs obsession. Raoul honestly loves Christine and wants what's best for her, not himself, and risks his life to save her, creating a contrast to Erik who only wants to possess her with no thought to her own wishes. Christine sees past Erik's monstrous appearance, that is not what terrifies her about him, it's that he's a possessive murderer. Her compassion is ultimately what softens him, and saves her and Raoul's lives, and I think that's such a beautiful message that would translate wonderfully to a Disney animated musical

    • @The-Musical-Lover
      @The-Musical-Lover Месяц назад +2

My thoughts exactly. It would be more interesting if they actually KEPT Erik's original personality, and had a moment like "it's in your soul where the true distortion lies" from Christine, that would make him actually slowly start to realise that he's the one in the wrong and that if he wants to get accepted, he needs to change his behaviour, and that it has nothing to do with his appearance. It would be even educational for kids this way. What this creator presents is basically another Wattpad-dy fanfic that goes "Erik good, Raoul (or in this case the character that stands in his place) bad". I don't want to be mean, but... yeah. For once, keep the stuff that makes the original so powerful.

He compared POTO to Hunchback and Beauty and the Beast, and then took away everything that made it distinctive from the other two stories. I feel it ended up just like a mashup between the other two than Phantom. Then again, I watched his other videos and had a feeling that a lot of his “original” ideas were way too similar to already existing Disney films… I don’t want to be mean hah.

Are you an r/c shipper? That's rare to find in this phandom. Anyways, I love the idea of her ending up with the phantom but this takes it a step to far. In the book, Raoul is a naive, obsessed, quiet, often-crying, young man who acts like a child, and is kinda pathetic. There's no way he'd ever be capable to disagree with Cristine, let alone be the villain in her story. It's as absurd as the managers saying Cristine killed mr. Bouquet. This may be a possible reason why: The Andrew Lloyd Webber musical is so popular, Disney may worry that their version may clash with the musical or be overshadowed by it. Anyway, thanks for sharing your ideas. I enjoyed the song. If Disney ever makes their own version of the story, I have different ideas for The Phantom of the Opera. I personally would want them to make the movie as mature and dark as the Hunchback of Notre Dame story, mostly for the reason that it would match the tone of the original book. I do not like this at all because it has one critical flaw: it completely misunderstands Erik's role in the story. Erik is not a tragic hero or even anti-hero. He isn't a romantic figure. He's the VILLAIN of the story. His relationship with Christine is a toxic relationship built on obsession and control. It isn't sweet, it isn't cute. It's simply not healthy. This version of the story is romanticizing the monster and therefore fundamentally compromises what this story is. The Phantom could be a great Disney villain, giving the likes of Gaston and Frollo a run for their money. But no, let's make him the misunderstood underdog because it makes us real life outcasts feel better. No. Use stories where the outcasts are actually good people for that. The Phantom of the Opera is supposed to be a story about how some people may deserve our pity, but that doesn't mean they've atoned for their evilness. The Phantom is an outcast who is legitimately not a good person. Stop trying to make him one.

He was an outcast from birth. His mother tried to end both their lives before he was even born when she found out she was pregnant with an illegitimate child by drinking acid. He was abused severly and put on display for his deformity caused by his mother's suicide attempt. He barely managed to survive. He had to teach himself to write, which is why his writing is so messy. He murdered his captor so he could be free. Katniss did the same, and no one calls her a villain. His whole life he had been abused, ostrisized, and driven away by people. He was forced to live under an opera house for crying out loud! And then, he actually found someone who didn't see him for just his deformity, she saw him as a person. Yeah, he may have been possessive, but his entire life he'd faced extreme hate. He was extremely scared she'd leave him to suffer in the hell his life was. He was never taught anything like love, how was he supposed to know he could've been with her without being extremely possessive? He was only shown hate, and yet people expect him to function like a regular human being? He's never remembered as the genius musician, magician, architect, and singer he was, he's remembered for his bad qualities (like the fact he murders people and causes major property damage) the hatred and prejudice and greed of others made him just as much as he made himself be the way he is, if not more. He was strong and coped in the only way he knew how. Everyone handles pain differently. Not to mention he probably has some form of PTSD. But nooo, let's all just focus on his love not being "healthy".

    • @chadlewis5379
      @chadlewis5379 16 дней назад

@@user-wp8gs8pz4j you actually just strengthened my case that he's the villain. You can't write off serial murder and property damage as "everyone handles trauma differently." Katniss is a hero because she never let her trauma compromise her morals. Erik did. Katniss was thrust into a situation she couldn't control and was forced to make life or death choices. Erik is a criminal and just a bad person. Simple as that. His backstory is indeed tragic, but it in no way justifies his actions and makes them right.

This was a great concept, and since there’s enough versions of the original story so you could reimagine Erik as more heroic and misunderstood than the original more villainous version.

    - The Hobbit (I think Black Caldron shows it could have worked with some tweaks!)
    - Odysseus (As something of a follow up to Hercules in a similar vein adapting his role in Iliad and Odyssey)

The original Phantom of the Opera novel by Gaston Leroux is in the public domain and so is the 1925 silent film adaptation of Leroux's novel. Therefore as long as we use original music like the beautiful song included in this video, we technically could make a Disney-style animated Phantom of the Opera film as long as we only use the original novel and the 1925 silent film as source material.
All we need is a budget, some filmmaking equipment, a couple of composers, and a cast and we're good to go.

This would be perfect. To finally have a story where Erik and Christine live Happily Ever After. Disney are probably the only company that could accomplish this because they have brought happy endings and brought light to stories that ordinally had darker tales or sad endings. And almost every single Phantom Of The Opera movie or play adaption has a sad ending. Erik dying or sacrificing himself Christine running off with Raoul or Erik sadly letting her go.

So as a huge Disney and Phantom of the Opera fan I can honestly say that I'm shocked I haven't thought of this myself then again I guess I didn't think about it because I don't think a storyline such as Phantom would work for a Disney film. Then again Hunchback of Notre Dame was in my opinion even darker then Phantom but if Disney were to do Phantom of the Opera for their next film I would say that this storyline is pretty good. As someone who loves Phantom of the Opera because of its Gothic Romance a side of me does want there to be a little bit more of that into this plot also for the character Raul to be the romantic interest like in the original plot. But then again we wouldn't want people to see the Phantom as the villain. I don't think Disney has ever had a villain / hero other than in the live-action Maleficent movie the song was great although I do wish there was a little bit more higher notes to showcase the character Christine being an opera singer. Then again I might be biased because I myself am an opera singer. Overall it is a good idea but I don't know if I trust "today's Disney" to do Phantom especially after seeing wish. I still am a huge fan of Disney but more of a fan of old Disney call me old fashioned and traditional but sometimes it's the old fashioned way that makes it work . Thanks for this video and for the idea it's definitely something to think on. And if Disney ever decides to do I can only pray that they do it justice.

Dear all Raoul&Cristine shippers and general haters of the phantom ghost out there,
In defense of Eric: He was an outcast from birth.

@@user-wp8gs8pz4j I’m not a phantom hater, even though I do ship Christine with Raoul. (Like, you know, it was intended in the original story and he was Christine’s actual choice). The main problem I have with this creator’s version is not even that Phantom ends up with Christine, it’s that it has basically nothing to do with the original story. It’s more like a mash-up between Beauty and the beast and Hunchback. He took everything that made POTO distinctive from these two and threw it out the window.
What this creator presents it’s more like a cutesy fanfic that could probably be successful on Wattpad for all the “Team Erik” people. But if you don’t like the real story of the Phantom, then don’t suggest a Disney animated movie. Erik is a powerful character, but for his character to show the power he has, they should actually SHOW his character and not “make him the good guy who’s just ugly”.
