Fitzee’s fabrication is a Canadian institution on RUclips! Like you, he’s an everyday kind of guy. No fancy shop or fancy tools accomplishing the same as higher end shops! Keep up the good work!
"Nothing fancy". Tony has helped so many of us get over trying to make complex repair panels and just make them out of multiple pieces. Dave has became a master of the cut and but really fast too.
Agree 100% about Fitzees fabrications. I’ve been a fan of his for years. I’m a great believer in his attitude, that the way it’s always done may not necessarily be the right way, but I lack his imagination, so I tend to get blinded by conventional methods. Coming on here and watching fellow “outside the box” people do things is both entertaining and informative. I believe we’re living in the last age of home restoration. Rules, regulations, health and safety are going to prohibit such activities without expensive licenses to practice and equally expensive public and internal liability insurance and the ever present environmental compliance will be ever more difficult too. I’m hoping these horrors will be fought at every stage, meaning I personally don’t live to see them fully enforced, but they’re coming. We need to enjoy these liberties, while we still have them!
Really good. This is the way I've done repairs having no formal training and only the basic tools. I do prefer gas MIG welding though. Although it's more difficult to do outside, especially on a windy day.
Great work mate. What's that someone says, Fitzee retiring?! Oh no. please no. Talking of Fitzee, I have just finished re-creating the radiator support panel on my BMW 840Ci. I have had to make it out of many small sections welded together and it has taken many many hours, but thanks to Fitzee, and yourself of course, I had the confidence to tackle it, and it has not turned out too bad. It is one of the most complex panels you can come across. Well done again Dave.
It's great to see someone else using gasless wire. I've used it for donkeys years , (because I weld a lot outside) and never had a problem. Remember to change the welder polarity and buy a good brand, I' was once given a part used roll of a no name brand and it didn't perform very well. I guess it's a case of "you get what you pay for". My current welder is a smartmig 162 and the lowest setting with 0.8 wire does a great weld on up to 1.5 mm steel . Not having to use the gas shroud is also a bones for getting in tight spots. Great videos Dave with good tips and info.
Dave if there was such a thing as a “ Technical University “ you would be one. So instructive and knowledgeable, thank you for demonstrating your skills to us so well! 👍👏
You're certainly not the only one to owe Tony Fitzpatrick a debt of gratitude. I would also recommend Yorkshire Car Restoration (there's some clowning about but also some excellent fabrication) and SJG custom - a DIY restorer working on a Vauxhall who admits that he's still learning but makes some really good repair sections and finishes them to a superb standard by patient grinding and sanding. Many thanks.
Of course the ultimate test is: Do the wipers still work or have you welded the drive arm to the scuttle?! Suspect they do... Well done, Fitzee is a must watch, but Dave is every bit as educational and enjoyable. Thanks for the video.
Great work Dave. I did mine in one piece😩😩...took me forever! It actually curves slightly in 2 directions. Also had 2 holes in rear one but had learned to do it in sections by then😂
I've seen some of your videos, and I'm wondering if you are using flux core welding, based on what I can see. I saw that same type of repair from Fitzee, but I think that with yours a shrinker/stretcher might have saved you some weld. Keep up the good work, ii's always nice to see the reborn of those beauties from our childhood.
Lots of youtube welders who don't recommend the gasless welding for the type of repairs you are doing. What made you go with it Dave? I am asking from my novice welder self who has to mig an imp. Will be buying some thicker steel myself to stop me blowing holes. Have you tried 0.6 mig wire on your repairs ? If so what were the results like ?
Hi Gareth, I've given the gasless a go because a subscriber who works in a bodyshop swears by it, and so far so good. I haven't tried 0.6mm gasless, but I do find 0.6mm normal wire a lot easier than 0.8mm
Seem to be getting on really well with the gasless wire Dave. I tried it years ago and had loads of bother with it, that said I was using a cheap toy of a gasless only welder, your machine is a cracking bit of kit for the price.
Dave, just looking at those welds. When you embraced fluxless did you reverse the polarity on your welder ? - clamp positive, gun negative. There's quite a bit on RUclips about it, how it transforms the quality of the welds. It's easily done on the machine, just a couple of nuts and flip the cables. ruclips.net/video/vVSBzRXWt10/видео.html
Ahh, so many disciples of Fitz! Such an inspiration. Great work again Dave, keep going. 👏

You can notice the transformation from all the rust to fixing it and bringing the Opel Manta back to it*s glory .
Superb work i always liked the Opel manta,s .

Sadly, I think you're right, health & safety regulations have gotten out of hand.
great work again dave

Thankyou Bob, someone else has commented that Fitzee is not retiring, it's a stunt to sell hats 😉

Made a neat repair on this section Dave. It certainly cleaned up well but I think I still prefer the gas option.
Super repair Dave , you make it look easy mate 👍
I have one of them I've been thinking about parting it out😊
Прекрасная машина ,я в 90-е на такой с мотором 1.6 катался и только прекрасные воспоминания, слабое место распредвал стирался ,не хватало смазки.

Thanks Pal, I'll try the wipers 🤣🤣
Always difficult repairs in areas like this where the metal has been stretched so much to form all the different curves it's very thin
Evening Dave. It just shows how you can a,ways learn from others then perfect it yourself 👍🏻Nice looking burgers 😋
Thank Stevie
Nice work Dave.👍😎
Fantastic work Dave. 👍
Nice🎉
Great skills again Dave fantastic work to form that quite complicated piece. Amazing what we learn all the time
Thanks Mick 👍
Nice job Dave going to get hell of a T-shirt tan the same time lol 👍
I do have a super tee shirt tan 🤣🤣

Fluxcore is letting you getting into corners effortlessly, like welding with a .8mm drafting pencil!
Nicely done.

Hi Jorge, yep, gasless wire, trying it out, seems to work pretty well.
@@DavesGarageuk I used it on a floor but, I'm not yet brave enough for visible panels, but you inspired me 🙂
Top stuff Dave got some gasless wire coming , giving it a go.
Let us know how you get on with it

At least fitzee doesn’t use stupid music in his work, refreshing not having to reach for the volume each time.
Hi, um, I guess I'll lower the music volume?
@@DavesGarageuk It's your channel Dave but silence is golden in my book!

I do think it's the welder, like you I tried gasless years ago and found it terrible.
Hi Dave, would it be possible to share fritz channel in the comments.
Certainly youtube.com/@fitzeesfabrications
Nice
Did i hear you say that you're using gasless wire?
Yep, so far I'm finding it OK
👍👏👏👏

Yep, polarity swapped, I must remember to swap it back when I use gas again 🤣
First 😊
🤣
Well done Dave, but Fitzee has just announced he is retiring.
Watch the video again, you'll find he was promoting his hat merchandise (hang up your hat)
@@brianclaridge7695 Too much thinking for me at this time of night.
Phew 😊
@@DavesGarageuk I agree, total relief.
Nice job Dave 👌👍
