I think it would be really clever if as macaque and wukong were slowly making up, mei and MK slowly fall out. And by the time macaque and wukong have made up, mei and MK won’t be friends, because we can already see in season 5 MK is pushing mei away. It would be very symbolic 😭

I had this little theory at the back of my mind for awhile now so I wanted to share my two cents!
With Chaos in mind, and you bringing up MK getting all cocky about it. It makes me think of Macaque getting all cocky again with his newly found power - In JTTW, Macaque was killed due to disguising himself as Wukong. In LMK, we had some tidbits of said fight. Wukong had yelled at Macaque and said "don't make me do this," while Macaque sounded like he was in a powertrip.
Makes me think if the Chaos in some way will make Macaque have one of those powertrips again, potentially pushing Wukong to great lengths like potentially killing him again. But due to past mistakes, Wukong actively strays away from that idea and tries to do better - seemingly having to face his guilt and past mistakes head on. Especially with MK now in the picture, it would be interesting to see Wukong face conflict within himself and find other solutions rather than running off, which is something Macaque fought with him about. Macaque or MK even gaining a powertrip will just give Wukong a flood of memories and reminders of his past mistakes - forcefully having to face them.

24:07 I NEEEED TO ADD one of the best things about the way lmk is animated is that they have a lot of show don't tell plot devices in order to get across information they don't have time to explain, I feel like we do get a hint of Macaques death in a couple of ways, chain motifs are really common with his character- the ink depiction, lbd keeping him in check, flash backs of broken chains, and after seeing how Wukong chained mk down we begin to see how it was Wukong might of killed him. On top of that episode 2 does this really clever thing where when Mac sacrifices himself, mk is quick to reason that he's fine and he'll get away because "he always gets away right?" and WE GET THAT SHOT OF WUKONGS EXPRESSION AS HE SILENTLY LOOKS AT MK BECAUSE HE KNOWS FIRST HAND THAT NO MACAQUE DOESN'T ALWAYS GET AWAY anyway I still think Macaque cheating death is gonna have hella consequences and I can not WAIT

  • @AngryisApanda
    @AngryisApanda 2 месяца назад +32

Didn't wukong say "macaque don't make me do this " in the flashback, I think mac was probably the aggressor in their fight, otherwise he would have brought it up at any point when he was trying to make others wary of wukong (hay he also killed me btw) but he doesn't really talk about it
They both seem to have a (in my heart I know it was half my fault but I'm still angry at you) thing going on but idk wish these monkeys would stop teasing us about their relationship drama and just talk already

HELLO!!!!! resident jttw connoisseur and active member of the fandom here
im gonna give jttw info and my comments on some of these theories here and then my own theories separately, hopefully chronological but we will see
1- macaque is in one chapter of jttw, in which he punches tripitaka, steals the gang's stuff, and has a massive battle with wukong that stretches from the underworld to ffm to heaven to the thunderclap monistary (where buddha is) all while disguised as wukong. HOWEVER. while it is not in jttw that they knew each other, several adaptations allude to it or have plots circling around it. monkey king (2009) has a plot entirely themed around "wukong's backstory but what if macaque was his sworn brother) and does fantastic doing it. nezha reborn also has bits of this, but i wont spoil it bc its one of the major twists of the movie.
all that being said, in the original macaque's powers mainly revolve around omniscience. his ears pick up every sound in the universe and he understands it in any form. he does not have any shadow-y portal stuff, instead otherwise having the exact strength and abilities as sun wukong!
macaque's character is one that has been changed in many adaptations of him, so i wouldn't be surprised if there's this whole grand source for his power! his personality and character as well as his abilities are largely original to lego monkie kid
last thing regarding that!!! while jttw is a whooooole thing to get into (it took me a year and 100$ to buy and read the books) overly simplified productions has a great series on it that so far has 11 episodes! it covers almost everything in monkie kid thats referenced from jttw (wukong's backstory, the journey, dbk and pif, red son (red boy in the book), macaque, jin and yin, the......the mpreg chapter.....) and i can link it for you if you like :3 it probably takes 1-2 hours to get through it all
2 - the last season thing stems from rumors that there will not be a full lego drop in 2025, at least not to the full extent that we've had in years past. they're not confirmed by anyone. there's something to be said about it though, and i wouldn't be too surprised if it was because of the shift in s5/the shrinking of the fandom. im hoping it isn't tho obviously
3 - the mk & mei and swk & macaque parallels have had the fandom in a chokehold since the start.... from the teen and below side of ao3 there's so much about that. this is a common theory amongst the fandom and im all here for it. there are theories dating back to pre s4 that say mei would sustain a similar injury that mac did with his eye, they get in a really serious physical fight, etc.
4 - the circlet tightening when he makes mistakes isn't quiiite accurate? it was a punishment used by tripitaka whenever he goes on massacres. it was used to restrain him then through excruciating pain, and used by li jing and mk both to incapacitate him.
5 - the spirit monkey thing is flippin wild. ive seen theories talking about the other monkeys (there are four in total, wukong, macaque, the long armed gibbon, and the red buttocked baboon) but i don't think they'll be a major part of the show because they're never actually characters in jttw. they were brought up to explain macaque's origins, but little information was given about them aside from their abilities
the crossing the name out thing is interesting too!!! but jttw has plot holes about that form of immortality.
after wukong is imprisoned, erlang shen (one of the celestial warriors and devarajas) went on a rampage, setting ffm on fire and killing most of the monkeys on the mountain. wukong finds out and appropriately is inconsolable
also, in the macaque chapter, sandy ends up killing one of the monkeys? macaque disguises some ffm monkies as the pilgrims and sandy becomes enraged seeing his and kills the monkey. so the monkeys, while immortal, can be killed
with this logic maybe tampering with the book of the dead is only ageless immortality? since the ffm monkeys can be killed (the 2023 monkey king movie had this take)
(also, i would absolutely love a deltarune vid and any stickers/keychains you end up making. i do not have any social medias other than yt anymore but ill keep an eye on etsy :3)

Other resident JTTW connoisseur that has more info on Macaque!
It’s actually not an out-there theory that he’s had past ties to Wukong. Many articles I’ve read that analyze the text suggest that the Spirit Macaque King, Great Sage of Informing Winds, one of Wukong’s sworn brothers, *was* the Six-Eared Macaque. It’s a fairly accepted reading of the text at this point. It’s also a common theme that the Macaque is a “dark reflection” of Wukong (I once found an article literally describing him as Monkey’s “shadow”) which may have inspired his shadow abilities in the LEGO series.

@@LoverOfStuff I may not be a JTTW connoisseur but from what I've heard from a RUclips video, check the facts yourself 'cause I'm not completely sure, that since it's a very popular theory that Wukong and Macaque are sworn brothers or related in any sense, the Chinese see them as such. Is that true? Because here in the west, people are shipping them so it's hard for me to find someone who interprets their relationship as siblings or sworn brothers. Not that I hate Shadowpeach, but I'm getting tired of that ship flooding my social media and want ANYONE to see them as siblings because I have no "gaydar" and see them as siblings/sworn brothers

On another note, I believe that the seasons are in a 3-season arc type thing.
S1-S3: The LBD/bone demon arc? (As I call it, she was kinda there in season 1, just as a topic? Notice how season 3 was sort of like an ending, yet not exactly. Leaving room open for a “new adventure”)
S4-6: The chaos arc (So I’m going to assume this arc ends on season 6, and after that, it depends whether or not there will be another season.)

    MY THEORIES!
1 - i think frame by frame animation is coming back. wild brain resorted to puppets because of a time crunch! im hoping that they have more time now that the switch was announced. id happily wait another year, year and a half for a frame by frame season (happily isn't the right word but you know what i mean)
2 - this is not the last we see of xiangliu
3 - the antagonist that xiangliu was alluding to will have one on one interactions with mk and manipulate him similarly to how xiangliu does. not a pure villain like lbd was, but maybe more directly antagonistic as someone like asure. i think mk will be seen as a potential threat or friend to whatever chaos manifests in s6, warranting more of mk making "choices" and manipulation on the antagonist's part.
4 - more info on tripitaka's treatment of wukong and wukong's trauma from the journey. i think lmk is depicting tripitaka as someone like
ok idk how else to discribe it but there's someone writing a conventionally bad character that they like and you're also supposed to like and then there's writing a good character that people dislike
i thinkk that tripitaka in the book is a hero that people don't like. but lmk takes a different approach to write him as a more unlikable character. all of the screencaps of wukong kneeling at his feet or in immense pain with the circlet..... sure seems like some trauma
along those lines i think mac's trauma deals with the journey as well. something both have to unpack eventually
5 - macaque being presented with consequences by the 10 kings for being brought back from the dead and breaking the laws of life and death.
i had more theories but i think the vid covered the rest :3

My theory for season 6 is that MK gets corrupted/possessed by the chaos, causing him to become what he didn't want to be: A villain. Of course, despite Monkey King supposedly not being scared to fight most villains, he wouldn't want to hurt MK, same for his friends/family. Which, most likely, would lead to Macaque squaring off against MK. Plus, Macaque's powers are now partially chaotic, and the chaos (when he absorbed it from the 9-headed demon) seemed to hurt him. So, maybe Macaque will sacrifice himself to stop MK from destroying the world, or stopping the next villain from doing so. (In the second-to-last episode of season 5, he told MK he didn't always have to sacrifice himself. Also, he noticed something was off with the staff?? So perhaps, due to all the stress building up, MK will be possessed by the chaos inside of the staff.)
So perhaps Macaque will be the sacrifice to stop the next villain in season 6?? And maybe the season following, they'd have to find a way to bring him back to life? (He's sacrificed himself at least 2 times, once to save Wukong, and another to try and stop MK from sacrificing himself.)
Or, it could be the other way around: Macaque becomes possessed/corrupted by the chaos, and the others need to find a way to save him from it. This may lead to MK squaring off against Macaque, and trying to bring him back to his senses.
Also, I apologize if these theories make no sense.

    • @Dove-u2y

Love how you're main ask is a Sun Wukong Apology Tour.
Season 3 he got blew up and posessed and yelled at by Mei.
Season 4 he got trapped in a purgatory hell scroll forced to relive all his worst memories on loop.
Season 5 he was forced to relive the trauma of getting trained like a dog on a shock collar AND relive his horrible memories part 2 and tries to sacrifice himself for everyone. And Macaque flat out told him he had to "do better."
He doesn't need to be yelled at. The universe LOVES to punish him. And its not like Macaque is Bbygurl but his hands ain't clean.
Literal lines we saw in the flashback are "Macaque STOP! Don't make me do this!" Wukong killed him in the book for a handful of reason. It was exesive force but the flashback had Macaque evilly laughing. So i don't think it was for fun.

In JTTW Macaque’s role is super minute- as many people have already commented, he impersonates Wukong and gets himself killed. (There’s actually some debate as to whether or not the Six Eared Macaque killed Wukong instead and took his place for the rest of the journey- that’s not the case in Monkie Kid, but it’s always been something that interested me!)
Idk if anyone else has noticed, but Wukong WASNT on the journey when he killed Macaque in Monkie Kid. In the scene in s3 where LBD confronts Macaque and we get that flashback, Wukong is in his battle armor (if I’m not mistaken, the same outfit he uses when he battles LBD) and not in his JTTW clothes, and he also doesn’t have the golden circlet/fillet on.
So, when DID Wukong kill Macaque?? Moreover, WHY?? I don’t think Macaque impersonated Wukong in Monkie Kid- there hasn’t been anything to really suggest it outside of Macaque acting friendly with MK in s1 ep9 only to switch up very quickly.
That flashback scene has been nagging at me since my latest rewatch of the show, and it only makes me more intrigued as to how Monkie Kid is going to handle Macaque’s death. It’s probably going to be super angsty no matter what route they take though lmao

Here’s my theory (just because I’m trying to comfort myself into thinking macaque won’t die next season.) ive gone off the other theories, (chaos theory, DEF gonna be in next arc, Macaque backstory? Most likely.) and if it is mostly about macaque’s backstory i dont think Macaque should die in the season just because in season five he sacrificed himself for wukong and mk and Mk is even wondering if he was murdered, so I don’t think he would die after getting his death teased for the 4-5 episodes that he wasn’t there. And also i dont think he would die because if we got more macaque, it would mostly be about his backstory and NOT the present. About the chaos theory, I want Mk to be overcome by the chaos, and becoming his monkey form (chaos form) for the season while everyone else tries helping, Although he should become his monkey form a little later in the series, so we get a little more lore on why he became his monkey form, (turning into his chaos form on episode 4-6. Theres my theory, hope it wasn’t too confusing!! ❤

I kind of think that there is a possibility that MK could do the same thing wukong did to macaque
What I mean is hurting his friend with an eye scar now of course MK isn’t his mentor he’s not gonna kill them not stabbing through eye but I think there is a possibility that one of his friends probably Mei will get an eye scar
Or judging by some hints of foreshadowing in the earlier seasons MK himself could get an eye scar Due to one of his friends having to stop him from going crazy with his powers
If this second scenario happened, it would give him and macaque more of a connection physically instead of just being a connection with sun wukong

The cycle was created to protect against the chaos right? It seems 9 demon remembers all the cycles despite the fact memories aren’t supposed to carry over so it’s possible that chaos DOES carry over and if that’s the case then Mac having made a deal in a previous cycle and those chaos powers carrying over regardless of if he remembers it would make some sense.

    Okay my thoughts:
    1. Love the WuKong bashing, I have NEVER been able to get myself to like that guy I kept thinking he was secretly evil literally the entire time.
    2. I got a copy of the Journey to the West so if I ever read anything crazy I will get back to youuuu.
    3. I have THOUGHTS about the title “harbinger of chaos” because it feels very strange for the role that MK was supposed to play. He was supposedly supposed to be a sacrifice for the sake of preserving the cycle, aka order, so why is his title essentially along the lines of “the one that foreshadows chaos” “the one that announces the approach of chaos” like there’s an interpretation that MK waking up means that the cycle is about to end, and in that way he announces chaos, but that doesn’t really make sense when his ultimate role is to sacrifice himself for order. Consider this: what MK did at the end, ending the cycle and bringing in the chaos, feels very in-line for what the harbinger of chaos would do. He’s opening the gates of chaos. So basically I’m saying that I don’t think he defied his destiny, he just thinks that he did. In actuality, he did exactly what he was destined to do, and thrust the world out of order and into chaos. I’m going to reply to this comment with more on this in a bit but I’m going to look up some clips first so I don’t misquote anything.

@charlottemckeown700 Ooo I love that idea! That mk in thinking that he defied destiny, just ended up doing his exact destiny love it!

Some supporting evidence from season 4 episode 7. The scroll curse is talking to MK in this scene as an inky version of him as a reminder.
      He says this:
“The chaos and destruction that we’ll bring upon the world will make WuKongs past look like nothing”
And then later there’s this conversation:
      MK: “I’m not-“
Curse: “not what, some monkey demon thing destined to bring chaos unto the world?”
Now I don’t know how reliable the curse is but I feel like it’s maybe our most reliable source? At least compared to the thousand eye demon, or nuwah (can’t remember how to spell her name) it seems more objective. It’s literally a record of everything that’s happened (and maybe will happen) so it’s very interesting that it describes MK as someone who will bring chaos to the world. It certainly doesn’t describe MK as a noble sacrifice…

Also the thousand eyed demon says “the only way your friends survive is if you don’t” which ended up being total bs because his friends weren’t surviving anyway. So do we think he’s just a liar making up shit in order to manipulate MK into resetting the cycle and NOT bringing chaos to the world, or is he talking about sometime later in MK’s destiny where actually the only way for his friends to survive is if he doesn’t. Idk just thoughts.

Also, I am hoping to get to see mqacac vs wokong in the past and in present also. I think MK is gonna get a bit stronger. After what the snake guy said about he’s winning and I’m curious, who is he?
