I grew up in a Dutch CRC. We had a hymn book and sang with an organ. Sometimes, like Christmas the piano would be played or a guy on a trumpet for Easter. In the back of the hymnal are the canons of dort, Belgium confession, nicene creed, westminister confession, and liturgies for baptism, new membership, church discipline etc. We said the apostles creed every Sunday...I miss that one. There were lots of people, and it was close knit. Good ol Smithers BC. Then the debacle of 1995 came around and the church started to split...cest la vie.

Isn't Romans 10:9 the gospel? Plain and simple.
Romans 10:9 alone is a huge deal for Calvinism. Why would our Perfect father in heaven use a conditional word if salvation is unconditional. If Calvinism is true then God is either dishonest, or a bad communicator.
I shouldn't be commenting before saying this, but I'll discuss it if you are capable of changing your mind, I assure you I am, because I am shown things that I am wrong about, or didn't know in the Bible frequently, it is a deep well.

@@travissharon1536Romans 10:9 doesn’t preclude unconditional election. Paul is simply giving a litmus test of salvation: do they believe that Jesus is Lord and that God raised Him from the dead or not? A Calvinist would simply say that the only people who do this have been granted by the Father to do it. On the other hand, an Arminian would say that anyone who made a free will choice to accept Jesus are those who do it. You’re simply arguing from the wrong category.
Also… I’d challenge you to show me another treatise of soteriology before Augustine of Hippo. His conflict with Pelagius gave rise to the need to carefully define doctrines that very well could have been believed in less clear terms by Christians before him.

Awesome video. I am a Particular (Reformed) Baptist and belong to a confessional (1689) church. Our worship service is centered around the Gospel, God glorifying, and Christ-centered. We corporately profess a creed, alternating (on a monthly basis) between the Apostles Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Athanasian Creed. We adhere to the 5 Solas (and TULIP). Our worship music is God-focused; traditional hymns and Psalms. The congregation is a combination of young adults and families and older adults who are passionate about our love and reverence of God (Father, Son, Holy Spirit). Without doubt, God has certainly blessed me on my long journey, searching for His church.

He has no business being a pastor. He lost that right after his potty mouth at Mars Hill. But, people will fall for anything.
I have the belief that pastors should not be paid by the congregation. They should work a secular job to keep them grounded and not relying on church attendance, hyper focused on church growth, and it keeps them in the secular business world so they understand daily what we go through. Besides, I have yet to see a pastor truly busy 40 hours a week.
This is why we see fallen “pastors” like Driscoll always going back to pastoring because they can’t make it in the real world. They think it’s beneath them and it’s not “God’s calling” for them.

Alan, this is completely off topic but I have a question about something that has taken place near me. There is a local girl that goes to a church near me, she went off to college and got pregnant. Her pastor has told her, that she needed to stand before the congregation and apologize to her church members. Is this an appropriate biblical response pastorally? I assume she is a member of the church. And as for the father involved, I don't know if there is an ongoing relationship. I'm quite certain there are no wedding bells in the future, but I'm not sure if he is still in the girl's life. What are your thoughts?

    • @thenathanator1000
      @thenathanator1000 Год назад +1

This is not biblical church discipline. Matthew 18:15-20 says to only bring the matter to the church if the person who sinned refuses to accept counsel and to repent of their sin (before God, not explicitly in front of the congregation.) Only after the person refuses to repent do you bring two or three more to confront, and then afterwards the church will communally cut ties until that person repents. If she has repented of her sin of fornication then she has nothing to apologize to the church for. If she has acknowledged her sin and repented to the Lord to turn from it then the church should forget her sin, just as the Father does for us. This is concerning since the church should be there for her, she sinned in fornication, but the child growing in her is a gift from God and she shouldn't be shamed by the congregation, they should be excited and doing everything they can to help her in her pregnancy. Admittedly I don't know all the details here but it seems to me that her pastor is grossly in the wrong.

Lol. Mark Driscoll does believe In limited atonement. I guess he doesn't understand everyone limits the atonement. As a calvinist I know God limits the atonement. He doesn't elect everyone or else everyone would be saved. The Arminian also limits the atonement, because In there theology not everyone '' makes a decision '' for Christ. So the question Is, who Is sovereign ? God or man? Who limits the atonement God or man? Because there Is no question that It Is limited. Mark Driscoll would be someone who Is illogical In his doctrine since every letter of TULIP logically flows Into one and out the other. If you deny any letter, then you have an inconsistent illogical hermeneutic.

Just a slight correction to your definition of the RPW and the Normative Principle of Worship. RPW is defined whatever is NOT commanded of the manner and forms of worship is PROHIBITED (2nd Commandment, Lev. 10:1). Whereas NPW is defined as whatever is NOT commanded of the manner and forms of worship is PERMITTED. But still well done in distinguishing the Old and New Calvinism.

@tombillard5264 Respectfully, I think the reason there were so many (in your view) is because the church has been attacked regularly throughout history by people trying to bring in destructive heresies and error. Yes we use the scripture primarily but it helped to condense the truths of God’s word for people to see what heresies to avoid when they didn’t have a bible in every home like we do now.
Think about when it went from scroll to handwritten books read to the churches because not every believer had access or even could read. During the dark ages the RC church trying to hold it captive where it was death to those who would translate from Latin or possess a Bible.
Most couldn’t read Latin except the RC church and brave martyrs who translated it.
Then came the printing press to finally get it into hands of the masses.
Personally I think many look superficially at the creeds and confessions from the outside without giving any thought to their origin. I’ve read many of them and it’s so edifying to see we have a like faith with Christians for two thousand years.

I dont doubt that Jesus is Gods son, i just stuggle with understanding how he can be God himself. How can Jesus be a man and God? When was he God and when was he man? Wouldnt him being God take away from the amazing accomplishment that his life was? A perfect man. Since he was not born of the line of Adam, he didnt inhearit the sinful nature that we all share, making it possible to live the life he did. I dont see why he needed ot be God to acheive the sinless life. Jesus praying to God and crying out to God, these things just dont make sense if he was himself God. Does anyone think that one can still be a Christian without belief in the trinity? Thanks for reading an please let me know your thoughts!

The problem the Calvinist has is this; Since Calvinism contends no one can believe and respond positively to God apart from God's effectual act upon them against their will, (Dr. Sproul agreed it is akin to 'spiritual rape'), In their system, this is also true of anyone who leaves the faith or rejects Calvinism.(it is only by God's unchangeable decree from before the foundation of the world).
I’d say one would be hard pressed to suggest these prominent former Calvinists didn’t ‘understand’ TULIP. Here are a few recent well known and respected de-converts:
Tyler Vela, long-time popular Calvinist apologist, now denies Christ
Paul Maxwell, a former long-time associate of John Piper/ Desiring God writer and the author of the book The Trauma of Doctrine, has announced he is no longer a Christian.
Derek Webb, artistic apologist for Reformed theology for 10yrs in his work with Caedmon's and then in his solo albums, now denies Christ.
Joshua Harris, leading Calvinist pastor and author, fonder of Sovereign Grace Ministries, associate of Louis Giglio/’Passion movement’, left ministry and the faith altogether.
All of these people affirmed Christianity and Calvinism for many years... which they also affirmed was by God's decree, just as you probably do. "Unconditional Election is a Calvinist fundamental premise. However, now they have abandoned their belief. And an honest Calvinist must affirm this is also only by God's decree. This means their entire Christian experience and testimony was only an episode of Evanescent Grace... their faith was fake.. by God' decree, and they had no idea anymore than any Calvinist currently has in their presumption of belief in Christ.
Calvin devised his theory of temporary/ ‘Evanescent Grace’ which teaches that God grants to "faith" some but withdraws it later because he was just messing with their mind for his own amusement and never really loved them anyway. This is the only way to explain those who leave the faith after believing within the parameters allowed by Calvinism.
This means Calvinists are encouraged to worship a God who, in the end, cannot be trusted to love any one individual…personally, certainly not themselves. If he did it to these studied, prominent, trusted, and respected Calvinists, you have no assurance God does not already have plans to do it to you. 🤔
The Calvinist can have no assurance of their election to salvation because Calvinism does not afford it. All one can do is search for 'evidence' of Christian activity (works) and cling to them like a broken plank form a sinking ship and "hope for the best" because that's all they have.
As for those who come out from under the fog of Calvinism and retain their faith in Christ, the single most common comment is along the lines of “I can’t believe I ever fell for it” Once you accept the false premise of Calvinism, all scripture must be first ‘filtered’ through TULIP and that which doesn’t ‘fit’ must be ‘massaged’ until it does, and that which cannot be made to fit is explained away or sacrificed on the alter or “mystery”. All this is done that the doctrine of TULIP may survive.

Reformed theology and Calvinism are nothing more than a man-made theological maze of misinterpreted, out of context, poorly executed hermeneutics of the Bible. @rogervincent2092 Well everyone on that list is a professional apologist and everyone of them found critical problems with calvinism. Leighton often talks about his time in calvinism and his love for guys like macarthur and RC. I think it's a pretty low blow to just assume the guy is lying about all his time spent in that theology. Do you have any evidence that he faked his time in calvinism or do you think all these apologists and myself are just too dumb to understand the theology? Jon Samson is a calvinist and has filled in on the dividing line for James white, I studied with him and there was about 6 to 10 questions where his answer was that I need to spend more time in study and then the answers would become more satisfying. If I pointed out Paul saying we need good works to get to heaven in romans 2, he'd say well he can't mean what he says there because he says we don't need works in other places. If I'd point out christ weeping for Jerusalem because they would not choose him. How could that work with irresistible grace? Why doesn't christ just decide to regenerate these people instead of crying about a choice they can't make if they wanted to? He'd point out a different passage that points out gods sovereignty. He chooses vessels for destruction..... its like "no. Let's deal with the passage instead of ignore it in light of a different passage. Eventually you get tired of shaking your head and just wanna get back to scripture instead of holding scripture hostage with your theology like that. One of my favorite things about catholicism is that we do have good logical answers for all these problems. It's like a big breath of fresh air or having a bunch of knots untangled.

All of these people affirmed Christianity and Calvinism for many years... which they also affirmed was by God's decree, just as you do. "Unconditional Election is the Calvinist fundamental premise. However, now they have abandoned their belief. And you must affirm is also only by God's decree. This means their entire Christian experience and testimony was only an episode of Evanescent Grace... their faith was fake.. by God' decree, and they had no idea.

What sort of Calvinist am I then? This has sadly confused me! Can someone please tell me what sort I am?
I do try and Glorify God in everything I do, I do not always succeed, but I do try.
I am Trinitarian as Per the Nicene, Apostolic and Athanasian Creeds.
I hold to the Bible (Byzantine, 66 Book, GSB, BB, KJV or MEV) as infallible, preserved, Holy, Complete, wholly sufficient and in total authority until the return of Christ.
I Hold very Strongly to the Use of the King James Version for Preference, but Fully Accept the Geneva Study, Bishops (Puritan) and Modern English Versions, I Tolerate, but am Skeptical of, the New King James (Removal of Verses), the English Standard Bible, the North American Standard Bible and the Legacy Standard Bible (Removal of Verses, Addition of Verses, Use of Corrupt Alexandrian Manuscripts) but will not tolerate the use of the NIV or GNT as I consider them Heretical, Romish, Sodomite, Gnostic Perversions!
I hold to all 5 Points of Grace. Full TULIP.
I Believe man is saved by Grace Alone, and that works afterwards are the result of saving faith for Obedience and sanctification.
I Believe the Divinity of Christ as Fully God and fully man. The God-man.
I believe a Christian should strive to live a Holy and Separate Life unto the Lord for Obedience and sanctification.
I consider Arminianism in all of its forms (such as Wesleyanism) to be Pelagian, Romish, and a Damnable Heresy.
I hold to Supralapsarianism, double predestination, and active damnation (God actively hardens the unelect as per Romans 9) for those elected for destruction.
I hold to the 1646 Westminster Confession (Mostly, with some 1689 Second London as well), the 1619 Canons of Dort, the 1647 Shorter and Longer Westminster Catechisms, and the 1662 Book of Common Prayer.
I am a Traditional Cessationist, Miracles are ongoing, but the apostolic Gifts (tongues, prophecy, healing etc) Utterly Ceased in 101- 105 AD when the Apostle John went to be with the Lord.
I consider Charismaticism to be Wesleyan, as Voodoo Witchcraft, and Heretical.
I am Futurist, Premillennial and Pre Tribulation.
I am 1689 Federalist holding to elements from both Covenant theology and Dispensationalism.
I feel we are in the last, Laodicean, Age.
I am Strictly Complementarian, I consider Egalitarianism to be Heresy! I consider some things (Preaching, Headship) to be only for the Man, and some things (wearing skirts, being silent) to be only for the Woman.
I hold to exclusively male headship, male only readers, male only teachers, male only pastors, male only elders.
I believe women are to be silent in church, and are only to speak if an elder (male only) permits them to as to perform a communion vow or to sing Hymns or Psalmody.
I do not believe in free will, and consider it a repugnant and Papal falsehood, I believe man only has Slave will.
I do not permit Drums, Guitars or other such worldly rock instruments in the Church.
I hold exclusively to Pre 1928 Reformed Hymns and Psalmody. I consider all Post 1928 "worship" to be Romish at best and new age at worst!
I permit a Quiet mechanical Piano or mechanical Organ to guide the tune on Hymns, but Psalmody must be unaccompanied. So "mostly" Regulative.
I consider the "Normative" Principle to be Heresy, and turning church into a Circus!
I Do not permit the raising of hands or other such worldly festival behaviour in Church.
I do permit some occasional family friendly humour when appropriate, I do not Permit Comedy Focus, Harsh Jesting or Profanity of any kind However.
I consider "CRT" to be utterly Satanic, and I am politically conservative by British Standards, but Liberal by American Standards as I am opposed to Guns. I am also utterly opposed to Globalism, the WEF, the WHO, the EU, the UN, etc.
I only accept Christ as King!
I am Zero Tolerance on Progressivism, Homosexuality and all other forms of Sexual Abboration are Abomination, and those who are such are Not to be Permitted to worship unless they repent, leave that lifestyle, and become totally celibate and separate!
I hold to Biblical Separation, and believe the true Reformed Church should not commune with Papacists, Arminians, Wesleyans, Progressives ,Normatives, Continualists, Luthereans (owing to the Damnable Heresy of "conditional security") ,Charismatics, Egalitarians, New Ageists, Judaizers, Seeker Sensitives, or followers of false religions such as Non-Reformed, Apostate (Romish and Wesleyan), Mainstream Anglicanism, the true church should shun all who are not Reformed as unbelievers! Ecumenism is Heresy! However, Reformed Churches, such as the Evangelical Connexion and the Continuing Reformed (both Taking Episcopacy from J.C. Ryle and both Churches I am personally looking at Joining one thereof!) should be encouraged to Commune.
I Believe a Christian should avoid being unequally yoked if at all possible. Try and avoid Theatres and Cinemas.
I Permit Pets, am very Fond of Dogs, and do Believe there will be Animals in Paradise and the New World.
I consider "soul sleep" a Damnable Heresy. I believe that the Sheep will awaken in Paradise immediately after Death, and the Goats, Tragically, will plunge instantly and consciously into Hell.
I consider the Forcing of Old Testament Mosaic Covenant Sabbath Laws unto the Lords Day to be the Damnable Heresy of Judaizing/Galatianism. Same as Forcing Tithes or any other Mosaic Law that was nailed to the Cross.
However I do Hold to the Ten Commandments as Active and Binding, but Christ Himself is our Sabbath, not a Given Day.
I consider Prosperity teaching to be Damnable Heresy, and I distrust mammon deeply.
I Consider Liturgy to be Romish and Time Wasting, the Sermon Should be Focused on the teaching of the Word, and all Sermons must contain Christ without fail. Props are only for Sunday School, and the main Sermon needs only the word.
I hold to the Continental (Dort) model of the Lords Day and the Five Evangelical Feasts, as well as All saints Day.
I consider "Halloween" as New Age, Satanic, and something that has No Place what so ever in the Church, in Church institutions, nor in the life of any Christian.
I Permit Birthdays so long as no Revelry nor Drunkenness is Practised.
I am Credobaptist, but hold to Baptism as only a profession of faith, and an outward symbol of the inner Baptism of the Holy Ghost at the Very Moment of Faith.
I consider Communion to be in memorial only, and something to be taken on every Lords Day. I Believe it to be Acceptable for Children (as Children should be welcomed and Encouraged in Church!) to take it if they are confirmed members of the Church.
I permit Vacations so long as Sinful Activities such as Revelry are abstained from.
I am semi-Iconoclast and do not approve of the worship of images or statues, as I consider Iconodoulism to be Pagan, Romish, and a Second Commandment Violation. I consider them otherwise neutral, as art, and as a Reminder.
Although I do not Personally enjoy Sports (Except Motor Racing, I do Enjoy Motor Racing!), I consider them Permissable, I view Fordiddance as Legalism and as Heresy, However I am of the View that some Sports (Soccer) are only for Men, Some Sports (such as Figure Skating) are only for Women, and some Sports (Motor Racing) are Permissable for both.
I Permit Movies, Video Games, Television, Music, etc, Outside of the Church as a Romans 14 14 matter (for Example, I esteem Forza Horizon as Mostly Clean and Permissable, but NFS Unbound as Every Whit Way Unclean! and to be avoided) based on Conscience regarding Issues such as Violence, Profanity, Crime, other such Unclean Elements, Secular Propaganda, Sex, etc) as my Conscience is Weak I do Forbid the vast Majority of Movies, TV Shows, Music (I consider "Hip Hop" to be especially Satanic and utterly Forbid it for myself) for Myself as Unclean, but not all! I consider a "preacher" imposing a Blanket Forbiddance to be Legalism. However I do not Permit them in the Church, the Church is for the word, not the world!
I more than Permit Special Needs individuals to be Members of the Church, as additional needs are no Barrier to the Immutable, all conquering, Divine, Sovereign, Electing Love of JEHOVAH, I know, being Autistic Myself.
So what sort am I? Traditional Calvinist? new Calvinist? Sovereign Grace Hybrid? It is most confusing.
Answers would be very much appreciated, love and peace.

Also, although CHRIST has offered salvation to every creature in the whole world in Mark 16 : 15 , calvinist claim that CHRIST didn't atone for all , thus accusing HIM of making an empty offer that HE hss no intention of honoring which also corruptly portrays GOD and HIS righteousness and accuses CHRIST of hypocrisy. These are your claims if you're a consistent calvinist. Do you agree with James White and John Piper?
They both claim that GOD doesn't only allow child rape and torture, but is the very cause of it for HIS purposes to show HIS power for HIS glory of all things. If you dent these horrible blasphemous claims are true, then I would urge you to rethink these blasphemous teachings you've embraced, my friend. The Bible says that pride and lust don't come from GOD and that GOD isn't tempted, nor does HE tempt man , but calvinists have made these claims in error and even though they contradict scripture they hold to them and simply just try to ad hoc rationalize them away . Have you ever stopped to realize that there's not even one biblical passage that explicitly backs up the claims of TULIP except for maybe the P in TULIP , because they're built solely on philosophy of the texts instead of what the texts actually say themselves ?

If consider myself a “New Calvinist” but it’s not the young, restless, and reformed version. Rather it’s a newer form, one that incorporates Molinism into the system as an explanatory backdrop of how God’s Providence (and pre-determinism) works. This undercuts the charges of much of the system and resolves the mystery between human freedom, divine determinism, and moral culpability. One example of how it really helps is in the area of “double predestination”. It may be that God chooses to pass over certain specific individuals and prevent them even the chance to be saved not because he is an evil tyrant but rather because, in the overall global sandbox of salvation, if God were to allow such and such to come to faith, it would lead to an overall less desirable world with less people saved. And so God has made a plan that involved causing some people to come to faith and specific times and specific ways so that and the end of days the most desirable world and the most possible saved (given the conditions God himself required) would come to pass. This is just one such example of where marrying Molinism with Calvinism helps resolve the tension that most people have against the “Old View” of Calvinism.
