  • For twenty years, Greg Zanis, a retired carpenter from Aurora, Illinois has given America hope with his crosses, but no one has ever welcomed him or thanked him like Las Vegas.
Just days after the 1 October Mass Shooting at Route 91 Harvest Concert near Mandalay Bay, Zanis, arrived with 58 crosses to remember and memorialize the victims. His gracious gift compelled the FOX5 Surprise Squad and community partners to give him something he’s never been given before.
This heartwarming story reveals the real heart of Las Vegas.
A huge thank you to United Nissan, America First Credit Union, Albertsons/Vons, and The Home Depot.

Bobby Riffle Personally, I’m an Atheist and I think they mentioned that they aren’t a Christina because this guy IS a Christian. I think they were pointing out that even people that don’t agree with his beliefs can still admire and respect him, because his kindness goes beyond religious differences or political differences, etcetera.

@@BOBBYRIF1 Bro whats with the hostility. He's just saying that he might not share all his believes but that he can find common ground and ideas and morals that can unite us, rather than focus on what divides us. I'm not christian either but I have a lot of respect for some values their religion holds. No need to be a prick.

@@BOBBYRIF1 Why do you have to be a jerk? The comment was likely meant towards it being a cross, but unlike you they transcended that belief to see it as a symbol of comfort in the US. Even if you don't believe, it is easy to see the meaning and THAT is what matters.

On Friday, three days before Zanis passed away, residents of his hometown formed a mile-plus-long car parade to pay tribute to him. His family invited people to drive by and wave so Zanis could appreciate it, according to WLS.

I remember reading right after this awful tragedy that this man traveled Last Vegas and put up these crossed for these victims. I cried then, thinking what a kind hearted man. Because he did it just out of love; that's a true blessing. God blesses us in ways you cannot imagine. From the depths of my heart, on behalf of the kindness you've shown, I pray that God will continue to bless you young man. A true, selfless act such as this is a blessing, especially in this day and time we live in. You are a bright, shining light in a world that's become so dark. I have no doubt you will continue to pay it forward with the blessing bestowed upon you for simply being who you truly are. God bless you

This man is amazing; but it's at a great cost to his own family. Good on Vegas for embracing this guy.

Oh man I’m crying like a baby...I’m gonna make everyone I know watch this video. If this isn’t love if this isn’t God moving in people’s lives I don’t know what is. Miracle’s still happen especially when your willing to pick up your cross and follow Him. Grace at work here and a man worthy of our prayers! Thank you all who are involved in doing such a painful ministry. God bless you all!

    Mr Zanis,
You sir are a true inspiration to us all. I'm not an American but have felt the loss of lives in America and all over the world for that matter a true loss and waste of life. What you do selflessly is beyond comprehension to some of us in this world. As the gentleman said in the film i hope you don't have to keep making your crosses for too much longer but history tells me that won't happen. I'm not a religious man but if there is a GOD, he sure made a good bloke in you. Cheers from Australia: And thank you Fox5 for bringing this to everyone's attention #fox5
