Longtime Star Wars guy here going back to age 5 in the late 70s. Fan films ARE often really great! But I’ve been really enjoying all of the new shows, including the Acolyte. That’s not to discount anyone else’s opinions, though. As always, that’s valid. I’m hoping for a Plagueis tie-in soon with this series, though that may be far-fetched.

What constitutes a 'fan'? Because Leslye Headland, the director, has apparently been a long time Star Wars fan, apparently thinking of ideas for Star Wars movies since she was a child. She even has Leia concept art tattooed on her hand.
And apparently Filoni helped her out with some of the bits people hated. So I don't think being a fan is the problem.
Personally I think people just don't hold fan films to the same standard as official releases. Most of the time people start their hatred of anything Disney do before they even release it.

They have said they don't want a fan to do the new show. She obviously don't know the difference in Wars and Trek.

This is a legitimate recommendation to save StarWars. FanFilms (including the Good, Bad or Ugly ones Disney are putting out) are a viable way to extend Star Wars. The problem is when Disney has a choke hold on the output. They only let out their narrow channel (and recently turdish) material and not allowing the fan voice like Lucas Arts did. One of the biggest reason that Star Wars had it’s staying power between the release of RotJ in ‘83 and PhantomMenace in ‘99 was all of the EU books released over the years. Many different authors telling their own flavor of the tales from a Galaxy Far, Far Away to entertain a diverse audience of fans. The Timothy Zahn series are one example, but Death Star, I Jedi, Bounty Hunter Tales, Order 66, Slave Ship, Rule of Two, and The Crimson Empire Saga are all prime examples of different subjects, writing styles and eras covering known movie characters and new characters alike. Diversity has been here all along, but now Disney wants to constrict it until it’s too steril to recognize by its one thread (aka non-diversity). To put it plainly, Disney’s attempt to “controlling the narrative” is actually destroying the narrative. Most of their stuff is liked by some audience (I’m apparently one of the few fans I know of the Book of Boba Fett… and I didn’t care for the Mando episode shoehorned in the middle so 🤷🏻‍♂️) but with no other outlet, they are making themselves the gatekeepers and therefore catching ALL of the brunt of criticism when the only product on the market isn’t liked by EVERYONE. Not smart. Fan films ARE the modern version of the EU books. Watch fan films… Support fan films… and let the imagination flow.

She is a fan of Star Wars, so I’m not sure if you know what you’re talking about.

A FAN understands and respects the lore

She can be a fan and make something that she likes. The problem is that Disney’s attempt to “control the narrative” is stifling creativity and, as the gatekeepers they’ve become, receive all the backlash when the fans watching the product aren’t on the same page as the fans creating it. The EU books that carried the franchise 20 years between movies is truly diverse. They have military books, introspective philosophical books, children’s books, etc, so each fan can find something they like. Disney has killed that patten of open thinking. They say you MUST like and MUST agree with their political views. Sometimes ok, sometimes trash, sometimes shouldn’t have even been filmed as B-roll. She may be a “fan” but she doesn’t speak for us all, and according to the reviews, not for many people outside of the Hollywood machine, aka the consumers.

@@ItsTechSolo7 Nothing in The Acolyte is lore breaking. Shit it barely hits the powers in the Old Republic
