Once I wanted to count how many pieces of new information were in an Ahsoka episode, because I wanted to compare it with a Clone Wars episode ...well the new "bits of information" started to come way past the time mark. There’s a lot of important plot questions that need to be answered in 30 minutes next week. What could possibly go wrong? here’s everything left unanswered in chronological order:
-what was supposed to be the outcome of the interrupted witch ceremony that osha couldn’t finish
-How did mei survive the fall
-how did mei meet smilo ren
-why did osha leave the order
    -is osha evil now
-why doesn’t mei want to turn herself in anymore
-where/who is plageuis and does he find out about the witches
    -why was this show made
-what is the point of this show
-why is it important that this is 100 years before the phantom menace

    • @pixel3042

      My guess:
      - Osha joins Smilo Ren because she is attracted to him sexually
      - Darth Plageuis comes to kill Smilo Ren for revealing him to the jedi
      - Plageuis captures Osha and learns how to create kids from the force
      - Plageuis also kills Sol to keep the sith a secret
      - Mae either also gets killed and runs off
      - Osha left the order because deep down she always knew what the jedi did to her family
      - Mei survived the fall because the dark side grants many abilities that some would consider unnatural
      - And Smilo Ren sensed Mei across the galaxy somehow and taught her the dark side to get back at the jedi

Kennedy basically leaked all of this out in an interview with a magazine, at a time in which Iger was trying to do something to "help" Star Wars. Thus they couldn't cancel the show now since if they did a while drama would start that could lead to legal battles

Han’s name was stupid, having him get everything on a single adventure was stupid, they ruined the Falcon, LEET was an unnecessary addition, the new trooper variants are stupid except for the Mudtroopers being the live-action debut of the Imperial Army Troopers, Corellia was changed from one of the most unique worlds in the lore to a generic industrial city world we have seen done to death in this genre and they really watered down Han’s character by making him less of a morally ambiguous scoundrel who had some redeeming qualities and more of a generic hero character. Also Lando is similarly ruined by being made a cheater at sabaac which wasn’t an interesting or necessary change and in fact ruined the point about Sabaac being a game you can’t really cheat at since counting cards is impossible.

It’s funny, this show is trying so hard to paint the Jedi as bad and they even failed at that. I thought for sure they had tampered with the reactor and accidentally killed the witches that way. The only thing the Jedi did was kill 1 witch in a morally ambiguous situation. Sol was a bit jumpy and over emotional, but he acted defensively to the witch’s dark power while the rest of the witches were already aggressive and about to attack, it wasn’t that unreasonable

We got teased with a 'Rashomon effect' by Kurosawa, where the same event is given contradictory interpretations by different individuals involved, thereby providing different perspectives on the same incident. The insufferable hacks writing this though really didn't get that, as we get basically the same perspective as in episode 3. Episode 3 just held back on a bit of information to keep the audience in the dark, which then got stretched out all the way to ep. 7. THIS IS NOT HOW THAT WORKS!

7 weeks? So, like, 7 weeks of discussion about a pointless nothing of TV show? Funny, because the first week would have been 2 episodes, so it will only have been 6 weeks of discourse by the time the final episode arrives. Missed opportunity for something meta, unless that was their goal all along and they somehow even messed that up... unless this has all been a smokescreen and after a seventh week of youtubers ripping the finale apart, Disney says "April fools! Here's the real one."
I don't think they're capable of something like that... nor would it go down very well after this nonsense... but it did cross my mind immediately when I heard they were there for 7 weeks and found nothing. Wow. Has it really been over a month already?

The story can’t progress I guess because they blew the budget on something else lol. Not sure where that money went but basically seeing the same episode twice at different points in the same season with only minor POV change is ridiculous. Seems like that would’ve saved them some money right?….so that seems like more evidence that money didn’t all go to this series at all. I hope everyone that worked on this show at least got a free tank of gas out of this deal.

The only reason this episode was so long is because they showed us so many of the same Episode 3 scenes, just from different angles. I was laughing thinking "they don't need to show us this one again," they could have just skipped to the scenes where actual important details are revealed, instead of walking us through the entire episode all over. If they had only flashed back to the essential scenes, this show would have been less than 20 minutes.

What bugs me the most about this show (other than the retcons that they made) is just how it feels like the people writing the show don't understand how to write a story that actually makes logical sense. A lot of their characters don't act like how actual human beings would if they were put in those scenarios. It feels like the writers and creators of the show are thinking that they're saying something profound, when it feels like they're not even speaking an actual coherent language at all. Especially when they're trying to make you feel like a villain is completely relatable- when said villain is completely unhinged and murders people just because he can. It feels like highschool-level fanfiction that someone was paid to make into a Star Wars show, rather than actually making something interesting and coherent in the first place.
Despite the common consensus, I don't really care about who the showrunners are as people or what they did in their past. I just care about judging the show on it's own merits, instead of those who are attached to it.. and on it's own merits this show is something that makes me sort of desire to stay away from Disney Star Wars instead of watching or consuming more. I haven't watched a Star Wars show since Kenobi, and haven't seen any of the newer movies since Solo. I don't think this'll change any time soon unfortunately.

I'm like you, I don't judge the producers because of who they are or what they did previously. To me The Acolyte isn't very political or controversial. It isn't very anything basically, it's bland. I'm pretty sure a lot of the viewers put more thought into it than the showrunners, this feels like a rough outline of a story. How it got approved, filmed and broadcasted in that state is truly mindblowing.

None of these Jedi act like Jedi, even Indara, the one who is clearly well above the others in skill and maturity, says they need to lie to the council at the end. Why? They could have told the truth and the Council likely understands. Not being able to train Osha if they tell the truth is not a good enough reason for Indara to suggest lies and coverup. Disney does not understand the force or Jedi.

Sol’s interest in getting Osha away from the coven aligned with Osha’s desire to get to leave and explore the galaxy, the main issue being complications on both sides that made each of them achieving their goals far more difficult, along with the fact that the Jedi were Osha’s best chance at getting away from the coven that would try to keep her there and the coven and Sol seeing Osha as a potential apprentice he wanted conflicted with his desire for her to simply be safe.
Either way, their attempt to make it out that there really was no “villain” and that it’s only a matter of perspective doesn’t really work with how the coven treated these girls in the same way the Jedi treat their younglings, only the Jedi were willing to let Osha leave and live a peaceful life outside the Order (even fulfilling her original goal of simply traveling beyond her home) until Mae, the jealous weirdo that she is, indirectly disrupted this with her murder spree incriminating Osha.

Unbelievable. The whole point of Roshomon was that it was distinct points of view on the one story. The Bandit saw himself as cunning and brave and the samurai a Worthy Opponent who he slew in a Duel to the Death. The woman saw everything through her own personal despair, so the bandit is just a violent maniac who flees after raping her. The Samurai saw the bandit as a violent thug with some ethics, and his wife was a full-blown villain, and the Woodcutter saw them as the worst versions of themselves.

Years later, as she’s wrestling with her attachment to her dead mother and sister, she pushes Sol on what happened that night. He tells the truth which causes OSHA to leave the Jedi force confused about how her master could lie to her for all these years. She later finds out that her sister is actually alive so she begrudgingly helps the Jedi to find her. She’s knocked out again in the forest during the big battle and is eventually taken by Qimir.

Even though they gave us some answers, this episode presented new questions that certainly won’t be answered in the final episode of this season next week. I am glad they didn’t just show the same events again through different eyes, instead we just see more of the big events from 16 years ago. So the Jedi were on this planet due to a ‘vergence’ in the Force, or a suspected vergence, I guess. Shouldn’t they sense it in the Force, like Luke did on Dagobah? To find it they use metal detectors and take plant samples which they run through some test. Four Jedi to search an entire planet for something that we’re not sure what exactly they’re looking for. I got the impression that the Jedi didn’t really know what they were looking for either. Then later we learn that Mae and Osha are clones and are exactly the same, which they think is the vergence - or were they created by the vergence? Who knows? Either way, Osha has a huge M count, perhaps as high (or higher) than Anakin. Of course we don’t get any real answers.
Then we have Master Sol acting so immature and rather stupid. “Osha was meant to be my padawan!”. He ran around and seemed a bit too interested in making Osha his padawan. At least the Jedi Council, when they were contacted, acted logically, but the whole incident was caused by both sides acting impulsively and foolishly.
The witches seem far more sinister and dangerous in this episode. When Mother Aniseya possessed Torbin it definitely had some dark side evil vibes going on, not merely a mother protecting her child. But that wasn’t really explained and could have just been a red herring to fool us into thinking Torbin would be used by the witches to fight the Jedi, when - somehow-it was actually Kelnacca.
What was the deal with the witches’ ‘black mist’ form? When Aniseya changed into it, I sure couldn’t blame Master Sol for attacking her, but why did she take that form? Did she do it to go help Mae and Osha? Since Mae saw Sol kill Aniseya, what more could he explain to Mae about what happened that night? Mae was still to blame for most of it, though she tried to put out the fire she started then ran to get help. But it was Mother Koril who fired her up “Get angry” she told her, which certainly sounded like something a Sith would do. And we don’t see Koril die (or did I miss it?) so she can reappear in season 2 or next week’s episode. Perhaps she is Qimir’s master after all.
And how exactly did all the witches possess Kelnacca’s mind? Was it because he was a ‘primitive’ Wookiee and thus easy to control? It took all of them, yet Indara pulled him out of it all by herself. Then the witches all fall back and later when Sol and Osha are escaping, we see that they are dead. Did they die as a result of Indara freeing Kelnacca? Who knows, it isn’t clear at all.
Then we have the whole conversation on the ship before Osha wakes up. Sol wants to go confess to the Jedi council, Indara persuades him to not exactly lie, but heavily minimize the Jedi involvement in the incident and lay it on Mae’s hands. At least we see Sol trying to save both girls on the collapsing bridge until he has to let it go and manages to grab Osha. After he had Kelnacca beat the crap out of him, it was believable that he would be a bit weak.
So far, no sign of Qimir on the scene 16 years earlier, and frankly I’m glad, that would have been a bit too much coincidence. My overall opinion of this episode is that the Jedi seemed a bit out of character (at least those down on the planet looking for the vergence) and all of them were not very wise, even Sol. The witches were much more dark side in this episode and were clearly partially to blame for what happened, especially Mother Koril, who fired everyone up. The ‘searching for a vergence’ explanation for the Jedi’s presence seemed a bit hokey - aren’t there scanners on ships that could have detected at least one settlement, albeit small in size, of intelligent life? Since all the witches used ‘magic’ that was likely Force based, shouldn’t they have been able to sense this concentration of Force users when they landed on the planet? The Jedi act so surprised to find people there too --- a lush planet and the whole galaxy has starships, so why wouldn’t some people come there to live if they wanted to get away from something. That wouldn’t be that odd at all. What the heck is the ‘vergence’ on this planet anyway? Was Osha and Mae the vergence, or were they created as a result of the vergence? This hints strongly of Anakin’s origin and I’m hoping they don’t try to somehow tie it in somehow, though it would take place around 90 years before Anakin was born.
Sol seemed very immature in this episode and Torbin was a whiney padawan that just wanted to go back to Coruscant. Still, I don’t think he’d feel such guilt that 16 years later he’d kill himself over it. The whole incident was bad, but not something really terrible. The Jedi didn’t really kill very many of the witches - perhaps the only witch who they directly killed was Mother Aniseya when she took that mist form. I could see Mae wanting revenge, but for Sol and Torbin (and maybe Kelnacca) to feel overwhelming guilt seems a bit much. Sol would feel guilt for Aniseya and for not being able to save Mae (though now he knows she survived). The witches really started the whole thing by attacking the Jedi, though the Jedi should have just not barged in. Overall, it was a so-so episode and they were somewhat fairer in passing the blame around than I imagined that they would, but it still seemed to be a weak story that left more questions than it answered.

They explained that the planet was previously charted as barren and uninhabitable for life, then suddenly found to be thriving. The Jedi had theorized a vergence in the force had spontaneously created life on the planet and were seeking evidence to support the theory. It is dumb that they didn’t detect the fortress and the coven life signs from orbit though. The giant mountain fortress should have been the first thing noticed on an orbital survey before they even landed.

I’m not even a writer but I could’ve saved the episode all these new questions.
Have Torbin have a sick mother at home or something. Show Indara using the force on someone’s mind against Mae in Ep. 1 to show she could’ve done all that to the witches controlling Kelnacca in this one. Show mother Aniseya using black mist powers in Ep. 3. At this point, Mae could’ve just thrown the fire first at Osha, osha ducked, the room caught fire, Mae closes the door because she wants OSHA dead, then the episode carries on. And I’m assuming the witchs also manipulated Kelnacca’s desires too, wish we knew what those were, maybe give us a Han and Chewy dialogue so we know what he says. Qimir definitely used to be Sol’s padawan and he feels guilty about failing Qimir, so that’s probably next episode. Also, Mae had enough time on the bridge to at least allude to the fact that one of the Jedi killed their mother, then osha could’ve gone all “the Jedi wouldn’t do that right? They’re good” and then Sol saves her to confirm that to her.
They really do love to bury the lead and then call it a “mystery” show.

She has an agenda in her writing. It's okay for Darth Sleeveless to crave a padawan so bad that we have 5-6 episodes of his story yet the Jedi "Sol" has his need for a padawan explained in one episode. You can say and argue there's no agenda in the writing but when you spend half the season trying to get sympathy for one side but are able to explain the motives for the opposite side with that has the same intention in just one episode, something is clearly wrong there.

They are not saying it's some sort of alien thing to star wars to have a sith have human motivations and to spend time explaining them, they are saying someone wrote it, someone specifically thought to write it this way, show it for episodes, drag the point across. If it's not agenda it's bad writing, pick your poison. I would say it's mostly bad writing with some agenda trying to cover it up.
And prequels are not "political" in the sense that people criticize modern shows, it's about the Evil plotting and subjugating power, it's not meant to defend some point, it's just politics from an objective side, everyone can agree on the points conveyed and then agree or disagree with the characters themselves. Just like the og star wars have one big fascist empire that kills billions, it's political somewhat but in the most crude obvious way. If there are any non-trivial messages they are subtle and mostly about morals overall. Even sequels dont have any real political messages, it's just good vs evil, with some excessive Mary Sueism on top, though they have plenty of other things to be ridiculed for. If the police (which the Jedi are, effectively) stopped by my house to perform a welfare check on my children, and I pre-emptively attacked one of them, I doubt they would respond with such a laissez-faire attitude.
