Yes, he came up during the rock n roll era of the 1950s. Later in life though, Little Richard.calmed down his drama for recognition. He became subtle. Finally. He always thought, that he was the King Of Rock n Roll. He was, indeed one of the founders. For certain.

The Harlem Blues & Jazz Band (with Eddie Durham) performs at The Waldorf Astoria for The very first Rock ’n Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony inducting “Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, Little Richard, Fats Domino, Buddy Holly, the Everly Brothers, Ray Charles, James Brown, Sam Cooke and Jerry Lee Lewis; Non-Performer category were Sun Records founder Sam Phillips and seminal DJ Alan Freed; Early Influence category were blues icon Robert Johnson, country's Jimmie Rogers, and boogie-woogie pianist Jimmy Yancey. Columbia Records' legendary A&R man John Hammond. Eddie Durham recalled: “I played nine years [with Wynonie and Larry Darnell]. I booked us in Richmond, Norfolk, Newport, Georgia with three bands traveling. Little Richard’s five-piece band; my six-piece girl band, a shake-dancer named Sonya Millburn from Canada, Elaine who had the hit record, C.C. Williams and cuban Freddie Benito. Little Richard was just recording then and he got hit right after that tour. But I had Little Richard’s band on one side, my band on another side and the girls in the middle, maybe 17 or 18 pieces altogether. We played the opening together. Little Richard would do the blues and we’d open up altogether with it…feature some guys in my band and some girls on the saxes and then onto somebody else and in the end, Little Richard would come out and sing and we’d close the curtain, then open it back up with the girls band, and they’d do a specialty." Both Diana and Mary have stated what an influence he was on them as a group. While many may not connected them musically, there was certain element of showmanship and style that can easily be drawn between the two. He started the flamboyant, extravagant, fashionable side of rock and the Supremes, of course, are known for their sequin and beaded gowns, the makeup, and big wigs. He even jokes in this about Diana Ross dressing like him for years. Plus he was a dear friend of the group and knew how important they were. It’s a funny thing about Rock. You don’t know who influenced who. And honestly it’s rather fitting that one of the architects of rock wanted to induct them. That speaks volumes to who the Supremes were.

That was never true that was a rumor that got pegged unfairly to Diana Ross most probably started by Mary Wilson , being who she was because Berry Gordy wanted Diana to lead because each of them had a chance to lead " they each lead & got nowhere until it was diana's turn to lead again & they where given the song "Where did Our Love Go " first given to the other stars who turned it down because they didn't like the song ,so it was given to the Supremes with Diana turn at lead they too didn't like the song . Berry said to them you'll can't turn down anything because you'll are at the bottom of the roster you have no one to pass it to which made Diana angry and she cried because they couldn't turn it down & Berry told them to get in there and record . And it is said that Diana tried to mess the song up trying to sing it nasally and high pitch. It is said Berry then asked the writers HDH do you think we need to stop ,HDH said no way she thinks she's messing up the song but she's singing it perfectly. It is said when she was finished Diana told HDH I hope you got what you were looking for and walked away . In the meantime the Supremes was nicknamed the no hit Supremes because they had no hits while they were on the Dick Clark Caravan review in concert.the Supremes would open the show because they were the no hits Supremes ,and in the meantime Motown released "Where Did Our Love Go" and it became and instant hit climbing up the billboard charts to number #1 not only did it become a hit but "Where Did Our Love Go" became a huge hit peaking at numberv#1 and staying there for 4"weeks . Berry quickly got the girl back into the studio to record the ensuing records making the Supremes having 5 consecutive number #1's Baby Love , Stop in The Name of Love ,Come See About Me ,and Back In My Arms Again. This happened with Diana Ross taking lead. Berry said you don't fix what's not broken. So he made her the permanent lead you see remember because they all at first took lead . But it was Diana Ross who broke through it was also Berry Gordy who made her to be permanent lead not Diana Ross herself though she's been tagged that unfairly that way. Diana also had a good speaking voice and she also had that persona you can dislike her for her abilities all you want but that's the truth of what happened . Berry also found that if the groups had a lead out front he could command a higher royalty for them and that's why he made billed the Supremes as Diana Ross and the Supremes ,as he also did the same for Smoky Robinson and the Miracles & Martha and the Vandallas etc. You see any of them bitching .they also got much larger pay for doing that & Diana even in the lead insisted the money be divided evenly . that's not the way it goes generally the lead aways makes more but Diana kept the pay evenly. Berry also would have them go in & to lay down new tracks right after having just done a concert they were tired but Diana would persevere and the other girls would tell Berry they're tired holla back next week cause they're tired , or I'm on vacation talk to me when I'm off vacation but Diana persevered . Finally Berry told Diana we have to wait if you were on your on own your new material could be out there we could be pushing your new single if you were on your own . It was Berry not Diana who pushed her out there he convinced Diana to go solo and so she did he explained to her that the other girls are showing they don't have the drive that you are showing and they're holding themselves and you back because the don't have the same drive as you do . And because of your determination and drive you could make it to the very top if you want to, and it was Berry Gordy who pushed Diana out into a solo career and the rest is history. Now that part you rearly hear. And also it was Diana's oldest daughter Rhonda who was on a Barbara Walters special with Diana Ross and she said she is the CEO of her mom's company (s) & it was her job to see after her mother's company s well being & her mother. And she said on national TV. to Mary w Wilson , you've been messing with my mother for before I was born said Rhonda ,so Rhonda said the next time you speak about my mother in a nagtive way Mary Wilson had better be able to prove it in court because Rhonda said Rhonda was gonna best her ass (Mary Wilson ) then haul Mary Wilson's ass in court and sue her ass off for defamation of character my mother won't but I will as head of my mother's company s . So I'll ask you why Haven you heard those same vicious lies , I'll tell you it's because that's exactly what they were lies because Rhonda served notice already be able to back your sh*t up or prepare to pay for defamation.that's why! I'm just sayin!!!

Are right, he always does, and why everybody is saying R.I.P.Richard, I get all of that, but this was about The Supremes, and no one else, and when he got inducted, he would have had a fit, had other people see if they're talking about themselves, instead of him the whole time. I WILL ALSO LIKE TO TAKE THE TIME TO JUST SAY R.I.P. To both, Miss Florence Ballard, & Miss Mary Wilson, may you both rest inpeace, and your body of work, and legacy will never ever be forgotten, and show live on forever, and ever.

Im sorry, but I gotta call it like I see it. I work around a LOT of patients with bipolar disorder and other mental issues, not as severe. But everytime I see footage of Little Richard, later in his life and not when he was all "wigs and makeup and ability", I hear mania...like an UNHEALTHY mania...uncontrollable laughter and incredibly distracted and narcissistic. I love the guy..dont get me wrong. But with everything he went thru in life, from the severe abuse of a crazy Dad to all the homophobia he had to endure and navigate, I just believe he was bipolar. And Lord knows, he didnt ask for it..

@@KBB4eva uh, Little Richard was gay. I don't need you to believe my opinion...thats what Little Richard said in a number of interviews...where he's spoken about being called a sissy. And he liked saying "don't call me no sissy!...call me a rich sissy!". So, again...dont believe me, BELIEVE HIM...he admitted that he was gay in his own book. And then he backpedaled on the subject, because THATS what sexually conflicted people so, sometimes.
Saying you're NOT gay, after you admit that you are, DOES NOT MAKE YOU STRAIGHT. And marrying a woman, does not make you straight, either. I realize there are many black men out here in the World, who are clutching their pearls and getting their bra straps all twisted, when someone like Richard is called gay...but that's more about THEIR OWN STRUGGLE WITH BEING GAY AND BLACK. So, in my opinion...he's was gay. You can like it or not like it. Yo are right about one thing, tho. He was a man who had a relationship with a higher power. And hopefully the Creator didnt mind Richard wearing lipstick, high heels and false eyelashes.

When Motown 60 took place last year - Ms Ross turned up and sang a Billie Holliday song to Berry but didn't once acknowledge The Supremes. She was 10 years with Motown as a Supreme. I am sorry.
