So I thought it'd be clever to film this song in candlelight, unbeknownst to me my flip cam disagreed. So apologies for the speckles on screen. It helped my mood though haha. So if you know me you'll know that I'm a massive fan of Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films and like most of the planet a fan of Ed Sheeran too. So it made sense to cover this. Hope you enjoy. Hi Janet, my father was a famous rock and roll musician many years ago. He was the lead singer of a Canadian band called Lighthouse. His name was Bob McBride. One of the original members of Lighthouse was actually Howard Shore who wrote and produced this song. You can see him in the video with Ed. Howard used to play the saxophone in my dad’s band.

I agree with this comment, Janet, in fact I've thought so for a long time. You could certainly breathe new life into some traditional songs.

about 20 years, I was travelling around Europe to try and forget some ghosts from my past. in my travels i found a campfire and some folks singing and it's spooky, but Janet, when I listen to this song, I can feel the firelight and smell the food... it was a magical time for me!!! thanks!!!

This song was OK when Ed did it. Janet and her haunting voice have made it epic, in fact there are no words. I have listened to this countless times and get chills each and every time I her it. Her voice is hunting and inspiring and a thing to be appreciated with reverent awe.

From the smiley at the end I think you might know who he is. But in case you don't He's been called the hidden secret of the U.S.A. Dylan loved him. Kristofferson found him and gave him his start. Probably one of best singer/song writers to ever come out of the U.S. He will definitely pull your heartstrings and he will make you laugh. Like Dylan his voice might take some getting used to but his songs will move you emotionally. Check him out on You Tube.
No Problem I'm mainly a metal head/rocker too. But musically I am pretty eclectic I like a little of everything except old style U.S. country music.. But stuff like Prine, Jimmy Buffet and folk music is probably my third choice. But my #1 person to listen to is Frank Zappa.
yes in my opinion Haelstorm is the only band in the U.S. that is keeping true rock and roll alive at the moment. Seems to me Europe has it going on in the metal/rock scene though. I don't know the language, tried to teach myself and failed: however I am half German myself.

What a fantastic voice, I fell in love with your voice when I first heard your audition for the X Factor in 2011. In some ways your voice reminds me of Iris DeMent & Regina Spektor. At the time of writing I see 506 people who have a very narrow taste in music. I listen to your music over and over it's time for me to go and buy some of your albums. Janet Devlin your voice is so unique and you rock. If ever you head away in concert make sure you make Perth Australia a venue and I will be at the front of the queue for tickets. I should be positive and say "when" you head away in concert. Janet you are awesome.

You know I was searching for a nice cover of this song but I couldn't find any that was as good as the original. I believe this specific song is really difficult to cover because the lyrics are so emotional talking about a war that's raging on and a nation that has to fight, so the singer has to put all that emotion in his/ her voice. All the other covers I've heard were just nice. The interpreters had a beautiful voice but nothing more than that 'cause they all lacked the emotion. But your cover, made me shiver and for a minute (as a huge fan of lord of the rings and hobbit) I felt that I was actually inside the story facing the fires over the horizon. Your cover is my favourite 'cause you managed to pass all that emotion and you weren't just singing knowing you have a beautiful voice. So here I am again listening to this song 20 times in a row😂 Keep up the amazing work☺

I love the way how you just took the song and tried to make it a bit more Irish (or Celtic, don't judge me pls here). I would expect 100 type of covers of this song, but I would have not ever expect this, ever, and I love it, even tho I'm 5 years late !
