To all at the Comedy Hype family, I congratulate you for moving closer to One million subscribers . We last we met I told you it was coming! But I want to put this Will Smith story in perspective. We cannot make the mistake of confusing the success of the Bad Boys film as either proof of forgiveness, grace, or moving on from his egregious act against Chris Rock. I am not an old man, but not a young one either. I have been a James Bond fan since I was a teenager. It is a remarkable franchise. But be clear, it is about the franchise. Bad Boys is now a franchise spanning 20 years. We forget there was an eight, fifteen, and then four year gap between films. Hard to believe but true. All of them successful. Please remember that both Will SMith and Martin Lawrence had a series of flops before each Bad Boy film. Do we remember Emancipation? Bright? Concussion? Collateral Beauty? Aladdin? Gemini Man? All flops. The pattern is the same, when they fall off, make a Bad Boy movie. This would imply it is the franchise. If it were the actor, pre-slap, why so many flops? If Michael B Jordan replaced Will Smith (much) like the Bond movies), Bad Boys will still have made $100 Million Dollars. So let us not confuse the success of a franchise with forgiveness or not caring what Smith did.
