Hey guys! I’m Jason, employee at George and the Dragon. I’m glad that you had a good time at the Efteling! Always enjoy watching your vlogs!
I gotta correct a bit on the Titan Track story tho. The turn on which the titan track has been added is called the ‘Python turn’. Due to the high speeds of the trains through that pretty tight turn, the track started to wear more and more. We started to get more problems with that turn and that’s why they decided to change that particular part of the track to titan track. The rest will remain wooden and is gonna get a full re-track over the upcoming few years :)

Thanks for sharing. It’s great to hear that not all of the track will be changed to Titan track. Hopefully it’ll still ride great!

@@ThemeParkWorldwide I was there a few days ago, riding Joris en de Draak. Let me assure you; it is absolutely as quick and rough as it always was, in the best sense of the word. ;) I didn’t even notice the small amount of steel track, to be honest. Great fun!

Skating with chairs is a typical "old timy" Dutch thing you always see in old paintings and Anton Pieck's (Efteling's main designer in the 50's - 70's) old winter illustrations.

I will miss Het Spookslot. I'm Australian, but have dutch family. I first visited as a kid in 1992, and have been to the park about 10 times over 4 trips to Holland (the last time just after Symbolica opened). Even before I'd been, we had Efteling music and books and were in love with the place. The last time I went with my first kid. Now I have another and they're about the age I was when I first went, so I guess it's time to plan another trip! Gondoletta is a great ride if you bring your lunch. So relaxing, eating and enjoying the birds and scenery. The other disappointing thing is the Laaf monorail. When I first went on it '97, it was peddle powered, which was nicer. I guess now that it's a bit older and less used they need to be able to send off empty carts to allow people to unload.

SPECTACULAR video series! I want to thank you guys, because without TPWW, I never would have learned about this amazing park Efteling. I am including 2 days at this park during my month-long European mega-trip, and I couldn't be more excited about my stay. I'll be staying at the Loonche Land hotel. The big trip kicks off in just a few weeks! Thanks for all the awesome videos and information about Efteling - I'm already a big fan of this park, and I've never even been there yet! (And of course, I'll be vlogging everything!)

The issue with George and the Dragon was maintenance. That corner behind the station done first otherwise there wouldn't be this coaster anymore. And the rest in other years/time due to wear.

A fact about skating with a chair. This can mainly be traced back to the old days, where people did not have much money to spend, we skated on so-called botjes,( kind of a wooden shoe with irons beneath it) as young children, and to prevent accidents a chair was used as your skating parter. Nowadays no chairs are used for this anymore, but to give it a nostalgic whole, Efteling has the memories of the elderly recreated, which is great in my opinion. And again what a nice Vlog, I'm a fan!!

Glad to hear you had such a good time, Efteling is such a wonderful and magical place, I've seen all your vlogs there through the years and it's a joy to see you slowly falling in love with it over the years.
Now about the chairs om the ice skating rink. They're traditionally used in the Netherlands to help people to learn how to skate, there are 17th century Dutch painting that show people doing the exact same thing. Now in most modern rinks people use metal racks for the same purpose nowadays. However they can get quite cold due to contract with the ice so a lot of people still use chairs instead. Also a big part of the Efteling experience is the feeling of nostalgia which is probably another reason they use the chairs 'cause for Dutch people it's the way they, their parents, grandparents and great grandparents learned how to skate.
Anyway, come back soon, always lovely to have you guys over, if you ever find yourself in the city of Eindhoven (about 45 minutes from Efteling) drop by for a pint!

Basically the main reason why Efteling decided to demolish Spookslot is that the building's structural state was in a really bad condition and unfix able, even part of decorative wall on the outside, (the wall in front of the tunnel) already fell down some time ago. and it lost its popularity (until the announcement came that it would be demolished. But spookslot will not be fully gone, besides from the music and violin (which is also the name of the new attraction,) they will also re-use decoration, also aspects from spookslot will return like the sculptured toilet entrance signs will make a comeback, and part of the tower and wall which is still standing will become decoration of the new area.

Kumbak did also the trains on Python , but those only lasted for 2-3 years orso, looked cool btw... but were not so good.. what is VERY good from Kumbak however is a Darkride in the Utrecht at a museum "Spoorwegmuseum" , next time you visit The Netherlands for longer stay, and go from Efteling to Walibi ( or whatever it is called now .. lol ;) ) Utrecht is nice in between the two

@@ThemeParkWorldwide yes it is... btw Vliegende Hollander does has a "canal" made of concrete, but it is under de normal waterline of the lake... they build that after the ride was in operation because some of the mechanical things in the track sometimes needs to be cleaned etc... before when that happenend they had to almost fully drain the lake to do so.. now they drain the lake to the level of the canal and then drain the inside of the canal.
I once heard that Intamin and Mack rides both were asked to build it but neither of them "dared" to build a watercoaster that just plunges into a normal lake.

I look at Titan track positively because in most scenarios where it'll be used the park is likely looking at removing the ride altogether, but saving it with this cheaper option to update it. We'd all love to see classic woodies stay as woodies, but when parks just can't justify maintenance on them then I'd rather them invest in titan track/RMC than to call it quits or let it deteriorate to where it's unrideable. I imagine Efteling would like to save some of that maintenance money and invest it elsewhere in the years to come.

Another amazing vlog, again really enjoyed and look forward to next vlog coming up soon. Good to hear about a new hotel development here, also it looks good. Wondering if you will get a tour around this hotel nearer to completion? Be a good opportunity on their part for promotions if you do and also a good video aswell. Train journey was interesting, was it really a real life steam engine and not a diesel engine disguised as a steam engine? Especially as UK parks like to use diesel trains, but disguise them as steam trains. Prefer honestly steam engines as they have character and diesels to me don't, also when they climb hills like for example Tenterden Bank in Kent, England UK. Get some amazing shots offride at Tenterden Town and aswell onboard train when its climbing up the hill. Really worth the time & experience and visit 100%. But yeah, this video was amazing. Also about new ride, seen concept arts before and interesting ride type. Can't wait to see it in operation in future. Cheers for this video, enjoyed it and look forward to the next. 😀👍

Its sometimes and mostly now diesel run railways disguising trains as steam trains which in my opinion ruins journeys & magic of steam engines. At least at theme parks & amusement parks. Which to me is disappointing especially every time I see a train & miniature railway. But yeah good to see that Efteling use real life steam engines and not fake diesel ones. Cheers for info. 😀👍

the flying dutchman actually had a winter and summer mode, depending on the setting you get splashed more or less. they did that because its always cold here. they can run it till the pond is starting to freeze i think!

Shawn my wife and I are having a debate… is your British Theme Park Museum going to be a “museum of BRITISH theme parks” or a “museum of worldwide theme parks BASED in Britain” ?? If that makes sense!

I will try to explain 1898 to you, so you can pronounce it even a little better. So in English you say: eight-teen-ninety-eight. In Dutch you say eight-teen-eight and ninety.
If you right it out in Dutch it's acht-tien-acht-en-negentig you pronunciation of 'acht' is very good. 'Tien' is the same as the English teen but when you say 'achttien' you have to crop it some more. The difficulty is ninety in Dutch. Just like in English nine-ty it's 'negen-tig' pronounced like naygen-tig while the last g is soft. I have sent you a voice recording in messenger. 👍🏻😁
