Whilst I understand that shoots are often after a specific facial expression and look, i love those moment when the real person shows through. Seeing Lotties face light up was like the sun rising.
Peter, your eye for light amazes me. You take a photo that looks great to me, frown, move a light or flat 3 mm retake the picture and it is so much better. Your rapport with the models is so much fun to watch. When the model isn’t giving her best you make a nice little quip and the mood of the shoot gets better!
I’m not a photographer but someone who is or interested in learning about photography can learn a lot from your videos! Your knowledge of lighting, photography and “coaching” the models is a joy to watch. Thank you for sharing your expertise Peter!
I love these one light solutions when you introduce the V flat and the White Board to bounce the light where you want it, so much control over the image with subtle movements and variations, I really enjoy these shoots, thank-you so much for allowing us to watch how you work! Lottie has some beautiful expressions that come out when she slows her movements down into a more natural "drift". The results of this is the difference between the Commercial poses of the first few frames to Art, all with just a simple change in how she moves and presents herself. I think this is a really good example for us as photographers to use direction to get the image the model or client wants. Cheers from Canada - Dave
And another great tutorial from Mr. Peter. Thanks for sharing it with us. And I love the way you admitted that you have screwed up the shoot from the beginning. This is the result when you get used to work with one model only (Bec) 🙂 Best regards from Bashkortostan.
Stunning!! Very much appreciate the input about what to look for when moving a v-flat or light slightly...slightly forward or backward....every so slightly upward or downward and then we can see the difference in the next shot to compare. Very helpful! Some adjustments are very minute, but make a tremendous difference. We MUST as photographers TRAIN OUR EYES to see light and see shadows in EVERY SHOT! Once we do this, tweaking lighting makes more sense. Thanks again for this video.
Excellent video. Great to see how changing the v flats made the lighting better and the model more relaxed. And than the magic sentence about were to hang the photos made here totally unwind. The magic touch of Peter. Nice shots Thanks to the model for making this video another success.
You bring out such warmth in Lotte. She is beautiful, of course and seeing and hearing how you encourage and guide her is a delight. Your interaction with her and other models is as important as your great skill as a photographer. Thanks so much for all you offer to us. And thanks to Lotte as well.
Loved how you used the V flats! I’m totally going to start using the term “Drifting” such a great way to express that idea. Thanks for the inspiration again!
Peter! Just beautiful ….. That’s great, minimalisitic light, shooting cadence and the scenario with Lottie…. so natural. I will be happy to meet you for a Masterclass in 🇨🇭.
Wonderful video. First time dropping a comment on your channel and wanted to say I always enjoy putting your videos on in the background. I always pick up little helpful tidbits from your interactions with your models. I just shared your channel with a friend who is interested in starting her career in modeling. While I know your channel is probably more aligned to a photographer audience, I just wanted to say I think you have a wealth of knowledge for models too. I encourage you to consider creating a playlist for them. Keep up the great content!
Hi just found you, found it very interesting what l find amazing is how many people keep saying you should be use this type lens or camera lighting what l don’t understand why can’t they live and let live, every one has there own preferences to what the use and the cost of it all good on Peter lives is own life and choices you have to thread your own way in life you have to be a leader otherwise you will never get a head. Keep up the fantastic work guy’s enjoying the content. 👏👍 🍷
so true. like the drift mode. liked earlier too with key from her non-preferred side too, when her chest / stomach best demonstrate her level of fitness, and the shadow she may not like from her nose actually shows a pinch of imperfection, which is knockout.
I set my evf to monochrome. Got used to it and really enjoyed it. Got into a groove then switched to a nikon f100. Double take is insufficient to describe the momentary color shock.
Great shoot Peter! Lottie is a good model too. Thanks for sharing your shooting info, it reminds me of when I worked as an assistant years ago- I learnt so much. On another note, is the H series Hasselblad being discontinued?
back when I was shooting senior portraits for a major National chain studio years ago I noticed that almost always you can determine which side a subject favors depending on which side they part the hair. Generally this is the case. Lottie is awesome but I hope Bec pulls through and makes a full recovery. :P
@@lizw4176 and if I feel the need to ask... I typically say "Do you have a bad side?". Which side is your good side can come across that I can't determine a good side, Which side is your bad side?" reflects that I can't decide which side is worst. lol
Have you ever considered using a platform to raise the model just a bit so that you can stand straight up when you shoot? I can’t imagine the back discomfort you must feel at the end of a long shoot.
@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer It really was. He did the cover art for Duran Duran’s Rio album and was effectively the official illustrator for Playboy back in the early 80’s.
Peter is super talented. She is a beautiful woman, but I don't think they have to be. He brings the beauty out of whatever subject he's photographing. I bet he could photograph a toad and everyone would think it was a prince.
Very nice as usual. Sound like a douche, but if you run your light power next to your shoot position you could've avoided all that back n forth in the initial setup.

"PETAAAH." Love that Aussie accent.
THANK YOU, MR. COULSON for allowing us access to watching you work.
My pleasure
Lottie is a natural presenter. Great video again Peter
Many thanks

Happy to help!
Peter! Amazing what can be done with one light. Light is light. What matters if how you shape and control it! Beautiful! Thank you!
Thank you

Awesome Master Class today Peter. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
The way you were able to get Lottie to relax and get some of those shots was amazing. I particularly liked the one you posted up for a little longer.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video again. Lessons learned today : adapt your «relationship» with every model! Fondamentally important for the results :) Thanks 👏
Absolutely!
Great video, Lottie got so much more comfortable as the shoot went on and the last bunch of shots were just amazing.
Thank you

I am in awe of how just moving vflat alters lighting so much yet subtly. Thanks guys
Thanks
Love the shoot and technique with the V flats but also with energy with both of you, just works and makes for good shots naturally.
Thank you

I love this shirtless/denim jacket shot. Kirsten Dunst did one back in the day that I still remember.
Very informative video, Peter, and great to see how you use the V-Flats. And Lottie is quite beautiful.
Many thanks!

Rock on!
Un-AI-able. That’s perfect.
Awesome, very instructive. And great model, lovely.

Any time
studio essential vflats white on one side and black on the other so you can use as fill or negative fill 👍🏽
Thank you excellent study - of work in progress.
Glad it was helpful, thanks
Absolute fun !
she is so pretty
I'm curious why you shoot at F8 instead of a more shallow depth of field? Is this just personal preference or a technical reason? Thanks!
I like f8 on a medium format camera
I set my evf to monochrome. Got used to it and really enjoyed it. Got into a groove then switched to a nikon f100. Double take is insufficient to describe the momentary color shock.
LOVE IT!
Thanks
That was a very nice Bec replacement........
Great shoot Peter! Lottie is a good model too. Thanks for sharing your shooting info, it reminds me of when I worked as an assistant years ago- I learnt so much. On another note, is the H series Hasselblad being discontinued?
Thanks, Yes it is discontinued, thanks DJI 😢
Love the BTS. Who was the photographer who shot the inspiration photo? Really liked that shot.
I'm not sure the model sent it to me
Love the V flats - Can you share which plates you use. Some use PVC - which are these?

That’s so interesting to read your observation, my part is on the left and I prefer my left side! Never would have made the connection.

Awesome my dear friend ❤❤
Thank you! Cheers!
HEY, THANK YOU VERY MUCH. GREAT SHOTING. GREETINGS FROM BOLIVIA 😉📸
Thanks for watching!
Lottie You look great 🙂

na I dont have a problem
Hey Peter, are you a Patrick Nagel fan? I ask because the framed photo up high on the wall really reminds me of his work.
I don't know much about him but his work looks awesome
@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer It really was. He did the cover art for Duran Duran’s Rio album and was effectively the official illustrator for Playboy back in the early 80’s.
Another Killer shoot! Don't you get tired of hitting home runs all the time? (sorry, don't know the equivalent of an Australian home run)
Thanks it doesn't always work 😊
8:35 such great coaching!
Thank you
Very cool.
Sweet new girl!

@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer You're most welcome. Thanks for the videos.
THAT HASSELBLAD is getting worked !!!!

Peter, покажи как работать с портретной тарелкой :-) (beauty dish)
He’s done a video using beauty dishes already

Do a few more with her
I like her
yup! the A.I. is crazy stuff! it's great, till it starts clashing in Human interest's & expression's !! spam!! sorry!
Hell you have gone GREY
thats what happens when you only shoot black and white 🤣
Ne yapmak istiyorsun sdutyo orası bu kadar deneme çok fazla koy 3 ışık daha bak keyfine
Very nice as usual.
