I just picked up Ion Premier for $60 and I want to play the Shellac Records, so what needle do I need?
Please send link for the Ion

Hi Ken. A question for you. Inspired by your video I have just bought the exact same turntable for playing some 1920s/30s 78s. I'm delighted, so thanks so much for posting your video! However some of the records in my collection are the smaller diameter 7" and 8" ones (still 78 RPM) and the tone arm doesn't quite have enough travel to make it to the end of the track. Is this something you've come across and do you think it be adjusted? Best wishes, James

Hi James. Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for the kind words. It's been a while since I used that turntable but I believe there's a switch somewhere on the back where you can switch off the automatic stop of the platter once the tonearm travels so far along the record. I hope this helps, although I could be wrong. Cheers.

How easy was it to swap out needle cartridge? What low prices turntable have you found is better that plays all speeds and has built in speakers?

The best low price turntable I have found is the Victrola. I did a video on the Victrola. Swapping out the the needle to a 78RPM stylus from a conventional diamond needle was pretty easy, although the one I bought off Amazon was a bit of a loose fit. A little scotch tape to hold it in place, and it sounds great. Here is the link for my Victrola turntable video: ruclips.net/video/6aNXWC7c84A/видео.html

This is a great record player and record.
Modern vinyl 78rpm records are made today.in digital sound or if it is remastered music like Elvis Presley you get a real good sound.
Remember though modern vinyl 78rpm records can only played on modern 3 or 4 speed record players

Hi. I just purchased the same turntable. What's the sound quality like? It certainly sounds good to me.

Hi Cailean. The sound quality is okay, but I wouldn't say it's the greatest. I did an "Unboxing" video and review of this turntable when I first got it. In the video, I did a sound quality test and review as well. Perhaps you might like to check it out. The link is: ruclips.net/video/EDsX3NrBLus/видео.html

What needle did you use for the 78s? Was it hard to switch out? I have that exact record player. Wondering if I can easily switch it back and forth from 78 to 33/45.

You can buy a needle from Amazon or Ebay specifically for playing 78's. It has a gray body and it's fairly easy to switch the needles from one to the other, however I don't do that. I have a different record player for playing my 45's and LP's. I purchased that Ion turntable with the intention to only use it for playing 78's. Just make sure (if you're playing 78's), to use a needle designated for playing 78's - they require a thicker, wider needle.

Good records but sound is poor. I have an Ion turntable but I plug in good speakers and the sound is very good.
