Joker, when written properly, genuinely scares me, because you never know what he's going to do or how he's going to react. Joker is like an infection, he taints and destroys everything he comes into contact with, even for a moment.

He’s only scary because of plot armor. He’s a skinny, frail looking dude.
All those mobsters, gangsters and super powered criminals would have taken him out decades ago. Because organized crimes hate random X factors like Joker.
How did he take a big dude to the back and skin him by himself? He was just so terrified of Joker he froze up? Is Joker super strong and held him down?

  • @simonregan471

For me the value of Azzarello's 'Joker' is not that this is the deadliest or most insane Joker - we've seen that with Emperor Joker, Morrison's bioweapons-terrorist Joker, etc. It's that he feels much more like a grounded gangland 'character'. We understand how he 'works' as a criminal and you can see why some people like Johnny and Croc find him charismatic and want to work with him even though he has a reputation for being unpredictably violent. It's Joker as Dillinger or Capone.
As a note - when he gets Johnny to pass him the shovel near the start wrapped in the blanket, it's so the people following them think Joker has a shotgun.

I actually like the Joker characterization in this comic aside from the really grimdark shit that is almost too iffy and grounded for the Joker (I'm talking about what he does to Frost's wife), but that last scene where Batman goes 'to mock you' isn't great, not because the line is dumb---it actually is pretty cool. BUT. Batman would never tell Joker, known for his incredibly neurotic behavior, something that would undoubtedly piss him off while he's holding a guy at gunpoint, but he does anyway, and Joker shoots Johnny and Batman just... runs past him.
    Nice one hero.

Tbh. I could totally see this as being a spin off solo Joker movie in the universe of Christopher Nolans Batman with Heath Ledger as the Joker. Im going to accept it in my own head as Canon. Everything about this comics universe is grounded, realistic and the similarities between this joker and Heaths are strikingly similar.
Edit: Guess 2 face not actually dying in TDK would be a suprise tho 😂

The Riddler isn't showing fear, because he's likely got tricks up his sleeve but also because he's seeing The Joker as being mentally inferior to him.
Basically, he's thinking "why should I show fear to an inferior being?"
.... He also likely knew that it was only for a simple transaction and nothing more. He's doing his thing, The Joker is doing his own things. He's smart enough to not try and take from him.
It was a mix of arrogance and confidence

I like this comic because it's a much more "realistic" take on these characters and world. Besides Joker skinning Monty, there's no way he'd be able to do it that fast.

15:06 Because this time it’s a reversal of the character’s but not their behaviors, in relation to each other
Normally we’d be seeing things from Batman’s perspective and assuming Joker to be lurking somewhere plotting another unpredictable scheme
    It is awesome

@@AmusedCoffee-ym3gb - It's indeed pretty cool, I have a thing for DC villains henchmen, so one of the first things I looked up after returning from the theater after watching *SS* was to check if Joker's right-hand man who handled the minigun in the helicopter had a name...
... and I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it was ol' Jonny Jonny Frost ^_^

This is a cool story and unique art. But…sometimes you ask yourself “is this where the creator of this character imagined his character one day?” He went from surfing against Batman and laughing gas, to raping his goons ex wife and having a gangster theme. The only joker scene to me that holds origin, is Harley disguised as a gorilla so she can Tommy gun some goons

Damn thats a good story!!! If only they could get the movies this perfect and gritty/dark. I love the fact that the focus at the end was on Johnny and realizing he was never Jokers friend and what Joker actually is. We dont often see it from that perspective. We usually see things occur from Batman or the Jokers perspective.

Man I was hooked from the start. It's weird with the joker... Most of the things he say makes sense and really makes you ponder on the words.... Even though his actions are deplorable... The words still hold value. It's frustrating to love and hate a character at the same time. Makes you question your own sanity.

Omg, I been waiting FOREVER for Rob to do this story. I'm so happy you finally decided to do these OG stories while it's a little hiatus or nothing new in comics is coming out, YET. I really dig these. I hope you do That Dark Horse The Mask story that takes place years after the other ones. It's so good to hear your renowned vigor for telling how these stories went down, Rob. I swear every time he gets excited I'm dying laughing. I also saw the vid of Benny passing, and it broke me to see how it affected you, and so many other people. You guys are LITERALLY the catalysts of the comic book nerdom community even waay before the MCU. Love bro, we NEED more of these. 😂😂🤣📠📠🔥🔥🔥🥳📠📠🖤🖤❤️❤️💯💯🙏🏾🙏🏾🥹😊
