The moment the Joker took interest in him, death was unavoidable. You know as well as I do that even if he some how manage to run away changing everything from his and and look to the other side of the world, Joker WOULD find him one day and make It very messed up! And this Joker is messed up like Tommy from Goodfellas messed up.

    For me the value of Azzarello's 'Joker' is not that this is the deadliest or most insane Joker - we've seen that with Emperor Joker, Morrison's bioweapons-terrorist Joker, etc. It's that he feels much more like a grounded gangland 'character'. We understand how he 'works' as a criminal and you can see why some people like Johnny and Croc find him charismatic and want to work with him even though he has a reputation for being unpredictably violent. It's Joker as Dillinger or Capone.
    As a note - when he gets Johnny to pass him the shovel near the start wrapped in the blanket, it's so the people following them think Joker has a shotgun.

    Damn thats a good story!!! If only they could get the movies this perfect and gritty/dark. I love the fact that the focus at the end was on Johnny and realizing he was never Jokers friend and what Joker actually is. We dont often see it from that perspective. We usually see things occur from Batman or the Jokers perspective.

    It looks like Joker takes the shovel wrapped up in the blanket with him. My guess is it's a bluff. It makes the Joker look like he has a shotgun so someone following him planning on trying to kill him would think he's armed and back off. Something similar to The Godfather where Michael tells a random guy who's just there but owes his father a favor to put his hand in his pocket and act like he has a gun to scare away men passing by planning to kill his father.

    I think it was so cool how it really shows how scary Batman could be when from the point of view like an underworld person and how terrifying he can really be like in a movie where you don’t see the monster until the very end.

    I actually like the Joker characterization in this comic aside from the really grimdark shit that is almost too iffy and grounded for the Joker (I'm talking about what he does to Frost's wife), but that last scene where Batman goes 'to mock you' isn't great, not because the line is dumb---it actually is pretty cool. BUT. Batman would never tell Joker, known for his incredibly neurotic behavior, something that would undoubtedly piss him off while he's holding a guy at gunpoint, but he does anyway, and Joker shoots Johnny and Batman just... runs past him.
    Nice one hero.

    • @GDiMarca86
      @GDiMarca86 5 месяцев назад +11

      It’s because if Batman had been watching him or got intel from Two-face that Johnny was Jokers henchman, Batman figured that he made his bed and now will lay in it.
      Batman didn’t kill him, but chose not to save him.

      Yeah, I feel that most cases I doubt Batman would get a dig in the Joker while he has a hostage, unless he had a plan to save that said hostage. Also kind of reflects poorly on this Batman for letting the Joker get as far as he did when it's been known he's been observing from the distance.
      Not saying he can witness every waking moment of the Joker's antics, but feels like he'd be priority number 1 after the bodies piled up.

    Tbh. I could totally see this as being a spin off solo Joker movie in the universe of Christopher Nolans Batman with Heath Ledger as the Joker. Im going to accept it in my own head as Canon. Everything about this comics universe is grounded, realistic and the similarities between this joker and Heaths are strikingly similar.
    Edit: Guess 2 face not actually dying in TDK would be a suprise tho 😂

      If a billionaire in a kevlar bat suit tried to take out half a dozen hardened criminals at the same time hand-to-hand, he'd get brutalized. He wouldn't be taking them off the streets. If you can't suspend your disbelief and enjoy the drama over fantastical plot elements, why read comic books? Anyway, this is Gotham; the Joker's off-camera henchmen probably bribed the judge or threatened their children or some such.
