Totally AWESOME video of IDALIA, Josh! It's crazy to see how much Perry and the surrounding areas have changed over the years, I remember this area well from the Elena chase in 1985. The possible reason of this could be extremely low pressure of Idalia (940 mbar).... Also, this was, in my opinion, way worse for Big bend region, surpassing the severity of 1896 Cedar Key Hurricane...

I've heard some ramblings that the 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season could potentially be a doozy of a season?
since the SSTs/Sea Surface Temperatures & the UOHC/Upper Ocean Heat Content in the tropical Atlantic and especially in the MDR Main Development Region are at temperatures what you usually see in mid July which is blazing hot for this time of year especially off the coast of Africa
which is concerning for the 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season according to most weather experts??

Wow just finished this video and I have to say Idalia looks like it did more in Perry than Helene did.
Personally I think Idalia was a solid cat 2 impact in Perry while Helene was more low 2 maybe 1.
I believe Helene was stronger than Idalia, just that the peak winds in Helene somehow missed Perry (at least based off what I observed after Helene).
Helene was such a weird storm.
Oh and I can't wait to see your 2024 storm videos and reports!
Those will be a treat to all the wx junkies like me.

I think there's a good chance it's landfall may be downgraded to a high-end category 2 in post-analysis considering how fast it weakened and deteriorated before landfall. I never saw a category 4 come down and deteriorate that fast before landfall before.

To me it felt like a Cat 2. Not even high-end.

It's terrible to think this exact area is about to get slammed by Debby less than a year later... This is a area that hasn't been struck by a hurricane a single time since at least 1851, until Idalia.
