      You bet! It's an absolute blast to play with the Canvas settings, even adjusting things like the angle the light hits the canvas to cast shadow on the impasto, just wild stuff!

    I got the rebelle bundle, looking forward to comparing, first bundle i ever got was Corel 2019, so figured worth the upgrade. Rebelles fluid paint is cool and fun to play with and the other software was awesome. Humble bundle is where is at. I have probably purchased 20+ bundles since that time.

    I got this in the humble bundle but only installed it last week. I had version 2021 before, this one seems like a real improvement over that, pretty happy with it.

    Thank you, obviously I missed that bundle…I clicked on your link anyway and put my email in to get notifications…hopefully I catch the next one. 👏😍 I have had Corel products for over 20 years and never heard of this… was so disappointed with 2019 versions and issues I had with it crashing and the horrible customer support…. Didn’t purchase any more upgrades. Holding on for this years Humble Bundle 😊

    For 30 bucks, definitely a great deal. I still love so much about how this program works. However...
    Corel used to put out one update each edition to fix errors/etc. They did not do that this year. Also, I've heard 2022 and 2023 do not work well with the Microsoft Surface, and Corel isn't planning to fix it. Strange decisions!
    Personally, as much as I love how some brushes work in painter... I'm far more excited to see what Rebelle 7 does :).
    Also... cool painting!

    I personally love the work of Dan Milligan, he does story boards and they look so well done and it put me onto the program. But I'm working to become a concept / environment artist and I realised I'm more deliberate rather than quick, so I might just pull the trigger on this and get the program.

    I bought the cheap version about 4 years ago. I have since got it on humble. I believe I found humble because of their sales there. I have never been disappointed with anything I have gotten other than the video program. I even have their cad program. 🤷🏽💜✌🏼 Ps. I make graffiti art so I don't use it like a traditional painter. 🏴‍☠️

    Thanks for the video... I have Corel painter but 2019 but I don't use it because it doesn't have autosave and I can lose my work so I use Photoshop for that reason... Now, my question is... Does the most recent version have autosave or not yet?

  • @carlt8187
    @carlt8187 10 месяцев назад +1

    In the past I think you mentioned that Corel can get you the results that look like any media but the way to get there isn't what you would think in the real world. Or maybe that was someone else. Regardless I think there's truth to that. Incredibly deep but sometimes a bit unpredictable. I've been painting seriously with Painter for the last 3 years and love a lot about it. I've also started getting into Rebelle 5 oils and for that medium I feel that Rebelle's brushes get me to the oil look in a more straight-forward way than Corel's Thick Paint. Likely because I haven't spent that much time in Thick Paint, but also haven't spent that much time in Rebelle.
    Painter is marvelous. Every time I think some other program does something that I don't think Painter can do I am proven wrong. It just meant I hadn't looked carefully enough. My biggest concern these days is that Corel is leaving it out to hang with yearly updates a best (no updates this year; 2023 actually came out last year). So I'm making sure I have a fallback and looking forward to test driving Rebelle 7.

  • @EdanDavey
    @EdanDavey 9 месяцев назад +1

    What resolution are you running Painter at in the video? The biggest issue i think Painter has is that the brush engine is the only thing that's hardware accelerated. It's practically unusable at 4k (I have a Cintiq Pro 24) which is a massive frustration when Rebelle and Photoshop are so buttery smooth. You can override high DPI scaling which helps a tonne but would be a game changer for Painter if they hardware accelereted the UI imho.

    • @ArtOfWesGardner
      @ArtOfWesGardner  9 месяцев назад +1

      I'm only running on lowly 1080p lol, BUT I completely agree that Painter would do VERY well to make sure that any/all hardware and GPU acceleration would be active within every aspect of the program. I mean, i love gaming on my 3070, but I'd REALLY love it if Painter utilized all of it as well haha

    • @EdanDavey
      @EdanDavey 9 месяцев назад

      @@ArtOfWesGardner Ah cool. I've set Painter to override the DPI scaling (I'm on Windows so it's dead easy) so with my Cintiq at 4k Painter is running at 1440p and it's a lot better. But I can run Rebelle 7 and Photoshop at proper 4k and they're both buttery smooth even on my old 2080. Full hardware acceleration is the one thing I'm REALLY hoping the next version of Painter supports. Loved your video! I get tempted to move to Rebelle or Photoshop but Painter's brush engine is just too amazing so I put up with it. It'd also be nice if Painter rif files could be larger than 2GB but at least you can save as compressed rif. Also.... imagine of they added something like nanopixel to Painter....

    Hi Wesley, I am interested in Corel Painter Pro 2023 Ultimate. But should I wait for a new edition?

    • @ArtOfWesGardner
      @ArtOfWesGardner  5 месяцев назад +1

      I'd say go for it if it really looks like something you'd find to be worth the investment (as it IS very good), but if you're patient, you can probably get Corel Painter 2024 in October/November timeframe for about $30 as part of a Humble Bundle from Corel (as they've had the Humble Bundle sale every year in Oct/Nov since 2020). It's a fantastic deal to wait, imo, WELL worth it at the $30 pricepoint!

    I can't get any of my Painter 2023 brushes to lay down paint in a .psd. I 've repeatedly tried to deselect, despite nothing being selected. Any suggestions? Affinity Photo v2.3 works perfectly.

    • @ArtOfWesGardner
      @ArtOfWesGardner  10 месяцев назад +1

      Hey there! So I think the same thing would happen to me when I first started using the 2019 version of Painter, and one of the things I did that seemed to help was go into my settings and enable a feature to "create a new layer automatically for new media types", or something like that. Basically, I think certain brushes (like Thick Paint, Real Watercolor, anything that mimics "reality") only work on specific layer types, and simply won't make any marks if there's a mis-match of the brush used vs. the layer's settings themselves. I'm not sure this is what you may be running into, but it's worth a shot!

      @ArtOfWesGardner  11 месяцев назад +6

      Runneee!!! Yeah, I totally feel you on the Adobe stuff, I've REALLY liked the mix of CLIP Studio Paint coupled with a "real paint" program like Corel Painter, Rebelle, ArtRage, or Paintstorm. It's like the best of all worlds, without the annoying "Adobe-ness" of it all lol

    Is Corel painter or Rebelle better in your opinion at emulating traditional media? I have both but wanna try to stay with one

    • @ArtOfWesGardner
      @ArtOfWesGardner  11 месяцев назад

      Great question! So overall I think I still prefer using Rebelle, as it's easier to get used to and start painting with. However, if you really want to purchase a "lifetime of learning" in a program, Painter's a great deal. It just takes a little more effort up-front to get results you can get with Rebelle with much less fuss. You'll be very happy with either, so I'd say whichever you can get more affordably!

  • @BenjaminMarra
    @BenjaminMarra 11 месяцев назад +1

    I have Painter 2023 but haven't delved too deeply into it. I would like to bring some Photoshop paintings into it to get that impasto feel, but I wonder if Rebelle would do the trick better.

    • @ArtOfWesGardner
      @ArtOfWesGardner  11 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah, I think as far as "open up the program and get good results fast", Rebelle still outclasses Painter. That being said, after digging more and more into Painter, I can see how it can emulate ANY "impasto" software. It's like a Lamborghini, where there's almost too much power under the hood for its own good if all you're doing is standard "painterly" stuff lol

    • @BenjaminMarra
      @BenjaminMarra 11 месяцев назад

      @@ArtOfWesGardner Yes! Painterly stuff or replicating that impasto feel is definitely the goal. I noticed Craig Mullins and Justin Sweet work in Painter sometimes. Sounds worth digging deeper into it.

    Corel Painter sucks. Totally blows. i have been buying corel painter for generations.... it has too many issues with wacom drivers, unsolvable problems. Like your 75 hours into a painting and your current version suddenly starts showing black squares. Unless you constantly save duplicate copies of your files, you get to a point where your file is so corrupt its garbage, and your 75 hours of work are toast. If you DO have backups, you only lose the hours put in since your last backup. (this problem was conistent up to 2019 for me, which is when i ditched corel) At first the squares are small, random.... then you start getting more and more. Maybe they have fixed it but I ditched it due to the issues i was coming up against. Plus, it acts like a virus on your machine constantly annoying me with notification of newer versions. Must be a way to turn it off but i have not been able to find it.

      I had the same experience. I would download the demo going back decades and it would always crash within minutes. I never bought it until I got the 2019 version through Humble Bundle, but it was the same as the rest. Extremely unstable. I don't know why it works for other people but not for me.
