Regardless, it's certainly still worth it to put the fear of god in Ed if he's using psycho knuckle too much; the reward for that move on either hit or block is too good to let him do it for free.

    By the way, you can actually make them block stand heavy kick crouching from his corner safejump.
    2:18 something I've really disliked about his drive rush, it makes his drive rush very poor. Not only does it not go very far, or fast, but even if you actually connect with anything, the throw mixup game is just not as good as most other characters. You have to do stand LP, which of course scales the combo, has very low hitstun so hard to confirm as well.
    10:38 The technical reason why this occurs, is because of the difference in pushback between blocking and parrying. For regular attacks, the person attacking sits in place and the person defending gets pushed back a fixed distance. If they parried, the distance is still the same, but both players get pushed back 50% of that distance (outside of the corner.) When it comes to projectiles, the pushback of blocking a projectile and parrying a projectile is also 50%, so if you parry the snatcher, you are really just getting pulled in 50% of what it would've been had you blocked.
    11:26 There's definitely going to be an OS for this, which is why I think Ed won't be as good as people think. Technically speaking, if you see kill rush forward to try to throw, you can on reaction drive rush at them and hit your 4 frame. This is a bit tight, but it is still technically possible. It's basically a form of PP DR OS, except it's not being done right away, since the window is variable.
    15:00 Another gripe I have, specials are very weak and unsafe on block, except for OD Blitz which is very expensive. Snatcher is a huge risk, the fireball has no range, and the blitz outside of OD is very unsafe, which makes his blockstrings and frametraps very weak. It's bad enough his jabs have very poor range and can't even convert properly. If they fixed his jab, made light blitz -3 sort of like Ryu's LP Hashogeki, and improved some of his mediums to decrease the pushback on DR, he would be a very complete character even with the bad reversals. I guess lvl2 also, another thing also it's a free drive reversal if they try to do normal into lvl2. The only hope with this move I think (in terms of mixup) is going to be resets.

    1:49 just so you know, the only setup that can force an instant overhead jLK is a deep heavy jumpin vs. Burnout. Doing it on the opponent's wakeup like that is fake, and only works because the training dummy holds straight down until the frame the move connects, rather than holding down back. Even forcing the opponent to stand block during SA2 won't work, as they can immediately switch from stand to crouch block between SA2 hits

  • @RockBottom7626

    For the jab part:
    If he lands the jabs though, he gets 214MP into kill rush oki. And that leaves him plus and in jab range again.
    So in midrange a good Ed will tend to go for it for thr corner carry.
    The DI part on wakeup I wish I would have known earlier. Got rekt for it.
    For level 2 in neutral:
    If the Ed goes to aggressive one can sacrfice HP and some drive gauge with a drive reversal when you parry the level 2. The super does very little damage on its own.

    • @evilded2
      @evilded2 11 месяцев назад

      Problem with M Blitz (and H) Oki is you are only +8(+9) after kill rush and you're too close if they quick stand and too far if they back roll. In some positions you lose the threat of shimmy.

    couple things.
    if ed finishes a combo with back quarter circle medium kick in the corner, he is +44/+45 (depending on height hit, i.e medium target combo) he can get his special dash into meaty hk and get +10 to hp. however if he throws, the specail dash is only plus enough for light kick as a meaty.
    he can actually get meaty first hit fireball as +5.
    his best combo is hp ex flicker grab, early as possible light fireball into follow up, dr hp charged lk flicker, back quarter circle hp, level 3. however if he gets a situation where guarenteed punish counter. dr hp charged lk flicker combo only loses 50-70 damage and uses 1 less bar of meter.
    lp back quarter circle whilst -5 can space trap

  • @patchmuffin5248
    @patchmuffin5248 11 месяцев назад +1

    the issues i see with ed is that a lot of his strengths come from a character-specific basis. he has amazing anti-zoning tools, which rly help with guile/jp (his fireball actually beats spike as long as it doesnt hit from behind), but it wont do shit vs lily who can mindlessly ex spire on reaction. he has 6HP which crushes most lows, including stuff like juris fireball, but its not an OH and its minus without DR. however hes rly weak to more universal options. like u said hes rly weak to looping jab pressure, his normals are either rly short or slow for the longer range ones, so beating shimmies and getting a reward is harder, and his dp is rly slow making him have a harder time doing stuff like crosscutting. i can see once his gameplan evolves hes gonna revolve more around stuff like whiff punishing and playing an overall slower gameplan that isnt as aggressive.

    6:44 2LK is way way better than you give it credit for because he can convert M.DP off that move for reliable oki. Saying Ed has bad CH conversions off lights is misleading. In fact he is also a rare character who can link after CH from his 5 frame which means Ed often doesn't need to single hit confirm or spend on DR to get oki.

    I used my last rental on him and was pretty underwhelmed with his buttons. While I'm also on the "Ed seems meh" train, I'm curious if anyone will come up with a use for medium, or heavy level 2. They seemed to move way too fast to get any sort of mix, and at least with light you can do some gimmicks. You can also do some cheesy stuff like force a knockdown during it, and then dash a bunch so you save 1 hit for another strike throw, but even that seemed kind of straightforward.

    • @Raxyz_0
      @Raxyz_0 11 месяцев назад

      You can use heavy to punish some fireballs. DeeJays' heavy, Aki's poison. Ryu/Ken fireball at mid range or fullscreen as a read. It's not good though. Damage is trash and you don't get a decent conversion out of it other than just using charged heavy punch. SA2 is honestly for Desk combos only, it's trash. lol

    • @chimpmasterflex
      @chimpmasterflex 11 месяцев назад

      @@Raxyz_0 Yeah the followups didn't seem too amazing on top of the lackluster damage. Even comboing into it didn't seem too worth it. Only real situation I could think of is if you were in burnout. I find it weird how they keep implementing "combo extension" supers, but half are kind of trash and half are basically broken.

    I got so much shit for reasons I still don't get when I told people there is no way in hell Ed's lvl2 is gonna be like Rashid's lvl2.
    And that was back when I thought he would have an overhead, which apparently he doesn't.
    There is a big difference between a wall you clearly cant jump over and is almost entirely stationary and a slightly beefy normal projectile that constantly moves forward.

    To be honest, i haven't played vs many Eds (im at MR 1850ish), but the ones I've found are not really problematic. Rashid , for example, was way more gimmicky and tough to learn at the beginning. Luke is still the real issue. Even with the nerfs.

    Against meaty charged flicker I would just block it. Yeah he's plus 4, but he would be plus anyway if he just dashed up after the throw so it doesn't change anything. So the way I see it, I get thrown in the corner, I have to take a mixup. If he wants to pull me in first who cares, I'll just take my guess after blocking it.

      how in the world would you consider Ed one dimensional. i dont think there is anny other character with so manny different neutral options.
      and yes, i would say he is bad. he's bad for some really strange reasons (his ball is worse than sf5 because of its speed, he is way too - on pressure, his tether pulls you too close (this was a change in sf5 in the later seasons and was just as stupid then as it is now). i would also argue that his best anti air is too slow.
