Thank you for sharing. I’m 60 and have never considered ever eating drum and we have a lot of them in Iowa, but I guarantee next week if the river goes down I’ll be trying them. Stay safe and keep enjoying life!
@@krm944 I eat gar one of the best to eat. I found a video on here that called poor mans lobster and try it and now I am hooked on it. I like seafood. For how I cooked gar they say to do the same with drum and will be like shrimp. I will try that also .
I'm at work trying to lose weight fasting for 2 days and you are on here cooking what looks to be the best fry ever. Since I've never had either Drum or catfish I can only imagine the wonderful flavor. From the very north west of Washington I bid you a very blessed day
Hey man I just found your channel and I’m glad you and your brother remind me so much of my pawpaw and my uncle Wayne my pawpaws passed on and I miss him so much.
Have you ever heard them called poor man's lobster ? Boil filet in salty water cut into about finger size pieces and dip in clarified butter and enjoy .
I keep all the drum I catch. They are a very good eating fish. And just like you said the meat is firmer unlike a channel catfish where the meat is flaky. 👍 on the video
Thank you for sharing. I find blue catfish cooked fresh are softer in texture. If I put them in the freezer a couple weeks, they are “firmer”. I thought I was crazy and tried it side by side. Everyone is different, but my favorite is catfish after they have been frozen a couple weeks
Yessir!!. Drum is a very good eating fish. I like the firmness of the meat, too. Get a big drum or carp and fry up the ribs. Very tasty and the big rib bones seem to add to the meat. Thanks alot for this video.
At Three Rivers of Louisiana, the drum work out everyday. During the Spring floods, the Drum have the most flavor. The US CAJANS stew them in a Courtboullion. That is a fish SMOTHERED in vegetables in a butter sauce. Tre` Manfique, weh!
I found out by someone years ago that as soon as you get them, you put them on ice right away . Before I did not and they did not come out well when I clean them . Till someone I talked with told me that you need to get them on ice right away . After that no more problems. I am in Iowa and get them on the Miss. River .
I fish along the Texas coast, and fresh water drum looks just like Redfish & Black Drum (both inside and out), and both are a firm meat. All are great frying fish, but with the Reds and Big Uglies (Black Drum) you only want to harvest the smaller/younger ones as they get gamey and full of worms.
I caught a mess of Drums up in the Wolf river in Wisconsin and people were asking me if I was using the meat for cut bait. I told them I was going to eat them and they couldn’t believe that I would eat them. They simply had no idea what they were missing out on. I talked to the man at the bait shop and he agreed with me. He said a lot of people fish purposely for them in the cold water. Thank you for sharing the video with us just wished I could have had some of that fish to eat, Lol :)
Just found your channel y’all look so familiar to me. I’m in Alabama worked on the road a good bit outta different locals I’m out of local 505 Mobile Alabama.
I just use the cheaper models from Bass Pro. Cost around $50.00. I get the frying outside vs. in the kitchen. Do it outside. So much better. Thank you for watching.
I live on the Tennessee river at the Guntersville Dam in northern Alabama I knew an old time trotline fisherman who was fishing that river before the dam was built in 1934 and he told me that before the dam was built and before they backed the water up that drum was a very tasty fish and they were excellent for eatingBut after the damn Was built and backed the water upthe water up he said it ruined the taste of them
well ill try almost anything once.i have cought my share .but now ill keep the next one been wanting to try long nose gar i here ther good but dont let them sit .i here they get chewey.
I love watching your channel. Just want to get a shout out to all the people that view your videos, but have not subscribed. Everyone help get this channel over 5000 subscribers. No reason for this channel not to have over 100,000 subscribers.
Where do you live that a 6lb Drum is big? I was at a power plant near Nashville and caught one over 50 pounds. I released it and didn't realize I had a possible world's record.
They grow huge here in the Sip too. It's a fish that tastes the best right out of the grease. Once it gets cold you can definitely tell the difference. Catfish is the better-tasting of the two in my opinion.
I think a lot of the various drum flavor may be a reflection of the kind of water they come from. I've heard others say they thought it was not good. But our experience here is very positive. Thank you for watching.
Drum in cold water is really good they get oily in hot weather good eating they have stone's in there head that look like pearls
Thank you for sharing. I’m 60 and have never considered ever eating drum and we have a lot of them in Iowa, but I guarantee next week if the river goes down I’ll be trying them. Stay safe and keep enjoying life!
Ever tried Gar? One of the better fish I’ve tasted is a smaller (30 inch) long nose gar.

We always keep the smaller ones. Seems like the ones over 8lb get real strong tasting.
I really appreciate you sharing that my friend! I will be keeping drum from now on!

Thank you and thanks for watching from Washinton.
Thanks again for another great taste test.

Hey man I just found your channel and I’m glad you and your brother remind me so much of my pawpaw and my uncle Wayne my pawpaws passed on and I miss him so much.
Sorry to hear about your Papa. Thanks for watching.
Freshwater drum probably tastes like our redfish and black drum down here on the Ga Coast. Good job on the taste test.
You’re right, you’re making me hungry watching this !
On the drum dont forget to pull the Lucky Stones out keep them in your tackle box .
I Love Freshwater Drum! It Tastes Much Better If You Cut The Red Meat Strip Out! Enjoyed It! Glad I’m Subscribed!! ✝️✝️✝️
next time you catch a drum cut in 3/4" x3/4" x2" and boil in oldbay or shrimp boil until it just floats poor mans shrimp
Sounds good . What is the ratio of old bay and water?
Have you ever heard them called poor man's lobster ? Boil filet in salty water cut into about finger size pieces and dip in clarified butter and enjoy .
Yes. I will try that sometime. That sounds awesome! Thanks for watching.
5-6 lb drum is fine table fare in the spring and early summer. It's almost like eating a chicken strip.
I keep all the drum I catch. They are a very good eating fish. And just like you said the meat is firmer unlike a channel catfish where the meat is flaky. 👍 on the video
It would be the same as eating redfish which is in the drum family. We put it in a red gravy in Louisiana very good eating fish.
Saltwater drum and freshwater drum taste very different.
Thank you for sharing. I find blue catfish cooked fresh are softer in texture. If I put them in the freezer a couple weeks, they are “firmer”. I thought I was crazy and tried it side by side.
Everyone is different, but my favorite is catfish after they have been frozen a couple weeks
Love blue catfish but none here where I do most of my catfishing, just channel cat. Thanks for watching.
How do you know when it's time to change your oil?
I use it about 4-5 times. It must never get above 425 degrees. It will burn and its over. I always strain it as I reuse it. Thanks for watching.
Everyone says drum is trash fish but your 💯 right. Some really good eating fish. Always keep my drum when im keeping fish.

Drum is also good smoked or pickled
Ive eaten many of them as a teen and young man. We used to catch them in their spring run up in the backwaters of the Ohio river. Fine eating fish.

What propane stand/burner do you use? I want one! My wife doesn’t like me frying in the house.

I’m going to have to make time to go cat fishing. Nothing tastier than a fresh caught fresh cooked catfish and or drum

Tried to catch a gar yesterday. Will do a taste on one. Never ate gar before but will soon.
Have you ever tried a electric knife?? Just curious
Yes. Not a fan but still have one. Will use it from time to time.
gotta know how to cook it all
Momma and daddy eat them all the time when I was young
Nice drum. Do you take out the ear bones and the teeth of the drum? Grandkids might enjoy that.
I take the rocks/pearls in the head out. They are pretty cool Thanks for watching.
@@meandyououtside They are neat!
I'm 63 and never caught one or a gar

I've tried to eat them , they tasted like the dark meat I trim off the catfish

No way drum is better than catfish I use em for cut bait 🥹🤢🤮 nope
Not better than catfish but still good to eat from these waters here.
HELL YES CATFISH IS ALOT NETTER FAR. Eating drum is like chewing on a truck tire YUCK. 😂😂😂😂😂.
