Excellent video. It is important that we understand the effects of different ammunitions, in terms of penetration and damage done to different surfaces. A lot of folks have no idea about what a bullet can do, as opposed to what they think it should do. if you carry a firearm you should understand the capabilities of your weapon.
The person in the Dino suit has developed certain intricacies and defining traits that completely reveals the empathic journey this Dino surely wishes to embark on with us.

@@MOTO809 also does nobody realize how a windshield in every single vehicle on the road works? It has a thin layer in between two sheets of glass to stop the window from exploding in the event something hits it. Yea that area might or will but the rest of it won't.

A ballistic gel vid about the 3 big weapons , might be a bit geeky, but comparing the wound channels would be interesting. BOOM! Oh yeah, can you get .700 holow point? :-)
The wound channels would be pretty interesting to see, but probably fairly predictable results. Just as has been shown with varieties of 12 gauge rounds, some will dump the energy quicker, while others go deeper. As I did say, would still be interesting to see the actual comparisons, but as with the glass here the larger/heavier round delivered more force with less depth, while smaller delivered it slightly deeper. As for this test, I'm fairly certain the 700 did "poke" into the second panel, then slightly bounced or rebounded back into the 1st. Regardless, the energy transfer into the back panels was still impressive to say the least.
There might need to be a correction to your statement as to the largest elephant rifle. My father worked as a vice president of an importing arms company when I was growing up, and as such I grew up with all sorts of gun industry people coming to the house for various reasons. One such guest happened to have started out working for Holland and Holland in the late 40's after the war and regailed us with a story of a project he was involved in. It seems a young English aristocrat that had been a big game hunter before the war, went on to serve in the British Army and was introduced to a 20mm anti tank round and had the brilliant idea that it would make a great elephant round, what with it being available in armor piercing and all. After the war ended this young man, who seemed to have larger anatomy between his legs than his ears, commissioned H&H to build a double rifle in 20mm Lahti, while they HIGHLY discouraged this, they relented when enough money was thrown their way with the caveat that they would NOT test fire the rifle and that the young man was SOLELY liable for it as such. So the fateful day arrives when he comes and picks up the gun and they didn't hear anything back for almost a year until one day the young man comes back, walking with a cane, and explains what happened. It seems that he actually fired it off a bench with just some serious bruising but otherwise just fine, loading just one barrel at a time. Well, the young man takes the rifle to Africa, and for the first time, loaded both barrels with his new favorite rounds. It seems another hunter in his party had wounded a bull elephant and the bull turned on their group and charged them all, in his haste to dispatch the now VERY pissed off elephant, the young man accidentally pulled both triggers of his double barreled 20mm elephant rifle. He said the young man woke up in a hospital about 2 weeks later with a broken shoulder, crushed ribs, collar bone, cheek bone, rt eye socket and had fractured 2 vertebrae in his neck, not to mention the fractured skull. The gun held together fine, but the recoil from 2 20mm going off at once was a bit to much for a mere mortal to handle, but to his credit, the charging bull was stopped in his tracks with 2 20mm holes, one just above the other, in his head with actual exit wounds out the back of his neck. Moral of the story, when a gun builder tells you your idea is a bad one, just walk away.
The viewers are correct about the glass. Especially on military vehicles the glass goes a certain way because on the outside of the bullet resistance glass is a layer of normal vehicle glass that acts as a sacrificial layer against rock chips and just one extra thing standing in the way before anything actually impacts the bullet resistant stuff. I know this first hand because when I was in the military I broke the sacrificial layer and I freaked out thinking I'd owe Uncle Sam a couple thousand dollars, turns out it's like a $20 glass window and like $7 in glue.

06:37 - This had me flinching..... Gently put the glass back... GENTLY!!! Lets the glass drop onto the second pane and a massive glass cloud is made and that stuff can get everywhere from your skin to right into your eyes.
Fun trivia: In the early days of WW1, the Germans used steel plates to protect themselves from British fire, so the British took a bunch of elephant guns and pressed them into service, which were able to punch through them. They later evolved into the anti-tank and anti-material rifles we all know and love today. EDIT: Now I'm wondering if someone makes Xtreme Penetrator rounds for .700 Nitro Express. I know .50AE hollow points don't go through 3A body armor, even though it will cause a ton of backface deformation, but .50AE Xtreme Hunters from Underwood will.
Someone made extreme penetrator for 12 gauge, which is nearly right for a 700 calibre (see taofledermous video), but they ain't LeHigh manufactured so you can't actually buy them. maybe if enough people want them, LeHigh will start making them ! BTW: the rounds went through 3x IIIA vests from a shotgun, so i'm guessing even better through an elephant gun.
The first anti-material rifle was invented by the Germans in 1916 and came to service in early 1918. They invented it because the normal rifle bullets didnt go through the tanks amour. Therefore it got the name „Tankgewehr M1918“.
@@HUNDEK0PF420 Which literally stands for "Tank Rifle". The Germans didn't have a word for tank in till the late 30s/earlier 40s (Panzer) so they just copied the British and called it "tank"
The reason the plastic is in the back is because the glass is made to break up the bullet first, and the plastic is made to catch the pieces of bullet. It also helps when driving a armored vehicle, you wont get covered in glass shards
I just want to say thank you to Scott for buying this gun. They are incredibly expensive and not to mention ammo for them. But to really see a 700 NE in action on your channel is a real pleasure! Thanks for going the extra expensive mile for your viewers!
Should we be worried that Tactical T-Rex is showing anomalous abilities to open a portal to a pocket dimension, pull out a random firearm or other object, and try and attack Scott? No? Okay.

tbh it was a reality trip we were all very happy he survived and to be more careful in it's wake shows us even the experts continue to learn (the good ones anyway) here's to many more years of salad rain!! best wishes to all
Exactly. The 600 Nitro Express was your last chance to survive when out hunting smaller game and finding yourself facing a pissed off, charging bull elephant. The guide who my Grand Father hired [IIRC it was Harry Selby] when he went hunting in Africa in 1951 always carried one when in the bush, so I was told as a wee lad. MY GF took his own 600 to take a trophy bull. He succeeded. Very effective skull penetration, which is the key. A properly aimed head shot would drop the beast instantly with no worry he was just temporarily stunned. Story was that a 700 NE was difficult to impossible to fire accurately due to the recoil.
As the video progressed, I was surprised ... nay ... shocked ... that no tables were harmed during the filming of this episode. But then we got to the last 90 seconds and that feeling quickly subsided. You see, several years ago, I bought stock in Kentucky Table Manufacturers, and I've been reaping huge dividends ever since. Market tanked after the 50-BMG exploded, but we're back on track now.
That intro was a little sketchy. Technically, dinosaurs were not lizards. It mostly comes down to the nature of their hip joints. There is also speculation that dinos may have been warm blooded. But they were well known car jackers. You were spot on with that.
Surprising to me that the 700 Nitro's large surface area is what saves the glass, even though the transferred energy broke the panes behind the first. Very cool video! Also, after some quick googling I saw that bulletproof glass can be designed symmetrically or asymmetrically so depending on your panes bullets are designed to be stopped from a single direction.
Wow, I wasn't expecting those results; bulletproof glass is tougher than I thought! However, that 700 Nitro Express delivered one hell of a punch; that would make quite a mess of anything fleshy! 😆
The 700 has way less penetration than I would have expected. I guess it makes sense with the increased surface area/weight of the bullet vs the powder behind it. I'll bet the steel jacket is necessary to get what the penetration it does. to be extra fair though, the 458 was a brass solid, not lead with 2 jackets. I love these elephant gun videos. Since no one ever shoots a 700 nitro, the gun community is getting very valuable information from your videos. 👍
I really think the rounds don't matter, the problem in this case is that it's just glass sitting on a table, mount that in a wall or car door where it can't just fall over and those pieces of glass would stand no chance against it. I'm not a bullet proof glass expert, but I know just enough about physics to know that the way the glass fell over took off tons of pressure (literally.)
.950 JDJ is not an elephant gun cartridge and would be hugely impractical as one, given that a rifle chambered in that caliber weighs at least half of what an adult man weighs. Good luck shouldering that.
I don’t really care WHAT you shoot….as long as it doesn’t involve military surplus ammo from decades ago. That leaves you plenty of options, but I get a little nervous in the service watching you do this stuff now.
Scott you and I shared many mutual friend in Murray, KY. Karl and Kayla in particular. We’ve had a few beers together during those glory days. I had no idea that this had happened until I ran across your channel on FB. I’m glad you’ve made a full recovery and hope you continue to be safe doing what you clearly love to do. I’ve liked and subscribed brother. Love the tattoo.
Hi Scott, glad to see your on the mend mate, please go careful breathing in glass dust, I was a glazier for 30years plus. Our bulletproof glass in the UK is 32mm thick made up of different laminated pieces and thickness. Keep up the great work from a Kenfolk in the UK 🇬🇧 👍🏻
This channel's slogan should be something like "Kentucky Ballistics: Stupidly large bullets are best." I start watching every video thinking 'Is THIS the one where Scott breaks his shoulder/wrists?'
The glass, already being fractured, acted much like sand grains. The forces at the impact point had much more surface area to dissipate energy into. Successive shots through laminated glass are never mere successful unless the amount of glass left in a given area has been depleted or their frame work has given way.
I think you missed some key facts. The 458 and 500 rounds were solid brass and skinnier. The 700 was copper jacket, steel jacket underneath and lead core(from what I can find) not solid steel plus thicker. The last shot went what looked like the same distance as the first shot, even thought the glass was fractured already and acting like sand as you said. 700 round was fatter and softer than the other bullets and mushroomed and lost energy quicker. Your explanation to me, I'm for sure no scientist, doesn't make sense to me. In my simple mind, the more you shoot bullet proof glass the weaker it gets. From all the videos I've seen at least. It could be a factor though.
@@jasonkerekesch5012 The .458 also has about 300 FPS speed advantage. The round is skinnier.....the sectional density is a bit higher at I think .341 vs .293 for the .700 round. When you have both higher sectional density and velocity the difference in penetration on hard surfaces can be dramatic.
@@jasonkerekesch5012 it gets weaker as you chip away but the sand thing still applies. It gets a little better at negating force then eventually you chip away enough that you just go straight through
You probably wouldn’t even have to fire it. Anyone with an ounce of self preservation instinct would take one look at the thing and run for their life.
The only thing I'll say is when shooting into the broken glass, its less sturdy in a way, it bends more and absorbs more energy. I doubt the results would of changed much though. Love the video!!
Hi. I'm new to the channel. Love the big boomers. I recommend getting your hands on a. 460 Weatherby. Ballistics all the way up to 8000 pounds of energy. Not far from the 700NE, and a hell of a lot cheaper to shoot.
@@nicolatesla768 That would make tons of gun channels felons because so many people are using AP rounds for the .50 BMG. I'm not saying you're wrong; I'm just saying that there's got to be more to the story than that.

Source?
@@buckberthod5007 yeah that true, forgot to mention it. Btw im german :)
Man, you don’t even need to apologize. I’m genuinely just happy to see you doing well, and back at what you love
Hell yeah
The reason the plastic is in the back is because the glass is made to break up the bullet first, and the plastic is made to catch the pieces of bullet. It also helps when driving a armored vehicle, you wont get covered in glass shards
5:08 nice truck bro.... 👍
I just want to say thank you to Scott for buying this gun. They are incredibly expensive and not to mention ammo for them. But to really see a 700 NE in action on your channel is a real pleasure! Thanks for going the extra expensive mile for your viewers!

Literal knockdown power on that 700 NE! That’s impressive AF
Bet walmart is like "hey, table guy is back, bring his tables out"
Costco actually by the looks of the brand.
That intro was a little sketchy. Technically, dinosaurs were not lizards. It mostly comes down to the nature of their hip joints. There is also speculation that dinos may have been warm blooded. But they were well known car jackers. You were spot on with that.
Have you ever seen a chicken eat a mouse? There's what happened to your dinosaurs. They became delicious.
Oh, but it's okay for you to call them lizards as long as you say it in Greek? ("Dino-sauros" = "terrible lizard")
Wow..your so smart and funny.. can i post you on r/iamverysmart
Single best comment I have ever read! Bravo lololol
"It shoots this right here."
*holds up the single largest bullet I have ever seen*
Might want to check out 950JDJ or 20mm ;)
Look up the old-school Punt Gun (40mm dia bullet!) that was used for hunting
This is all great stuff lol
In fairness it wasn’t solid brass like the other rounds…
Yeah, it mushroomed a ton.
I think it being so close skewed the results. The bullet didn’t have time to get up to speed.
@@DGTH1992 you're kidding right?

"World's biggest elephant gun"
.950 JDJ: "Am I a joke to you?"
.950 JDJ is not an elephant gun cartridge and would be hugely impractical as one, given that a rifle chambered in that caliber weighs at least half of what an adult man weighs. Good luck shouldering that.

Scott's the kind of guy to buy every elephant gun just so no one can hunt elephants
The gun doesn't break Scott's shoulder, Scott breaks the guns shoulder.
Hey Scott glad to see that you recovered from the 50.cal explosion
now you have one H---L of a mess to clean up - hope no one goes bare foot on that range
The glass, already being fractured, acted much like sand grains. The forces at the impact point had much more surface area to dissipate energy into. Successive shots through laminated glass are never mere successful unless the amount of glass left in a given area has been depleted or their frame work has given way.
Because science.
Yeah, and it's already broken too.

Shooting the cabbage at point blank was funny, but then the execution of the table looked pure psychopathy lmao
The only thing I'll say is when shooting into the broken glass, its less sturdy in a way, it bends more and absorbs more energy. I doubt the results would of changed much though. Love the video!!

Those will also work! I was mainly intending it to be an even comparison to the other two rounds he shot that did penetrate the first piece of glass.
