You and Alphonso Dunn are my two favorite instructional artists! Very cool to see that you 'know' each other too. I got Alphonse's book the day it came out.
This is the best art book I have in my collection. Alphonso Dunn's approach includes so many factors not covered in most other places, yet keeps it all so accessible. It's a very intelligent approach. I love this book and his teaching.
I follow Alphonso Dunn and purchased his book a few weeks ago. I quite enjoyed that it was such a large book written with such simple text and lots of white space. It left me feeling that my brain had time to comprehend what he was trying to explain even though some of it was short and sweet. It will be a very treasured book for me because I have watched Alphonso grow and become such a wonderful young man. I am excited to see both of you doing well:-) Thank you so much for all of your work!
Thank you for reviewing Alphonso's new book. I have been a fan and follower of both yours and his for a few years now. His course is available on youtube.
Love your great review of this great book by an even greater man. Sadly hes in trouble because this book has been plagiarized by Jake Parker the inktober schmuck. I urge anyone who enjoys this book to support Alphonso Dunn during this time and watch his most recent video.
@@EckosamaGhostTsushima To tell everyone to use the Inktober hashtag, then copyright the word, does not give him ownership over art produced by other individual people. Maybe everyone should just make up their own prompts and not call it inktober anymore. Let him be the only one with inktober art. Are artists not supposed to create in October anymore?
Thank you Teoh. I subscribed to Alfon's channel too and was contemplating if I should buy this book. After watching this video I decided not to. I enjoy his video tutorials immensely; his personality and the way he brings his points across are very effective and inspiring. I'd sometimes pause the videos to note down the things he says. I may be wrong but I think this is what the book's missing. Like you, he's very generous in sharing his experience and knowledge to help others. I have great respect for artists like that.
HI :) Thank you for the great review. This is a strange question, but are there any anatomy sketches in this book? I ask because I have an artist friend who has almost completed their time in jail, and is in the process of regaining their life. They are only allowed an ink pen to draw with. I can send a book directly from Amazon to the jail, but nudity is strictly forbidden in any book and they will refuse it. Is there anything like that?
@@sheikhspeare6637 Hi :) She is out of jail and left the state with her boyfriend. They got married and had a baby boy (Japser). I haven't tried to track her down lately, (I need to get in touch and get an update), but she is most likely drawing. Once an artist, always one. right? Thank you for asking! :)
Hi! Love your videos and reviews. Alphonso is also great. I'm picking up his book through your link as a thank you to both of you for your selfless sharing of your knowledge. I very much appreciate it. Along with Alphonso's book, what other book would you recommend for the absolute beginner? Thanks again!
+Rich F I get that question a lot. lol. My favourite beginner's book is 'Keys to Drawing', a book that I still refer to even today. If you need more books, check out this list at www.parkablogs.com/content/best-how-sketch-and-draw-books
You should do more reviews like this on the Parka Blog channel, especially for instructional books. It's really helpful. I read the blog as well, but it would be nice to be able to put the video on in the background then if I hear something I'm interested in, check it out.
+Alan's Art Log Oh, Parkablogs channel only has the silent videos. Creating video reviews like this takes time which is why I don't do it over at Parkablogs channel. Behind each video, there are often a few retakes before I am satisfied with the video.
hi teoh, just wondering will you be selling some of your second hand books, im a student and sometimes art book can get pretty pricey sometimes. i love this book however basheer sells them at about 30?
I sell some artbooks occasionally at www.parkablogs.com/content/books-sale-singapore-only But not this Alphonso Dunn book. Usually Basheer will give around 10-15% off the sticker price. You got to ask. Not sure what they don't just use the final price though. It's a good book. Worth the money.

It makes more sense, since Jake Parker said he read the book before, and jake parker said he copied the ending of a hellboy comic for his missile mouse comic. he might think its NOT a big deal since he does comics, and copying layout is actually quite common! This is more accessible for beginners. The other book is a bit more technical but more comprehensive and detailed.
