Byner at his best! The lines/scene is great but NOBODY could play this like John! Just watched again. I could mentioned my favorite lines but I'd wind up writing the entire scene.
i agree. It's a mystery to me why he didn't get better roles, other than these guest appearances. I read somewhere he was offered the role of Mork from Ork on happy days, but turned it down. Who know where his career would lead from that if he took the part?
3:51 Central Park West 32% Bus Stops. The rest is One Hour Parking. 7th Ave. and Broadway No Parking between 7AM-7PM. 75th St. you've got your schools on No Parking. You got your church on the corner. 75th St. Alternate Side of the street parking, you've got to move your car every morning at 7AM. You want to hear the East Side now? Anyone who knows the entire NYC's parking regulations and locations like Byner undoubtedly deserves a plaque in the Department of Transportation. Is there an NYC parking employee who has the same fundamental protocols as John these days? Just a thought.
If you look up the Odd Couple Outtakes clip, this scene is in there…Byner delivers the “Hey-parking is my life! Gimme a street, I’ll give ya an ordinance!” line, kinda soundin’ like Snagglepuss, and Jack starts laughing, and receives a mock scolding from Tony: “Bad boy! Bad, bad, bad!”
You right, yis"ll be back. I had play it back too see and got my laugh. And Oscar says " 250 a month, I get my car 3 rooms and a bath. LOL, Classic N.Y. 70's sarcasm.
I always liked John Byner. He's a trip! This episode with him had me laughing my butt off! The 70s, in my opinion, was the best time for music, tv, movies, drive-ins, and fixing up cars from the 60s. My friend Steve had a '68 red Chevelle, Mike had a '67 yellow Camaro with black stripes, Al had a '66 dark blue Mustang, and I had a 69 orange Cutlass. It was great time to be a teenager!
One of my favorite lines here and, at the end of the scene (I'm laughing again) Felix and Oscar walk out and Byner goes over to the door and yells toward them "You's 'll be back, you's 'll be back on your knees like my mother!"
Jack Klugman died 6 years ago Christmas Eve. He is so missed! He was one of the most Brilliant actors to ever grace the stage and screen. I loved this show. The best Oscar Madison of them all! I loved him in the 4 episodes of the Twilight Zone he was in. He and the late great Burgess Meredith are the only two actors to do 4 Twilight Zone episodes and both are worthy. Anyone who does not know Jack Klugman, watch A Passage for Trumpet, Game of Pool, Death Ship and In Praise of Pip! And you will be watching an extraordinary actor!!!!! Jack you are so missed!!!!!
I'm a huge fan of Jack as well. I also admire his honesty and non bs he shows in his interviews (Tony Randall was the same way) he told it like it is and was an amazing Oscar and he was great on Diagnosis Murder episode and Quincy ME too
jack Klugman also had his show Quincy M.E. great great show crime drama and many many great guest and special guest appearances . and co cast members that were regular great actors and actresses .
a pure classic. klugman and randall won three emmy awards between them during the shows five year run. that was quite an accomplishment going against carroll o'connor and alan alda. whose shows were in the ratings. loved both shows. m.a.s.h and the odd couple are my two favorites of all time.
Anachronisms that stand out today: 1) Parking space in Manhattan for just $200/mo 2) Multi-bedroom apartment in Manhattan for just $250/mo 3) $4 Cab ride for 10 blocks. What hasn't changed: 1) Street parking in Manhattan is a nightmare and you pay through the nose for garage parking. 2) Underground market for biz that doesn't match "advertised price".
You'll rarely if EVER see unbiased, well written, non PC scenes like these and the other older shows had. Today it's all about scripted reality tv, no writers, just activists trying to make their agenda of skewed morals appear mainstream. Read Mark Dice's book Hollywood Propaganda, it explains it all very clearly.
Great performance! classic scene! The best way ever to convey the agony of NY Parking! John Byner nailed every part of the scene! The typical New York attitude when they got you buy the balls!
I was thinking that most people probably don't appreciate the brilliant parody he's doing. Everyone who's from New York has dealt with THAT GUY back in the day. Auto mechanics, parking lots, repair shops..
we miss the odd couple marathons they would air for 2 days in a row every episode from start to finish . they would air them news year eve and news years day back to back and the many many many great actors and actresses that have passed away and the regulars of the cast to . R.I.P.. on channel 11 WPIX new York then news 10 and 55 net work this is real true blue comedy that will never ever die better then todays trash T.V.
"Allright, park it with the dented fender facing the wall." Hilarious. So the guy getting into his car won't notice the dent until after he leaves the garage and can't blame them.
ABC repeatedly imposed network personalities on TOC. John Byner was about the only one who actually worked. He had the comic chops to play with Tony Randall and Jack Klugman.
Hilarious. Hey be easy with that car that one mines...Most of my names are inherited, what should we do? Check the obituary's...wait for it, wait for it. Ok $200 and that's the same price "I Charge My Mother" Felix said you shouldn't charge your Mother. He got up like um ass kicking time, Don't talk about me Mom
Someone help me out here, at 50 seconds, what the heck is that on the wall in the back area over Klugman's left shoulder? Looks like a pair of underwear on the wall?
John Byner absolutely steals this scene. His delivery is impeccable. The show’s best ever guest spot.
Byner at his best! The lines/scene is great but NOBODY could play this like John! Just watched again. I could mentioned my favorite lines but I'd wind up writing the entire scene.
John Byner was a Standup GENIUS !!!!!
This is a perfect scene. Every line is hilarious. The gold standard 🥇
What an absolutely great performance by John Byner,,,,still cracks me up to this day.
i agree. It's a mystery to me why he didn't get better roles, other than these guest appearances. I read somewhere he was offered the role of Mork from Ork on happy days, but turned it down. Who know where his career would lead from that if he took the part?
Byner is brilliant. Great whit!

YES !!!
They don't make comedies like this anymore. Classic.
Best last line of any scene in any Odd Couple. And John Byner was just great here.
Byner, Klugman and Randall. You know this was one of those scenes where the whole crew was smiling throughout the filming.
Yeah
If you look up the Odd Couple Outtakes clip, this scene is in there…Byner delivers the “Hey-parking is my life! Gimme a street, I’ll give ya an ordinance!” line, kinda soundin’ like Snagglepuss, and Jack starts laughing, and receives a mock scolding from Tony: “Bad boy! Bad, bad, bad!”
One of the best scenes in the series. We still quote it. lol
John Byner was classic in this whole scene! "you'll be back begging on your knees like my mother was" lol!
Don't say anything about his mother. Let's leave personalities outta dis.
Yous'll be back.
This episode is absolutely hysterical!
Soo New York!
it was Tony's idea for John to say "y'iz'll be back!" ...it was originally "you'll be back!"
In the outtakes from this episode Jack K could not stop laughing at Byner. Classic scene
Love how Byner nailed the NY patois - "Yis'll be back!"
You right, yis"ll be back. I had play it back too see and got my laugh. And Oscar says " 250 a month, I get my car 3 rooms and a bath. LOL, Classic N.Y. 70's sarcasm.
On your knees, like my Mother
This entire episode is a classic, starting with Oscar claiming he won the car but Felix answered the radio questions.
Something else by Verdi
@@Shambar18 love it. It’s amazing we can quote lines from shows 50 years old but I couldn’t tell you one thing from a show in the 2000s
“I want you to stop beating up my charts”
I have think New Yorkers who own cars can appreciate this episode.
Oscar was so thick he thought there was an opera called "Aïda of Course".
John Byner is absolutely funny!
Love the dialogue here.
Whose the parking attendant??
Byner is fantastic here!
“Don’t say anything about my mother” 😂😂😂
Just the best ever.....I've watched this so many times and still laugh out loud....
Whenever I think of the "Odd Couple", this is the scene that comes to my mind

this was the best...yuz'll be back, yuz'll be back beggin on your knees like my mother was...so NY
True classic comedy
I had a 71 Plymouth satellite like Oscars, lol, this was a great show.
The best line was “Will this get us anything? Sure, two fives.”
One of my favorite lines here and, at the end of the scene (I'm laughing again) Felix and Oscar walk out and Byner goes over to the door and yells toward them "You's 'll be back, you's 'll be back on your knees like my mother!"
Will this get us anything? Yeah 2 fives! Classic!
The Odd Couple!!.....loved those old shows!.....aahh......this is comedy!!

OMG YES! A Game Of Pool is legendary-Jack Klugman an’ Jonathan Winters!
Dont forget 12 Angry Men...a small but memorable role.
Classic. "...puddles."

felix is the original Sheldon Cooper!!! LOL
“I never met a guy who knew so much about parking.”
“Hey - parking’s my life!”
Funny!!!
John byner is still a great actor
Is he still alive?
Still remember watching this scene years ago and cracking up watching it now as I did then! Thank you so much for posting it!
Best cameo ever by far on the Odd Couple....Aside from Albert Brooks as Rudy the sleazy ad executive. But I digress....

One of the best scenes in the entire run 😂😂
Great episode!
Oscar was so cool!
Excellent, thanks.
Park it with the dent facing the wall!
If you live and work in Manhattan, the most useless thing to own is a car. This Odd Couple episode proves it.
LeftyPlaysRighty If you visit NY, don't rent a car. Your trip will be wasted looking for parking.
Absolutely.
$250 I can get the car 3 rooms and a bath ah old New York.
@@meadster308 Dude. I grew up in NY.

Now we'd like the episode where John Byner and Felix conned Oscar into wearing the fat suit.
"Nice names"..
My favorite line!!
Hilarious line...
Sure. 2 fivez..classic
Such a great scene.
Two fives. Lol.
Same guy played Felix's cousin in the episode about the Fat-Away commercial.
I believe Byner once hypnotized Emma Samms on Circus Of The Stars. Lucky guy.
Hahaha. Smiles

Would never be the same. Randall and Klugman had a certain magic. Who would play the roles now? Maybe Jim Parsons could play Felix. Oscar ???
I paid about $400 for a month of parking in SF, in 2019. (and not on weekends)
74th and CPW? I thought they lived on Park avenue?
Most of my openings are inherited...
It is like jazz
i think oscar was actually serious when he said he would have to take a taxi for a 9 block walk
Check the obituaries.

john byner is a good funnyman
As someone born in 1999 hearing him say “for $250 I could get it 3 rooms and a bath” rang through my head like a gunshot
That old Dodge
Anyone notice Byner was in his Ed Sullivan stance at the beginning?
Brilliant
1. Good Clip .

$250.00 back then in 1973 was alot of money !!! :-)

Parking in nyc is very hard and high prices
The guy in the first clip looks like he works in a meat market.
He was the original Mork but the role ended up with Robin Williams
"go try it on the street for a while, youz'l be back..."
Byner wants to be Carlin in this. Too bad, cause he was so much more.
😂😂😂😂
Only a fool owns a car in NY.
Not everyone lives in Manhattan. If you live in the outer boroughs, you may need a car. Not every part of the city is covered by the subway.
Youss'll be back.

Two and a half men ripped this show off.
Classic writng
At least they didn't try Jiffy Park.
can you please do something about the commercials I would love y'all to cut that out cuz it's very atrovating
funny scene but he's way off on his parking rules for cpw
