    Happened to my 2006. Went into limp mode, but got me to the dealer. Yep...coil pack was the issue, had them all replaced. Thanks for the great video. I still have the car, but it is killing me slowly by a thousand cuts. VW service although great, is now way too expensive. I have done some of the easy work myself and it helps. Saved over 250 bucks when I replaced my driver side
    window switch cluster. RUclips is fantastic. Don't forget to replace the cam follower regularly.

    That very same light came on as I was heading out from Las Vegas to Reno (450 miles through barren desert) literally 5 minutes into the drive, car has 136k miles on it. I thought that malfunction light was a transmission symbol, and the car was jitterring and vibrating, so I immediately expected the worst. We limped it off the freeway, prayed, and the light turned off. I checked in the owners manual and saw it was a malfunction code, and it occurred to me it may be timing related. Made it back to Reno just fine, light hasn't come back on, but I'm going to replace all 4 coils and plugs. An ounce of prevention as they say. Thanks for the vid!

    How many miles since your last Coil Pack replacement do you recall? I'm going to replace my Coil Pack by tomorrow, since i last replaced them in 2009 at 60K miles,, nowadays i'm at 197K miles, so thats 130K interval..'which i know is way way way too long'. But i'd notice my idle speed wanting to almost dip too low on occasion,, plus highway uphill passing power had dropped off too...Not Good.

      Did you check for codes telling you which cylinder was misfiring? A good practice is to replace all of them because if one failed, the others could be soon to follow. Always check the plugs to see if they're in good shape, but another good practice is to just replace them while you've got the coil packs off. They aren't that much $ after all.

      Joy Road Mike buy the single coil and pick one to swap out. Start car and test. One by one you can see which is bad.

    • @tubemaniac206
      @tubemaniac206 6 лет назад +1

      you can go to autozone to get check engine light scanned. the code will come up which cylinder the misfire is coming from. its just best to replace all at same time since the others are due for a change. its really not saving money if ur car was to go out in the middle of road and have to get it towed.

  • @benf101
    @benf101 6 лет назад +1

    I replaced mine many times. It never ran quite right, even with new ones... and I went through three sets (12 total coils) over the past two years. The guys at the dealership said, "Oh yeah, it's because you're not using the genuine VW parts" blah blah blah. So, since I had no better ideas, I tried the genuine VW coils... and now it runs good again. So, moral of the story, if you're having misfires, even after getting new coils, you need factory coils. The after market ones have no business calling themselves replacement parts. They aren't.

    • @ore83
      @ore83  6 лет назад +1

      benf101 this is very true for certain car parts. VWs are picky! The other car parts you want to go OEM with are oxygen sensors.

    My car smells like gas when I first turn it on it’s 2003 Passat 1.8 turbo but wastes a lot of gas In not a normal ways no leaks no nothing everything there do spark plugs save fuel ? The car I bought haven’t been changed since 150,000km on it from previews owner and I put another 30,000km on it so I wonder maybe that could be a reason ? My brother said if your spark plugs are that old means they aren’t burning fuel properly I’m not sure if you see this message let me know like I said when I first turn it on fuel smell comes from muffler then goes away as I drive let me know and thank you

    • @ore83
      @ore83  4 года назад

      Dark Night that’s normal for most cars because a cold engine requires more fuel to run correctly. As it warms up it needs less fuel and the smell goes away.
