  • The layout won't be around for long. Time to just enjoy it until the time comes!
Have some trains running past on the North Carmyllie layout as a ramble on about the layout!
Got some Hornby, Accurascale, Bachmann and more hiding and blasting past.
North Carmyllie is a fictional station outside of the fictional city of Carmyllie (not the town near Arbroath, the name came from the 'Carmyllie Pilot', the train that ran to Carmyllie). The line is an electrified line that comes from Edinburgh before it branches off with one line going northbound inot Fife and another going west to Glasgow. The line is set around 2016-2018 focusing on Scotrail and other operators that run around north of Edinburgh.

Wow Sir what a lovely layout and a very honest clearly spoken video. I can understand what you are saying I have moved many times for my career over 50 years so after a few layouts had to be dismantled entirely the penny dropped and I started to build layouts that could be moved if necessary. I have finally retired and made a new layout and guess what it's built to be moved if necessary. I always tend to overthink things but it has payed off so many times. A brilliant idea to dismantle your layout gradually rather than a rush with everything else going on when you find the property you want. You have a wonderful collection of rolling stock good to get it safely packed up. A fresh start can be a great thing to do I'm sure your new project will be superb. Best wishes Richard Canterbury

Thank you. I do plan to even make the new full size build semi-portable so if work is needing done or I move and wish to keep the layout I can do. Thing is, the idea of a new build is exiting so if I move again, I would most likely build a new layout again.
As for the stock, I keep all the packaging and plastic wraps so they should keep safe during the move, especially as they will travel to the new place via my car and not a moving truck. I value the trains more than the rest of my stuff haha.

Cant wait to see your new one, your choice of rolling stock is top notch! Making the same journey in some respects, building my first little proper layout this year. Lots to learn!

Thank you, it is a shame but its purpose as a test layout has run its course. Now I look forward to the next build which I hope, is a little bigger!

Hi, why is it I keep finding layouts on here which are about to get dismantled. A nice layout you have there, and I look forward to seeing what the future holds once you've moved and started again. One feature I really liked, but you didn't mention was the lovely long gentle curve on your main line when it leaves the platform, which I always find looks really realistic. Anyway, good stuff and thanks Dave.

Thanks! Yeah that curve was mainly by accident. A combination of running out of track and I made the hillside bigger than intended thanks to the expanding foam. Either way, it worked out well in the end.
