Lovely pots. Great ferns. Sydney tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from? What is your profession? We would like to know you better. It’s going to be fun watching your channel grow and see how the house and garden becomes your own style. So many loved that house and garden so it’ll be exciting how it transforms into something completely different but, I’m sure it’s going to be quite lovely. You have a good eye for finding wonderful decor in your style Looking forward to your next video. Hugs from Dallas
You know what, I didnt think about that until you just said that! I will do a video of myself and tell you guys a little bit about me and my family, etc!
You've inspired me to get a Maidenhair fern for a pot on the front porch when it warms up. Yours are so green and beautiful! They look great in those grey pots. I do have Painted ferns and Autumn ferns in a shady spot in the yard and they thrive and I love them. Enjoy your weekend!
Sydney, I love all ferns, especially this variety. My husband and I went south in Nov. and had our great granddaughter take care of my huge old Boston fern. Well, “Bertie” didn’t survive! I was heartbroken, but knew I could get another one. 👍🏻💕
Maiden Hair ferns are my forte. I have massive ferns however, I do live amongst the humidity of Queensland Australia. I did move for 4 years to a cold climate and they survived. I love them ❤ I can't wait to see what you do with the garden 🙂
You’ve inspired me to try a maidenhair fern one more time, Sydney! I tried hard to keep one alive indoors last year, so the next one is going outside down here in southeast Alabama. Love your channel! 💕
Hi Sydney, I was scanning videos and saw Linda's old house so I'm really curious to see what changes you'll be making. I live in southeastern PA and have had maidenhair fern growing in my yard for years. At first it was under a shrub but the shrub died and I cut it out thinking I would have to move the fern but it's been growing in full sun and seems to like it 🙂 Looking forward to the changes you'll be making. I'm also enjoying Linda's cottage house videos.
I'm in Queensland and I have my maidenhair ferns outside. Sometimes they dry out and die off. If that happens, I cut them back to the ground, put a bit of potting mix on the top of the pot and water. If they are kept dampish they come back. I've had some in pots for 20 years.
@Sydney Dorman they don't get a lot of care and attention. I water when I remember if it's been dry for a while. Every 3 or 4 years I'll divide them, again if I think about it. Other than that, they are on their own.
Maidenhair ferns look great in grey pots. As hard as I’ve tried over 50 years I have not had success with ferns in the house….even the bathroom. I have managed to keep a springeri alive for the last 5 years. I keep it in my laundry room which is cooler than the house. By spring it has a lot of brown needles, but comes back beautifully after going outside. Loves the rain. 💖😊
Sydney, I know your Oklahoma wind can be like our hot west Texas wind, so I was wondering what you do to protect these fragile little ferns on windy days? I had mine outside last year and eventually just moved it back to live in my greenhouse year round and only bring it out to be a center piece for my table if I’m entertaining. Any tips?
I also loved and killed a few maiden hair ferns. I finally decided if I ever found good realistic looking faux ones I would get them. I still haven't found any.
Hi Sydney The ferns are beautiful in the pots. I had one a few years ago and it did survive in my uk climate for some time. Kept it outside through winters too. Sadly, it must have reached the end of its life. So no more maidenhead ferns yet💝
I love Maidenhair ferns, but as Laura from Garden Answer said, “pretty plant looking for a reason to die.” That’s been my experience too. Good luck to yours.
Haha 😂 she’s not wrong but I think she lives in a dry climate without much humidity. They thrive for me outside. It’s when they have to come in that’s the problem. They are actually a perennial 3-7 but I’ve never successfully over wintered them outside.
I live in a very similar climate to Laura, gets very hot in summer, also very low humidity. Zone 7 in Central Washington, the native plants on our hillsides are sage and grasses. I’m glad you can successfully grow them Sydney. My in-laws lived in Shawnee, OK and I visited there in August and September. You aren’t exaggerating about humidity.
I have bought a couple of dozen of maiden hair ferns over the years, they die and this year I haven’t bought one. And I’m good with plants. There is a perennial maiden hair, I have a group of them planted in my yard I’ve had for maybe ten years. But still, I want the ones you have.
I love Maiden Hair Ferns. I had last summer that did great on my back porch. I brought them in hoping to over winter them. The poor thing was dead in less than a month. 😢 I definitely will get another one for the porch.
I do love maidenhair ferns but they do not love me. I can grow all ferns but that one. Thanks for sharing your tips. Yours are so pretty I may have to try another.
Beautiful! This year I will finally get one but keep it outside. I don’t want to have to baby it inside. It’s so humid here in Houston, so I’m sure it will do great on my patio. I was obsessed with yours on your front patio at the old house. Also what are your plans with that room aside your garage? I would totally make it into a greenhouse/ entertaining area. Add some skylight for more light and filled with plants and a table to have cocktails or tea. So dreamy!
Will do well in Houston with all the humidity! Give one a shot! It’s going to be a multipurpose room. Our workout equipment is out there and ill be using it as a greenhouse and we plan to entertain in the backyard when the weather is nice as all as the 4 French doors open up to the yard!
I’ve always loved these but gave up years ago trying to keep them alive! I’m in southern England and never thought of putting them outside for the warmer months. Maybe I’ll try again sometime ☺️.
Love these, but have shied away because of their reputation. Do you grow yours as annuals? I'm in central Texas, so that's good to know they handle outside shade well enough. I drove by Tuesday this past week since we were visiting my parents in Del City. No tulips yet, darn! 😄 But the pansies and creeping phlox are looking gorgeous!
No tulips yet! The tulips at our old house are blooming though! Too early 😬 We used to live in Keller and I grew them outside in pots. I grow them as perennials but I keep them inside as little as possible. They are technically perennial zone 3-7 but I dont like to risk planting them in the ground bc our winters have been so unpredictable the last couple of years. You’ll be able to grow them well in pots in full shade keeping them constantly moist!

completely agree!
Yes, completely agree from North Dallas❤️
So fresh and pretty, Sydney! Please keep showing them so we can see their progress! 💚 Linda
You know what, I didnt think about that until you just said that! I will do a video of myself and tell you guys a little bit about me and my family, etc!
Have you tried using soil scoops?
I love the ferns in the dark gray pots. Really shows off the plant.

The Maiden Hair ferns look beautiful in those new pots. I want to try growing some this year . Thanks Sydney
Beautiful plants! Enjoyed watching Thank you
You are doing a beautiful job! Your style and learning from you and Linda

I never knew about these! They are ever so lovely. Thank you. 💚💚💚
Love the journey love this segment and getting to know you better …… and the helpful hints ❤️🐕🙏🏻🇺🇸🇭🇷🍸
I love the green fern against the dark pot! That room needs a name!
I am thoroughly enjoying your videos and what you're doing to your new home and hugs to your kitty cat!
I’ve killed many a maiden hair but I’ve never thought to keep them outside. I’ll have to give that a try. ❤ 🌱 ✌️
Great finds on pots. I like color gray too. Thanks for tips. Going to get my ferns soon
They look fabulous in the grey pots. I love ferns but struggle with them inside. Outside they do great.
I love ferns and keep one on my front porch every spring and summer . Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us.
You’ve inspired me to try a maidenhair fern one more time, Sydney! I tried hard to keep one alive indoors last year, so the next one is going outside down here in southeast Alabama. Love your channel! 💕
Put it in full shade, water regularly and you’ve got the humidity in Alabama to do it! It will thrive!
I might give these a try out on my front porch. Thanks for the video.
Great looking plants!
Thanks for sharing …..love those ferns…..I love that you are messing when planting…..so am I!!
Very messy 😂

Thats amazing! 20 years! They are pretty resilient in the right conditions!

They’re beautiful. I’m going to try and find them in my area.

Ferns are tough inside, even in higher humidity rooms. Try one outside in full shade and keep it constantly moist!

Those are so beautiful!!
Love the ferns
New subscriber here 👋🏻 I lol forward to seeing your new garden take shape.
Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for subscribing! Lots going on over here so stay tuned!
I also loved and killed a few maiden hair ferns. I finally decided if I ever found good realistic looking faux ones I would get them. I still haven't found any.
What brand is the potting soil your using? Can you add additional peat moss to moisture control potting soil?
Ferns are lush!
Oh. My. Word. They're beautiful.
Hi Sydney
The ferns are beautiful in the pots. I had one a few years ago and it did survive in my uk climate for some time. Kept it outside through winters too. Sadly, it must have reached the end of its life. So no more maidenhead ferns yet💝
Hello Sydney, beautiful ferns, what brand of mister are you using? Thank you.
I love Maidenhair ferns, but as Laura from Garden Answer said, “pretty plant looking for a reason to die.” That’s been my experience too. Good luck to yours.

I wouldn’t know what to do without humidity! 😂 oh, shawnee really? Small world!
Hi Sydney! I really like your channel and remember seeing you on Linda's channel. What kind of potting soil? Is it called potting mix?
I have bought a couple of dozen of maiden hair ferns over the years, they die and this year I haven’t bought one. And I’m good with plants. There is a perennial maiden hair, I have a group of them planted in my yard I’ve had for maybe ten years. But still, I want the ones you have.
I also love the maidenhair fern and have had many die in my home. Very hard to keep, so good luck to you.
Almost impossible inside. I only grow them outside and bring them in when the weather forces me to.
I love them but can never get them to live but, I have already bought another one this year. Will definitely have to get me a mister!
Try them outside too! In full shade keeping them constantly moist, I think you’ll be surprised how easy they are!
Love the maiden ferns too! Little luck though!
I love Maiden Hair Ferns. I had last summer that did great on my back porch. I brought them in hoping to over winter them. The poor thing was dead in less than a month. 😢 I definitely will get another one for the porch.
Yea, they just dont do well inside. This winter im going to experiment with a humidity dome!
Mine was outside, huge and about 10 yrs old, then last winter it died. 😢 Also my favorite! I live in PNW in a forestry shady area!
Thanks for sharing! I love maidenhair! I’m going to head to TLC now and see if they have any left! 😊
You might try the northwest express way location. I think I bought them all off memorial 😂
I do love maidenhair ferns but they do not love me. I can grow all ferns but that one. Thanks for sharing your tips. Yours are so pretty I may have to try another.
Slowly getting progress it takes time but everything looks great
Those are even prettier in the new pots. Do you fertilize these plants?
I wont fertilize until mid summer as the potting soil has some slow release in it!
These are so pretty! Do you place these in part shade outside?
Full shade!
Beautiful! This year I will finally get one but keep it outside. I don’t want to have to baby it inside. It’s so humid here in Houston, so I’m sure it will do great on my patio. I was obsessed with yours on your front patio at the old house.

@@SydneyDorman I can’t wait to see! Plus all the evergreen plants 🙌
It’s going to look amazing!
What does "watered in" mean?
I love Maidenhair ferns. I do have issue keeping them alive. Can we please have interior update soon😬❤
Yes, so much about to start inside. Nothing has changed much since the last update but you guys will be the first to know, I promise!
❤
Someone said on a RUclips video that maiden head fern leaves don't like anything touching the leaves, so to water them below.
Love my Maidenhair ferns. I wish your voice was more direct. But I am enjoying your videos…
I’ve always loved these but gave up years ago trying to keep them alive! I’m in southern England and never thought of putting them outside for the warmer months. Maybe I’ll try again sometime ☺️.
Try again! In the right conditions they are so easy!
@@SydneyDorman - thanks! 😊. I think you’ve just given me some confidence to try. 👍🏻💚🧡
Love your blogs can you put these in a flower boxes !looking forward to seeing more blogs about your home in side

@@SydneyDorman Thanks for the tips!
I notice you don’t “ruff” their roots. Why
This huge mess is getting to me lol!!!
