One of the most beautiful songs ever written and thankfully I saw Barrie Masters with Eddie & The Hot Rods at Butlins a few years ago doing this song. I must admit I had a tear in my eye listening to and watching them do this song. There's very few songs that can better this... RIP Barrie
Paul your bass sound on the album Life On the Line which I first heard around 1978 is the reason I started playing bass and still am 40 + years later That Rickenbacker sound can't be beat
Love this song, reminds me of my best mate, who sadly took his own life, we had a ball in London in the late 70s, still love this choon, always have it blaring out of my car as well as my beloved Damned!!
From Ned in Spain, Paul I'm a drummer and I wish you were my bass player or I was your drummer or at least I could see you do this every goddamned day !!!! Always love your playing with Eddie or the Damned or all by yourself. Wow
One of my most favourite songs ever. Steve Lillywhite produced amazing stuff btw. Loved what he did on the 1st Psychedelic Furs album. I have a Southend gig on my channel of the Damned, playing 'Do anything you wanna do', with Brian at the end of the gig. 👍
I saw Eddie and Hotrods in 77 or 78 can’t remember but Squeeze and Radio Stars were supporting them I remember Paul was playing two Ricky basses the one he’s playing here and a blue one and he got a bit pissed off when he leapt in the air came down and pulled the jack out of the socket anyway he threw it on the floor and then it went out of tune so it got thrown again anyway good gig though .
This would be so much better if I could hear what Paul is saying the sound isn't great ( for me) , I agree it's great to have Paul back in The Damned, and Do Anything You Wanna Do is my favourite song of all time! it came out when I was 11, and I walked round with 'RODS' written on my knuckles in biro! dx
Nice one PG - I was that snotty nosed kid outside of Eldon Sq, Newcastle you gave your Flashman badge to on the Strawberries tour. I remember buying this also on Island Records if I remember rightly - brilliant. Thx for sharing.
Thanks Paul as a guitar player I actually listen to your bass in this .it makes the song.so glad back with the dammed again.i m usually stage right under capt with mate s.next time will be stage right watching you n groove n on your bass line s Thanks again Paul
Please please can you get MR V to just pop on and say hello just so we know hes still alive and rockin . If every1 asks he might just rise from the dead and say boo...🤪👍
Yeah! First saw your Performance at Disco in 77 as a 13 years old Kid. Next monday i buyed the 7" and later the phantastic album . Is this smasher in the DAMNED setlist now ? Hopefully greetings from Germany 🎸🎸🥁🔨🐀🎙♠️😜👻
Hiya Paul! How about showing us the bassline to "Billy Bad Breaks"? I heard it yesterday and for the first time I focused on the bass playing and was blown away! Greetings from Southern California.
As much as I’d like to hear Dave talk pipes and tobacco..... maybe the Damned can explain some of this influence Crowley seems to have on so much of today’s culture. Thanks Dudes. Thanks PG.
@@Mark_T no probs. In case you do then at least I won't miss out. See you at Leeds - I'll probably have my blue suede shoes and my balaclava.... (I don't mean just them! lol).
Since seeing Paul live last week. I’m completely obsessed with his bass playing!!
Paul Grey is a great bass player and deserves more recognition.
Shaped my life thanks

Well Said !
Great stuff Paul, still sounds as good today as it did back in the day
Such a great bass line, haave loved this since it first came out. Paul, you rock mate!
Brilliant! PG's one of my favourite bass players ever.

Another PG clip, another five minutes of bass player's heaven, thanks a lot and stay safe everyone
Fantastic Paul. Thank you for sharing.
This song made my first year of secondary school bearable!. Thank you Paul.
✌🏻❤️🇬🇧
Nice to have a bass class from a true original 😊

I love the way Paul plays !
Looks like the road crew at 3 in the morning 😂😂😂
I've been loving these Paul Gray segments. These are by far the best bass fills and I'm stealing them as far as my bass playing skills will allow ;)
I remember hearing this on Radio 1in the late 70's. Thought it was brilliant then and it still holds up!
Awesome Bass player
Nice one Paul, very fond memories of this one.
Absolutely tremendous bass lines
fantastic - next one turn the bass up over the rest pls Paul

My 2nd favorite bass player - and he would be a quick number one if it wasn’t for the Ox -
The Wingmen did a brilliant version on their recent tour
I love the rods, funny i play alot of fifths as well, guess we both just have good taste. Great to learn from you Paul

I so appreciate you Paul, 🖤 love the stories, the music breakdown and getting the chance to watch you play.

What a nice bass... I wish I’d kept mine from back in the ‘70s.
Please please can you get MR V to just pop on and say hello just so we know hes still alive and rockin . If every1 asks he might just rise from the dead and say boo...🤪👍
Great song!
The Damned sound better with Paul Grey back on bass! 💜👍🏻

Classy stuff. I dig the ride up into the higher register.

Already done - ruclips.net/video/TESWZtdUQI4/видео.html
And in next week’s show, Dave Vanian will recount tales of his days on the road with the Phantom Chords!
And an official release of the lost Album
Werner Rotten I don’t know which one’s more unlikely!
So _that's_ what you were playing! I've only been waiting forty-odd years to find out. Superb bassline.
As much as I’d like to hear Dave talk pipes and tobacco..... maybe the Damned can explain some of this influence Crowley seems to have on so much of today’s culture. Thanks Dudes. Thanks PG.
Classic!
Luv your style Bruv.
Ends a bit prematurely (accidentally?). Any chance of the full video being put up?
You'd have thought with Jimmy Page being a big Damned fan would have been able to overturn the Crowley curse on your then, ex-band.
The rumours tells Witch Jimmy Page destroyed the Hot Rods 🎸👹🔨
Is page really s fan.hard to believe?????
Magic
I'm sure Simon Gallup's been influenced by this - probably many times but there's a particular recentish Cure song I can't quite pinpoint.
Manfred Man too🤣
PAUL SCABIES CAPTAIN Dave ROMAN - THE Damned
Lovely!
Perfect lines for the track. I would agree that a little bit more of the high Rick would have worked.
Who needs jaco pastourus when you have paul grey ace bass
Fo sho!
Jaco pure poetry but you can be a great bass player by playing 2 notes
lush!
🎸🤘
Any chance of selling the Walsall poster Paul being it's from my home town
I seen them at Wolverhampton last year - that was great. Got tickets for Leeds 10th September also. Yeeeeeeeehah.
Mine too, almost. I'm an ex Willenhall lad.
@@Mark_T I'm Carlisle - see you there. I've just subscribed to your channel - as soon as I seen Leland Sklar - yep!
@@tankthelord1178 Cheers, although I don't really put up any content!

Love it))))))
One of 1977s greatest songs.
Thanks for the upload. One small suggestion -- don't put music behind the videos. It makes it difficult to hear what's being said.
I wish I spoke British. I bet the story he told was great. Great bass work, but Paul is no orator.
