All that for a plastic actuator. Who ever engineered that needs a good beating.

I have a 1996 ford ranger that thinks it is always on. You turn the key off and it won’t turn off. We replaced the ignition lock cylinder already. Is this what is broken with mine? I am thinking it is.

Finally getting to my own 1999 Ranger this Christmas. I really appreciate how long your video is and that you told what size sockets, etc. It will be nice to have my 369k mile truck back for those home depot trips. You did a terrific job with this video!!!!

Great video, well done. the repair seems involved for the replacement if a small part.Ford should be sued if that is the easy way.No complaints about the video, but it leads one to realize there are couple places we could run into difficulty.

How do you remove the ignition switch on a 1992 Ford f250 if you don't have the keys? That's what I was googling and it suggested this video. Watch first half of your email and you are very detailed like usual. But I'll see wasn't showing me what I needed. Understand that you turn the key to run position but that's the problem. Ignition switch in cuz I've lost them.

This is great but for an automatic there is a lot more to deal with. I did it but had some major problem solving to do.

I have to replace that actuator on a 2003 Grand Marquis. With the key I can start the car, but not shut it off. I took things apart to get the switch part off. I can see that the part of the actuator that engages with the ignition switch is the part that does not slide up. The key turning can only push it down (towards the start position, but not bqck towards off position)

How did you remove the lower actuator? The big block piece that came out so easily when you removed the frame? My 95 grand marquis did not fall out like that.

Mine won't turn into position to let the key out. Cylinder slot was missing the green piece and the metal plate when I took it apart

  • @JohnSmith-fb2np
    @JohnSmith-fb2np 8 месяцев назад +2

The block that the rod connects to, how does that come out. i have tried a few times and there sees to be no way. Its "the plastic block" you talk about as you are pulling the two halves apart. its at 17:45
BTW. Great video. i am a fairly accomplished tech, but i have never done a steering column. so this was a great experience and with your nicely detailed and not overly non-subject yakky proceedure was refreshingly proffesional. thanks

you should try taking one apart without marking anything. the actuator rod will only install one way .
an overall present experience to fuel contempt for the building 5 folks at Ford.

is there any danger of air bag deployment while doing this install? You don't mention it, but I wanted to make sure before I took on this project! Thanks

Is it necessary to remove the entire column from the vehicle? I saw a post on the CrownVic forums where someone removed the steering wheel, clock spring, airbag, and cylinder lock housing/tilt and was able to access the actuator rod that way, whilst leaving the bottom portion and steering shafts (with ignition switch and lower actuator block) in place.

Can anyone say if this is the same for a Crown Vic or pretty much? I can't shut mine down. I can start it with the key but I have to suffocate it and pull the battery terminal to shut it down. The key just spins around if I turn it backwards.

so at 17 minutes and 45 seconds the white block just slides out of the metal housing, but on an automatic Ranger there's a catch that prevents that block from sliding out. what do I do?

What would be symptoms of why you would replace this acuator?
I have a 2000 Ford Taurus SVG Sedan that has an almost identical steering column. I turn my key and it will move to the start position, but won't go far enough to turn the engine over to start. I've removed my ignition switched and with the key in the lock cylinder, I can move the ignition switch manually to start the car. Can't figure out why my key won't turn far enough to move the switch post/pin far enough. Any ideas?
