The bull wasn't forgotten, it was more healed, since it was made up of thousands of angry bulls, the apology song was able to calm them and give them peace
One of the most underrated and visually artistic animated movies made. Guillermo Del Toro always gives us some of the most creative and yet insanely underrated animated films. I feel like Coco was inspired by this film and both are really great
Jorge R. Gutierrez is one of the best directors for animated movies, hes loves to explore Mexican culture and bring it to life, you should check out his movies more, hes the real creative drive in this movie.
True i didn't even know this movie till my friend suggested it after watching coco. I definitely feel storywise The Book of life is better than coco. But coco has more beautiful animation.
@@thunderbull331 I am a professional 3D Character Animator, i found the animations in this movie better than Coco because of the sheer joy in them. I can imagine the animation department having so much fun animating all these shots.
My favorite thing about this movie is that Joquain and Manolo are still friends. They are still friends who love the same girl and have some heavy shadows over them but it never tears them apart until those heavy shadows appear and cast over them.
I am so happy this movie finally gets the recognition it deserves. I don't know when I stumbled upon it, but I show it to people every chance I get when they don't know it.
40:53 I interpreted this as setting all the bulls' souls free as they do not deserve to be angered and killed for the pleasure of people watching bullfighting. Manolo sings "If you can forgive," meaning he is apologizing in behalf of his family and freeing the bulls from the anger and unfinished business they were in with the bullfighters that killed them.
And oddly tons of similarities & parallels with Coco. BOL-Coco Manolo-Miguel Love music Both Day of the Dead related stories. Major characters killed with toxins Venom-Poison Both main villains die/defeated with bells
I think one detail of the plot that kind of gets overlooked is that Joaquin DOESN'T want Maria to marry him just to protect the town. When General Posada advises Maria to marry him _right after Manolo just died,_ Joaquin even pointedly tells him that this is not the time, and Joaquin is later about to call off the wedding before Chakal shows up and conveniently interrupts it. I just like the usual subversion of having Joaquin be an ass the whole way through.
Indeed; the fools (or jerks, if we want to be harsh XD) are the villagers that operate under the idea that "Joaquín is our protector, grant him his every wish". There is room for Joaquín to grow as a human person, he is not bad; his main flaw comes from two different sources: sometimes his head gets too much into the concepts of "honor and glory" he gets a bit too much selfish... and that he has no idea he is, unwillingly, Xibalba's pawn in this game (the bet was that María would end up marrying him, regardless of mutual interest... or even if he, eventually, wanted it or not).
It goes by a little quick, but if you listen to the narration the first time Chakal is seen it's explained that he stole the medal from Xibalba origionally, but Xibalba had stolen it back. After which Chakal had come unhinged, going more than a little nuts with his obsession to regain it.
40:45 I think it's less of the bulls being forgotten, but more the souls of the bulls finally being put to rest. During the climax we see the bull bursting into flame and fire is sometimes linked to anger. Manolo singing and apologizing to the bull calmed the bulls rage and allowed the souls of all the bulls the Sanchez family killed to move on.
I love this film. Personally, I like it better than Coco. When I first saw it, and even now, the Apology song gets to me. When I finally saw Coco, probably due to the hype I kept seeing and hearing, it didn't get to me even though the story is "sadder". TBoL, It's more fun. Unfortunately, it always gets overlooked. You should all watch Kubo and the Two Strings and Jack and the Cuckoo's Clock Heart. I love those movies but have yet to see too many reactions. Especially Jack, there is a cadence to the movie. I can't explain it, but I think other people should check it out.
40:45 It's more the Bulls souls being set free obviously their fate was unfair as they were killed for others pleasure and excitement. Manolo sings "If you can forgive" because he's apologizing to the souls of the Bulls, and they're finally being put to rest after everything they've been through. Thats why they became Petals they weren't forgotten, they were finally able to rest in peace. The bull also turns into petals because it symbolizes the transformation of Manolo's fear into love and acceptance of his true self. (You can thank google for that part)
There was a Renaissance of loveable pig characters for a decade. Churro gang rise up!! Also, one of the mariachis is Gabriel Iglesias who specifically requested his character be Fluffy
Fun Fact: Jorge R Guitierrez Has Confirmed That This Movie, As Well As Two Of His Other Works, The Netflix Original Series Maya And The Three And The Nickelodeon Cartoon El Tigre Adventures Of Manny Rivera Are All Connected! With Maya, Zatz, And Acat From Maya And The Three Having Reincarnated Into Maria, Manolo, And Joaquin Respectively, And Then Those Three Being Reincarnated Into Frida, Manny, And Zoe From El Tigre!
so glad youre reacting to this; i loved this movie so much and the voice cast was amazing~ I didn't watch your review yet so I'll edit with more after I do :D Edit: lol Jaby being so distracted by the quirky male characters is funny. I just find this art style so imaginative and refreshing. Also, I think the reason she chose Manolo was because he was always more genuine and didn't use things to prop himself up - like his mustache, medals, etc. He's always just been a guitarist/singer who didn't want to be violent. lol
Best reaction..."I don't understand, why didn't she choose Joaquin?" Lmao! Also referenced every movie, video game possible with each character.... man being the manly of men...made me laugh!
this movie was so , just omg, I loved it, yes it was a tiny bit creepy but the music and the gods and the story, just yeah, I love the gods in this story, they are both phenomenal
To me it's like comparing How the Grinch Stole Christmas to The Polar Express. Based on the same holiday with similar elements related to the holiday and culture. But different stories.
When Coco came out, I wasn’t keen on watching it because it came so soon after Book of Life and I didn’t think another Day of the Dead film could rival it. But I love them both now.
The movie is directed by Jorge R Gutierrez, who has a very unique art and animation style. I recommend his other works, like his two series El Tigre and Maya And The Three. Also yes, bull fighting involves killing it. It's sad.
I'm glad this movie is being covered it was just spoon good one of my favorites, it was definitely overshadowed by coco. If you watch the extra features there's so much detail in everything they put on screen
This and Coco both prominently feature the Mexican Day of the Dead holiday and so would be expected to have certain similarities, much like two different Christmas movies will have a lot of similarities. Other than what is necessary because of featuring that holiday they don't have much in common. Except for one thing: in both the main male protagonist grew up in a family that has a family business, the family expects them to go into that business, and they want to be guitarists instead. I'm curious if that is a theme from Mexican folklore that the writers of both films happened to find when researching Mexican culture.
I originally hated Carlos during the first part of the movie because he was being a bit of a perfectionist to Manolo and didn’t accept that killing the bull was wrong and his decision was humane. But I changed my mind about him ever since the climax where he had that change of heart
If the secret entrance in the wall was surprising to you then what really will cook your mind is it's shape. It pretty much tells you who the lady is right there. Kinda looks like a Sombrero shape..
I see how you would compare it to littlebigplanet, but it actually looks exactly like the game "the puppeteer" The other game you were thinking of was Knack, which i could also see
@kayleetheshinysylveon9957 look up what the FLDS chirch is. They are just like mormons, but they practice polygamy. You can find them in southern Utah pretty easily
I took my daughter to go watch this movie when it released. Just so that I can fan-boy all out over the music in the movie. She liked the story though.
You should check out Maya and the Three too. It's also very good, has a similar style, is made by the same creator (Jorge R. Gutierrez) and has been said by him to take place in the same continuity
You should react to the movie Constantine city of demons. It is a DC animated universe movie and it has one of the hardest quotes I've ever heard in a movie.
3:21 Actually you 2,Dia de los Muertos is Not a Mexican halloween or like halloween at All! Halloween is mostly about candy and scaryness, day of the dead has nothing with scary costumes, giving out candy, no scary decorations or pranks and sadly no trick o treating!Instead it's all about coming together for like 1 big family reunion with all your family members even with your ancestral or deceased members, their alters would be personalizly decorated with all that represented that person's life, favorite food, passtimes, items and most importantly a picture of them in the center and decorated with marigold so that their spirit can find their path to the alter with their family from their world and return really you must learn more about this and other world cultural holidays!

It was released 4 years before CoCo
Book of Life walked so Coco could run.

The Book of Life and Coco are really amazing films and great takes on The Day of the Dead
This is better than Coco in my opinion
@@Watcherobot Understandable but it is less accurate with tradition. It feels a bit like a novel or stereotype.

I just realized Luna is the writer of the last song and also the human disguise for xilaba stayed similar
I truly love this movie.❤️🔥 Yes, more than Coco, though it's really not comparable.
Google - "I can't help, falling in love with you", form Elvis. It was not intended to be a wedding song, but I can see why its being used as one.

i love this movie, it's a shame it didn't get as famous as coco
Coco has more heart, but I like the visuals of this one
This might be a hot take, I recently watched this and liked it more than coco
Watch Channing Tatum again in 21 & 22 Jump Street. It's totally worth it 👌.

The ps4 game with the break apart character you were talking about jabey is knack I know it's a pretty dumb name for a game

I love this movie a lot but I wish so much they didn't go jukebox musical for some of the songs and went with all originals.
