Songs of Conquest Gameplay! Spiritual Successor to Heroes of Might and Magic (Arleon Faction)

- Songs of Conquest (SoC) is an indie turn-based strategy game heavily inspired by the Heroes of Might and Magic (HoMM) series, especially Heroes 3. I play a Skirmish community map (Dwellings of Grimkeep by Token) as the Arleon faction, the uneasy alliance of human fighters and the Faey of the forest.

More to come. What do you think of Songs of Conquest so far?

The gameplay is very interesting.
pls in the next one dont rush trough the map and try to show off what the game has to offer even if you lose...
go for the armory and the other research building show off different races etc.
way too hard. I prefer heroes hour so far.
I only played the first campaign so far, but I like the exploring ... It looks very magical and more 90s than HoMM 2 or 3 and I also like the different twist(s) on the battles. Also at first essence/magic is just buffs, but it becomes pretty powerful quickly... Obviously it needs more content, but that's to be expected with Early Access.
ironic that there isn't any songs in it. did you disable the music just in case of copyright issues? whoops I didn't have my volume all the way up.
The pixel graphics feel really intriguing and the overall soundtrack has a nice heavy feel to it. There's definitely potential for a long play! The factions seem quite unique as well.
Always excited to see you post a video, especially the long form ones.
Right on, I was hoping you'd give this a go and share with us how you like it. AbsoluteZero (Chris) was playing it a few weeks back.
Tips I remember include that you can either push or hold the ALT key on the main map to highlight the 'actionable' locations. Also, random maps are possible (albeit likely unbalanced) by creating a new map in the map editor, saving it, and then loading it once back in game. Cheers!
Cool, I was hoping you'd do a video about this game! I've been very curious about it, nice to see your playthrough to get an idea of what it's like.
hey big fan, hope you create more stuff for soc. I havent played homm since I was a child and I am hooked again :D
Yes mate! I got the game at the weekend. I enjoy it.
Nice to see some alternative games to freshen things up. Some really cool ones too.
If you ever need people to play AoE or HOMM with then let us know how to get in touch 😜👍
The +1 attack spell is 1+ attack for each troop in a stack, so use that on your milita and that gives you a huge buff
The map looks quite blurry and hard to identify objects on. I also don't particularly like the seemingly limited town system and that I can't go inside. I think the combat and spell system makes sense and is cool, though. As others have said, the UX seems a bit clunky and there are some bugs. I think if these could be fixed, plus a town system with more depth and clearer graphics, it could be quite a nice game.
I agree that interactable objects should stand out more, and the spell system although not perfect is a fresh take on the idea. I don't think they will change the town system much, though - I believe the visuals are intended to be enjoyed from the adventure map.
Haven't watched the whole video yet, but with the rules for zones of control, ranged attack and movement reducing your attack, that one-step spell looks incredibly useful (if it let's you bypass these three things).
The upgraded minstrels are OP, they can give plus 10 defence (the buff adds up up everytime you use it. When playing Arleon I usually have 2-3 stacks of rangers, 1-2 stacks of militia, 2 stacks of minstrels and a stack of swords men.
The upgraded minstrels are your fastest units if you use my setup so I usually use there buffs straight away to get +20 defence. Then all your troops are tanky. And I keep using the buffs for each turn.
That does sound strong and it's good that momentum exists to at least (kind of) discourage one-stack spam. But I don't know if I could prefer them over sappers, I really like the stakes ability.
@@Norovo use sappers instead of militia, use your troops abilities on turn 1 and you win the battle
nice thank you for the video:)
This was fun to watch, will you be playing it more in the future?
Thanks
wow interesting game but what a clunky interface for troop management etc...
Nice video,,
Great Video!
Dont want to bother much, but when will you post your next homm3 infernal inssurection video?
Just uploaded :)
Nice gfx and amazing music, however,
there are only 4 factions in the game. 4 comparison in HM3 you get 8 factions.
This is what HOMM V could have been. It was alright.. but... THIS is the art direction done properly.
Also they clearly integrated some of the various mod ideas for HoMM3 improving upon the game mechanics with the help of the entire world ...
this game is genius. probably has some bugs ? but those get sorted out with time...
game looks great :D
for those of us who don't game every day etc - these things are invaluable
Looks interesting. The problem is that my hearth has only 1 place for turn-based strategy game.
nice
the units meld with the terrain
So in this game you play as Jessie from AthleanX.
Where to buy this online
There's a link in the description and it's also on Steam
Hi Norovo.
This is a great-looking game and also seems to be very intricate with all the various skills, powers and upgrades etc. 🤗
Thanks for your play-through, mate. 🙏

Not a fan of pixel art in this game but the combat system is interesting
I really love this game however, the AI is really annoying as it stands. hopefully they retool the AI before release. I've played multiple games where the AI just spams as many heroes as fast as possible and take over the entire map before i even have 3 heroes. and that was on EASY difficulty..... seems very sweaty imo especially for people like me who like to just chill and play at their own pace.
right.. the easy ai shouldn;t employ expert ai tactics with huge margins of error .. instead it should employ noob tactics.
making lots of heroes is specific high level gameplay. I have beaten homm3 maps with max score (via max difficulty) and I know that there needs to be almost types of ai. In old Transport Tycoon Deluxe they had ai settings which made them not expand very much or fast - this made things more manageable... because yeah the ai can just spam the whole map with ventures and gg.
Even I enjoyed the simple ai in Homm3 before i got gud. I spent years and years playing on medium and loving it. If it played like human meta strats I;d probably get bored.
Yeah, I totally get that. I played for over 2 hours in another game and got totally crushed at the end - I took out the first enemy wielder but about 3 more arrived straight after and I was overwhelmed. I did lose a couple battles earlier so I guess maybe my momentum was too damaged to keep up. I don't know if the AI cheats, but I agree normal can be very hard and easy should be easier than it is now.
@@Norovo for sure. especially since this is a niche genre that has even been a thing for like 20 years, there's gonna be alot of new players coming in.
This game still needs ALOT of minor fixes tbh.
This is ugly and complicated version of Heroes 3
Yo, this game look like crap.
Yep
Can we get rid of those damn dumb hexagon shapes the map has ? It's just dumb.
One look at the graphics and hard pass from me.
What i don't get with these games is why they feel that they have to reinvent everything. Just call the hero a hero and humans humans, if it's essentially the same. There are so many races snd words that are commonly known, so why come up with new ones in such a niche game that won't stick and nobody know's what to expect.
It often takes away the intuition we've all built over the past 2 decades
its just me who think just saw ugly-est game ever? :) homm 3 its sci-fi compared to this..
