Songs of Conquest (SoC) is an indie turn-based strategy game heavily inspired by the Heroes of Might and Magic (HoMM) series, especially Heroes 3.

The strategy for these maps usually involves getting the town upgraded to tier 3 as fast as possible (Round 5 on average) to hire a second wielder, and then their combined armies (plus the units from Camps) can take on most nearby fights. It's also practically mandatory to build a marketplace in the first medium size building site as special resources are barely available while there's a lot of gold that can be used for trading.
Agree with the issues you've outlined, especially that there definitely needs to be more smaller fights to take on in the starting zones. Hopefully there will be more updates to the RMG feature to further improve the experience.
Yeah, someone else mentioned marketplaces too. My instinct has been to avoid building them if I only have one, to avoid the terrible exchange rate, but on reflection it makes a lot of sense on maps like this. Thanks

The devs are indeed busy with the game. They are working at the moment as well on the troop's abilities and traits.
I usually prefer hand-made maps in these kinds of games but I'm happy they're doing the feature, will give it a ton more replayability.

i have learned to rely on marketplace early to turn gold into the ressources i need to reliably tech up quick. the main ressource for me early game is gold. you can reach your tier 3 units withing the first week if you want to.
I think the issue is less with the RMG and more with the overall unit design. Resistance to range is a very strong trait and scattered very liberally. It makes a ranged-focused strategy much less effective than you'd expect. If the designers want ranged to be an effective paradigm, I think they need to do some work to make sure most fights have at least one soft target for ranged attackers, either my weakening the ranged resistance of some units, or by varying monster groups to include more variety.

Nope, Shields of Order are Arleon units too so I doubt that system will change. Sorry!

Not against the idea but I don't know the meta very well and there's a risk I would waste time recording bad games (early quitters etc.). Similar to Heroes 3, I prefer not to risk that atm
yeah, i think these tiny patches of ressources here and there should be guarded by low level trash units, at least so that you have some stuff to fight in the beggining

how come 2022 game has worse graphics than 1999 game
cant tell the resources, they all blend into the background, especially with f.lux on
in heroes 3 you can clearly see what is what (except for thing like the damn unicorn glade)
everything here just looks worse. Even the combat everything just blends into the background
H4 is better than this
