    I had the same quandary a while ago. Been doing a fair bit of decorating for people of late. Asked a lad who’s been doing it same length of time as yourself about the difference in the two varieties. He said he always uses the retail rather than the trade and it was a bit of a rip off. Personally I’ve been disappointed with it (the trade vinyl) and the Leyland trade too. The way I look at it, is if you’re walls are problematic you’ll always be on a hiding to nothing, no matter if your using Valspar or Farrow and Ball stuff. Which is why your other videos are also great! The top tips on prep, problem areas etc. cheers.

      prep is key, but there is a difference beetween trade and retail.

      Out of all the trade ones would you stick with Dulux?

    Dulux Trade vinyl Matt is my go-to these days. I used to use Leyland but I've found Dulux has improved massively.
    You can also buy the Trade Vinyl Matt in an extra value tub which works out a lot cheaper when using week in week out 👌🏻

    There is a very good video about this on the Skill Builder channel when they head to Dulux HQ. It’s not that one is deliberately worse than the other, they are designed for different markets and levels of proficiency with paint. The retail for example is thicker and designed not to drip everywhere when handled by a DIYer. The fact we have the choice of both is a bonus.

      Choice is a good thing.

    Great video Steven. I have an area of ceiling which was water damaged. Dried out, Zinsser applied. The area is still flashing through after 2 coats. Would the trade Dulux help cover better due to the excellent opacity?
    Thanks again. 👍

      In the past with troublesome stains, a thin coat of quick dry gloss over the stain, then 2 coats of whit and it's gone like the darkness at dawn!

      @@dannyhudson5115 I used to use oil based undercoat back in the day. gloss on the odd occasion. but the bin just dries faster.

    The retail paint is perfectly acceptable on ceilings.The Vinyl Matt I never use as there are far better alternatives these days for the walls such as Crown Clean Extreme.

    Is the vinyl matt okay for a freshly plastered ceiling/wall?

    • @Inexteriors
      @Inexteriors  3 месяца назад

      Yes, just put 40 percent water in for the mist coat, wich will be the first coat over the bare plaster

    The best way to show the difference between them both , is use them both over a dark surface …. The only way to show how shit the retail stuff is

    • @Inexteriors
      @Inexteriors  3 месяца назад +2

      i was thinking that, but the there was no dark colour to cover on this job, i have to make do with what i have at the time.

      @@Inexteriors obviously you know , but to anyone that doesn’t , if it’s got the Dulux dog on the can, walk away from it …. So many of the general public don’t realise that all the major paint manufactures make the cheap retail version and a trade version….. there’s a reason why you can buy a 10L bucket for a tenner🤣🤣
