Congrats on hitting 10k. I find myself thinking how strange we are. Thousands of people subscribed to a channel devoted to boots. A great part of it is your engaging personality and infectious enthusiasm. Good work mate.
Just bought my first pair of Viberg boots on the 2040 last! I like the fit better than the MP Last from White's because they're wider. I'm an E width and the White's don't come in E width's unless they're custom made. They want you to go through measuring your foot in 4 different areas. I had my (D width) MP Sherman's pushed out in the pinky toe area and now they're much better. The arch support is almost exactly the same as the MP Sherman last, which is perfect. I'm definitely a Viberg fan now. I'll end up wearing them more than my other boots, but I still like to switch boots all the time. Thanks so much!
Teik, after watching tons of your videos I finally felt the need to comment and thank you. You are an absolute gem who I thoroughly enjoy watching and learning from. You've helped inform my boot purchases tremendously. Best RUclips boot reviewer hands down!
Hi Teik, from the US East Coast! I've been really enjoying your reviews over the past few months - especially your followups on past videos like this one! Your presentation method is easily one of the most thoughtful and accessible that a budding casual boot enthusiast can find. It's definitely influenced my first purchase of a pair of Vibergs in the recent past. I'll know who to blame! Keep up the wonderful work from the heart!
I have a pair of Viberg's 2030 Service Boots in calfskin and also wasn't crazy about the 3mm wide flat waxed laces. I ordered through Etsy a pair of flat waxed laces that are 5mm wide. May not seem like much but there is a definite difference in the look and ease of lacing.
Just today I somehow splashed a liquid of undecided origin onto the left toe of my recently purchased natural CXL pair. The first blemish on a beautiful piece of footwear. I need to change my mindset and just enjoy these and the signs of life that will surely accumulate over the long long haul. Nice update!
Having followed a similar trajectory, as I'm sure many have who arrive here, I totally agree! Teik's reviews address so many questions that immediately come to mind when considering a premium boot like this one. His background in consulting may be peeking through...
These are so beautiful. I have a couple pairs of PNW boots, nicks and Jk, and while they are the most comfortable, functional things I could possibly need, I do love the dress up of these! Great vid.
I can’t remember if I have mentioned before, but when ever I get a new pair of shoes or boots,I will bend and fold back and forth, side to side over and over for quite a bit,so as if I have put on and removed the shoe/boot,that’s my version of breaking in new footwear.
Living in the PNW, I don't hike with my leather boots that much. I would on a relative flat hike. On a hike that has 3000 ft (915meters) or more vertical with possible snow, I'd probably wear much lighter specialty hiking boots or hiking shoes. I don't hike all that often, but I wear my leather boots all the time in the city where I live.
I 100% agree with you, there is zero burgundy in these boots. FWIW I saw the dress as blue and black, which it technically was. So my eyes are properly calibrated.
Yes, they are worth it! I have now taken mine out many times on hikes. In dry deadfall, wet snow, muddy pastures and even sandy beaches. They have stood up better than any boot I've ever owned and still shine up beautifully for a march in the parade square... Ok, I'll admit, I've never gone on parade.
I really enjoy your videos! I’ve been eyeing the new 2030 Toscanello Vachetta Lucida and these. I think I may give the Toscanello’s a shot as I have fat fingers and the speed eyelets are appealing to me. I think I’ll give them a shot. After all, I haven’t treated myself to a new pair of boots in a few years! A feeling that I sense you get after a few months of nothing new in the boot queue 😉
hi teik - i find that the top part of the boot doesn't flex much if you tie the laces all the way to the top and try to bend forward - does that ever get more flexible/comfortable? is this the case for all boots? i am wondering if one could run in viberg service boots? thank you for your wonderful videos :)
I like to judge all boots on their ability to withstand the outdoors. To me a dress boot is nonexistent. Either it’s a boot and does it’s job or it’s a prop and I don’t want it. Not to sound harsh haha. Looking forward to your apocalypse boot video!
Teik, that’s good info about the tiny eyelets and small laces. I’ve noticed Viberg has started making their 2040/2030 boots this way, when in previous years they had larger eyelets (and less of them). I don’t like it aesthetically, but didn’t have experience with them. I think I’ll wait till Viberg goes back to a more rugged styling. Or maybe they never will. Their AW23 drop has been disappointment after disappointment.
::glances left and right:: "Dear God, I hope my wife didn't hear that." Their Scout boot looks like a winner for me, except for the $800 price point. That said, they made me "Yeah, I need these boots" list.
These are one of my grail boots, and your glowing review isn't helping any! I keep telling myself I don't need a pair of Vibergs but it's getting harder to convince myself of that. Especially now that you've helped dispel some of the sizing questions I've had. Thank you for what you do!
I have to keep buying Nick's and White's boots. I cannot justify the higher price for a Viberg when these other makers make world class boots for less. I understna d you need to support the channel when making purchases.
Take into consideration people, when he says “hike” he’s walking over soft, off-road terrain. I own Viberg, 2 pairs, I took my brown cxl 1035 on a legitimate hike and they didn’t like it. Leather gets gouged, heel stacks get wrecked, you can chunk off the toe portion of the outsole, I don’t recommend it. He’s a bit better off on the ridgeway (vs Dainite)with the thick heel pad and tread but still.. they’re very well made, no doubt, but some trails are too much. Avoid anything rocky, can you walk on soft dirt and leaves? Naturally, you’ll just have to clean them afterwards.
Now that you broken the $1k AUD barrier you need to brake the $1k USD barrier. Lofgren, Clinch, Rolling Dub, NFbootmaker, Flame Panda, VisVim, the real mccoys, etc. You can do it! 😅
To dam expensive . Anyway majority of people that would buy at such prices would justify it by saying yea its worth it , why would they say oh my these are not worth 900 bucks , it would make them look dumb . And yes your review was good as always.
It's too easy for me to criticize, because they don't offer my width and likely never will. I do wonder about resoling. If the sole stitching's so fine and close that cobblers' machines can't reproduce it, I suppose that means sending back to Viberg. I just checked, and Viberg points on to other companies for repairs. Perhaps those willing to pay initial price would tend to be willing to spend a few hundred for resoles.
Don’t buy new - buy used. All my Vibergs are bought used and at half the price of new. They are still excellent boots used and even at full price new, worth it. They are so well built there is a Reddit post of a farmer who uses his shell cordovan pair as his farm boot. And it looks amazing after some brushing. As the saying goes “make sure you have a good bed, chair and boot because if you are not in one you are in the other” …
You may be able to wear these "in the wild" but honestly, they wouldn't perform as well as a top notch, modern, all leather hiking or mountaineering boot. Look at something like the Scarpa SL1 or Delta boots as good examples. They have one piece uppers (more or less) with very little stitching for water resistance , silicon impregnated leather and cemented soles that don't let in water, 2.4mm or 2.8mm leather uppers, are lighter and more cushioned, have a sole that has significantly deeper and more aggressive lugs than Ridgeway and a much better lacing system ( D-rings and lace tensioners to fine tune the fit). They are both re-soleable and both made in Europe. And the most expensive SL1 is much less than half the price. Will you look as stylish and enjoy rich leather patina and smell as the Vibergs ? Absolutely not. Same with the craftsmanship and stitching of the Vibergs. Which is a long winded way of saying that these are lovely boots that can do a job but like other heritage footwear are primarily fashion items. That's fashion in a good, high quality way as opposed to trash fashion. And I own two pairs of them...
@@Bootlosophy They're not really boots that people wear much for casual use except for their intended use like hiking up mountains or perhaps jobs like landscape gardening. And looks tend to not matter much once you've spent a few days walking in acidic peat bog and kicking sharp stones on the summits. I do agree the traditional service boots are all better looking and can be worn in a lot more scenarios.
And a correction, the Scarpas may not be lighter than the Vibergs based on your 765g for your CXL boot. Perhaps around the same or a little bit heavier.

Watching from Germany. Coming from iron snail to stridewise to rose anvil to you. Your content is just superb

That's right Tek....a big component of value is how do they make you feel!
Congratulations on the 10K! No burgundy for me. They're perfect for "urban jungles"
These are so beautiful. I have a couple pairs of PNW boots, nicks and Jk, and while they are the most comfortable, functional things I could possibly need, I do love the dress up of these! Great vid.
Viberg’s in my opinion are the Alpha and Omega of the boot world. I have tried and owned everything under the sun and now all I wear are Viberg’s.

Podiatrists would tell you that you’re in danger of adding a flex point to your boot that doesn’t match the natural flex point of your feet.

After I get my Whites MP I will be getting a pair of Vibergs, thanks mate
Thank You for sharing! And heck yes wear them hiking

If the top eyelet/hook is right at the very top, I usually leave it unused.
I can't imagine who and how and how much the resole would be
Some people in the comments found a way but yeah you’re right $$$

@alexandergannon7780 if you paid this kind of money Viberg charges, you would expect perfection.
Great video Teik
Great review! I love my vibergs 🍻

Nice boots. But ouch on $$
I have several pairs whites boots but no viberg

I just scored these for usd $395 brand new.
😮
Great Video Teik. Is your IG account down or hacked?
No it’s up

🤦
What socks do you use bro?
Kathmandu boot socks
Hard to believe guy like Teik is still using Iphone6
Hahahahaha! Finally got a 13 and they brought out the 15 on me this month!!!!!

Good point
I can't buy a boot that is more than a week pay
But last you enough years that they “cost” less per year than buying a new pair every couple of years?

All very good points. Except I don’t like the look of modern hiking boots. All to their own.

The only burgundy I see is on your shirt.
Me too!
