I own two Dodge durangos RT both of them are 5.9 and all-wheel drive a 2000 and 2001 the 2000 is pretty fast it's taking out a couple of Corvettes and the 2001 is a build in the process
@@saltysandwich3839 I love the 5.9s.. hard to find them for sale in good shape where I live. Ended up getting a super clean and off-road worthy 2000 XJ Classic trim instead.
Dude I have a 5.9 with 255k miles and a custom exhaust, I’m the second owner and I go on the highway and go to a nearby town and then come back every day so I ha e an excuse to floor it. My average mpg is 8.4 and I don’t care. It’s my baby a I will rebuild the motor when it seizes. There’s nothing like a 360 Mopar Big Block in a Mid size SUV. I love your video, and I hope that your 5.9 will stay in such mint condition for a long time.
I was extremely lucky to find it. One owner, completely stock and just 42k miles. The gauge needles are still bright orange, which tells you this was tucked away somewhere cozy when not in use. Thanks for watching!
I have a Platinum 5.9 and absolutely love it. I was lucky enough to find one like Drew. All original with 26,000 miles. Great sound when you start it up and classy looking.
My pops bought my Deep Slate 5.9L new in ‘98 and gave it to me about 10 years ago. Still stock setup and now has 330K miles on it and still running strong! Can’t believe how clean the one in the video is though!
Yet, nobody mentions the programmable garage door opener built into the driver visor or the stereo controls on the back side of the steering wheel which one just uses one finger tips. Dimming mirrors. Yet the 98 5.9 is distinct as it's the only ZJ with the functional hoods louvers. I notice it because my '97 has all those features, along with the sun roof and fuel tank, differential and front armor which is rare. The dealership installed the class III hitch for mine for free as it was an easy "recall" issue. Back glass raises and has the wipers. I forgot to mention the heated leather front seats. Congrats on still having yours. :)
I have a Platinum 5.9 and absolutely love it. I was lucky enough to find one like Drew's all original with 26,000 miles. Sounds so good when you start it up and runs great like new with those Classic looks.
Nice tribute to the 5.9. Maybe one day a collector like the Wagoneer is today. About suspension, that's right that there is no difference with the standard ZJ, but what I enjoy is that it allows the Niner to go off road, while the Trackhawk and SRTs are excusively dedicated to street use, which can become quickly boring in real life.
I'm glad to see the 5.9 get some love and not be forgotten as the first Jeep SRT. Probably the only time this will be next to a Trackhawk. And some good information on 5.9s not all people know, you know your ZJ stuff my dude.
I love my Stone White 5.9. She's got over 230k miles, dad was the 2nd owner, still looking and running good. All stock but the muffler and have every receipt since 2000
Same. My 5.2 is all stock for a little bit longer Never has a check engine light and has over 270k miles on the motor. I’ve replaced the radiator, front axles and an idler pulley. Oh and I replaced the stock horn with a much cooler horn that makes all kinds of animal sounds and sirens and has a PA system
@@uniquegore1063 Nice! V8 Jeeps are the best. Just did the diffs, T case, and now doing control arms and motor mounts/tranny mount next. Be sure to check your motor and tranny mounts, mine are original and shot from previous oil leaks and time.
Awesome video! My dad drives a 2018 Trackhawk, and I a 2013 5.7L Overland. I am going to look at a white 1998 5.9 at the end of the month that an older lady has owned since nearly new. I am absolutely fascinated by big motor Jeeps. I also currently own a 1977 Cherokee Chief with a factory 401ci engine. Great comparison you did here and I like how you looked deep to see the similarities. It’s the same idea! The 5.9 was so special when it came out, glad you did it justice here. What did that 42k mile example end up selling for?
Love the 2 jeeps grand cherokee but the 5.9 limited its very special to me and the 2005 - 2010 wk grand cherokee hemi 5.7 its a special heml engine the 5.7lts and sounds amazing
I got a 96 ZJ with the 5.2L. Pretty good motor (owned 2 4.0L XJ's before it). Love how like 99% of the comments are about the ZJ. IMO the 93-98 Grand Cherokee is the best. If I had the money, would restore mine and prolly do a swap for a 5.9L and keep the 5.2 for tinkering.
I’m restoring my 98 zj currently. Decided to stick with the 5.2 and stroke it though. That motor is a monster. I’ve walked many newer sports cars with my stock motor.
Love the Trackhawk but got some 5.9 love. I recently bought a 2001 5.9 R/T awd Durango. Already bought Edelbrock heads, studs and girdle, and a 7582 1.25ar turbo. Looking for 650whp on moderate 8-12lbs boost with a mild cam. It’s a daily. Next purchase is a forged crank to go with my 408 stroker pistons.
Love the ZJ as a 90s kid and the big 5.9 naturally aspirated sounds so good and clean, theyre rare to find these days. then the trackhawk is a crazy powerhouse with super slick styling and equipment, not sure which one id rather own!! great vid 💯
I have 4.7 WJ, and I have to say, maybe they have 1/4 of the power of modern supercars, but that 1st gear is so aggressive you will get off the line the fastest all the time. And if you drive some people, they feel like "woow, this pulls like a jet plane". And yes, they are super comfortable. You can even get used to that sway. My rear sway bar is totally loose in bushings, and it's still fine, just a matter of habit. 5.9 without muffler and cat sounds bruuutaaaal...
@@jehadhjaya2767 well, I'd say the power is there, question is what about gears. But it's not a problem to modify the gearbox anyways so I'd say yes. But I would never try that. Better question would be "if I get stuck in traffic jam on a highway, can I drive through the forest on my right side and cross that river?" Haha
Should have thrown in an 08 ish srt8 for an over all comparison ,none the less still a good comparison maybe a separate video coming 😛then a drag race comparison lol
Although it's 245 hp, the torque is 472nm, but the stupid 4-speed transmission kills the torque of this car, and if they put a 5-speed transmission, this car will become much faster.
It’s hard for me to like the ZJ, I want to so badly because they’re so nice and affordable... it’s like an XJ and a WJ had a baby, and the hood resembles a door wedge. Other than that they seem really nice.
The Trackhawk is amazing but the 5.9 ZJ is literally my childhood.
Lol we have a Jeep xj and it’s prolly the closest I’ll ever get to a 5.9 zj

I absolutely love the 98 5.9 my wife had one and we put a brand new 5.9 in and it was a tank in the snow
5.2, 445000 км.
The 5.9 limited Jeep was arguably the best luxurious American vehicle you could buy in the 90’s.

I think they are collectors since now, but people is blind, they need to see one in a big movie or a tv to hype them.
5.9 for life! Everything on mine is modded one way or another and looks stock, so its not too annoying to drive. I surprise people around corners lol

I think a better comparison would've been the first gen SRT8 but I understand this is about the first versus the latest rather than the stop gap
Well throw the TrackHawk in the mud and water and lets see if she can actually live up to the 5.9 (and 5.2) GC heritage. They were very good offroad.
