andralfo In technical skill Franz Liszt is probably better, If you where to adk who made better music 8/10 would say Mozart. I prefer Liszt because how overly dramatic he makes it.
Liszt had really big hands, i can really barely reach 10th, sometimes 9th in faster tempos can tire me.. Reaching high intervals, big jumps, massive accords, it's all what Liszt wanted to make the "3-hand effect" .. But for those, who have smaller hands, to play this piece as right as was written is impossible and in this piece sadly even with broken accords.
Cow Norris Actually, it was known that Liszt could comfortably reach a 12th. He was probably able to play all of his own pieces with ease (and every other piano piece, other than the hammerklavier).
lygazvbx 'it was known'? wtf is that suppoed to mean? From as far as I know, "it was known", in the book "The Great Pianists" by Harold Schoberg stated that his hand span was a 10th.
***** Pick up a Liszt biography. Liszt was able to play the hammerklavier, and he was well known for being the first to perform it in public since Beethoven wrote it. However, it took him a considerable amount of time to learn and practice the piece. Liszt could sightread almost every other piece that was played in concerts at the time, even Islamey.
***** Hmm if you were offended, then I apologize. But I meant no hostility in my explanation, and am not really sure how you got that idea from my response. I was just trying to explain what I've read before.
I always think that the way that Franz Liszt compose is impressive, and his style of difficulty is so unique and different. After these original pieces I still think maybe he was trying to write an incredible piece as hard as possible but keep each note unique and stylish. After that, perhaps he cannot even play it, then he was trying to rearrange it to make it possible to play but still hard to accomplish. I think that's how Franz Liszt composes his music.
@@babygirl4169 He never played his variation of Paganini No.4 piece in public and when he played some clip he never raises as the tempo he wrote that's what I meant. Also, I was saying the way he composes, not that he cannot play, is that I realised all his sketch pieces were insanely hard but the final version is quite easy, so that's why I came with this idea.
Fun fact: some years ago when i played 2 - 3 hours a day i was so obsessed with the part from 2:34 - 2:49 that i practiced this part to thr point where i could play it the same speed as nikolai petrov so like 3/4 of the speed in this video. Fact time Liszt had one of the best piano techniques of all time and huge hands (could reach 12ths). Hence he could play the piece. P.S. I know that the comment was meant as a joke. Don't woosh me
I'm starting to question Liszt's humanity, well in a good way not a bad way. Mostly because this piece is truly INSANE! Not just this piece either, but many, many others! I mean I know he's a true virtuoso but not even a title like that could compare to his skill!
nikolai is probably the only peson in the universe that can play this version, but the tempo was much slower,i Highly doubt that lizst could really play it.
I've been practicing this for a year and its fast and furious, most would say that it sounds like a professional recording (except some speed fluctuations and changes in dynamics to give the song a dramatic effect and my own personal touch) but it is almost impossible to perfect. The polyrhythms at the end are good, entire variation eleven is really good (fast, no staccato at beginning) variation 8 I speed up a bit (as everyone does) but variation 6? Never can be as fast as the rest of the piece IF I play it without mistakes. This dream of playing it perfect will never happen for anyone just cause of damn variation 6 and 11. It takes two very different skillsets to one of them somewhat correct let alone perfect. I've always been quick with right and left hand movement and even arpeggios, but the jitter you have to do to play variation 6 at the same speed as the rest is possible, but very unlikely when playing the correct notes and rhythms. Some people would say I have perfected this and I would say I'm as close as anyone could get to it, but I know that I will never play it perfect. That is why the Liszt/Paganini grandes etudes are so difficult and intriguing, it's a complex piece that you can practice forever and always improve on. If someone was to perfect the etudes they would lose the wonder, awe and fascination surrounding them. Only a few people can play it right, (don't listen to this version if you want to actually listen to the song, its there for visual appeal) and I am proud to say I am one of them.

Is this the original 1838 version of the Etude?
Kawaii Senpai no... how do you even make that conclusion?
Kawaii Senpai um.. that doesn't answer the question .-.
Nope I don't think so
no the original was composed by niccolo paganini
Yes, the original version in 1838, and then simplified by Liszt himself in 1850s after it was said to be too difficult
Now you Try! (Really don't) you'll get a heart attack

If I start practicing this piece with a truly dedicated will, am I gonna succeed to play it within my lifetime?
Inhyeok Lee Maybe, just maybe, but remember many pianists have played for decades many hours everyday and are not close to playing these songs at these tempos.
