Why not double click on word, grab onto the little green cross and bring down to your eclipse? Wording grabs on and is now that shape. A lot easier and faster.
I love this tutorial. I've watched it a few times because the steps arent quite ingrained in my head yet. So once we are comfortable using the outside of the elipse to cut off portions of the lettering, how do we do it using the inside of the elipse to get the football shape etc.... ?
I'm a newbie and I can't figure out how to make an ellipse with just an outline. Mine always has a fill in it. Could you please tell me how to do this? I'm using version 4.1.

Sorry for the delay in replying (finishing grad school)! The space was just from the space between the words when I typed them. You can try a smaller offset or adding an extra space when typing.
Thanks! To see the crosshairs, go to the View menu. "Show crosshairs" should be there! I have Designer Edition, so if you don't see it and are on the free version that could be why.
Hmm, I've never heard of that happening. Have you tried selecting the area to see if it has become "invisible," meaning clear fill and clear outline? Try select all and change the line color to black.
