  • With tear down and a thorough detail, the KAON Prado is ready for it's rebuild. First things first, let's start with one of the first places many 4X4 owners do, and that's on the roof.
    In this episode, we'll also take you behind the scenes on developing a couple of concept products specifically designed for the build that we might bring to market in time as well.

    Wow! I'm really excited about the upcoming rear window mount you guys are releasing. I'm planning to mount solar panels on my rear windows, and these new KAON rear window mounts for the Prado 150 will be perfect. When are you expecting to have them available?

      Hey Ethan! We're glad to hear you liked the External Window Panels! These are a proper prototype at the moment-we decided to let the cat out of the bag and put them on the build. This lets us start doing some real-world testing while also getting feedback from customers on what they want to use it for and what their concerns are. Knowing you want to use them for solar is exactly the kind of feedback we're seeking.
      We'll have more updates as time goes on! But for now, buckle in, we have more prototypes for testing going on the 150 ;)

    I am still not fully convinced by the new Prado's arrival. Yes, it will be new and flashy, but with no long-range tank and what is being described as underpowered and very expensive for what it is. I have a feeling, not many people aren't going to swap from their 120's and 150's. Especially since you guys are just bringing out brilliant quality products that keep extending add functionality and quality. Watching this series of films very intently, knowing that your 150 build will inspire many to keep and modify what is one of the best touring cars ever created. Very exciting, Team Kaon. I can't wait until the next video.

      Thanks for the kind words! We're intrigued by the 250's arrival and do have one on order for product development so we can continue to create products for customers well into the future. But the trusty 150 won't be going anywhere anytime soon and still has many years of life, and product opportunities, left. ;)

    Like the roof rack and accessories, will probably get your max trax mounts, they look nice.
    What weight for the roof are you using as the maximum all up for the Prado?
    Those rear window outside mounts look interesting. If you are going to make them suit a range of roof racks I can see a challenge there.
    We have an ARB base rack that is a lot wider than the back bone and sticks out quite a bit on each side, but gives us more space and your feet to not hit the Prado body when using a side ladder.
    It would be nice if you can get your hand [flat] behind the panel to clean the window if necessary, and make it easier to fit attachments
    Mud can accumulate under things like those window panels over time
    Can see these being very successfull if enough accessories are fitable
    I guess you can only go as wide as the mirrors, is that correct?

    • @KAONaust
      @KAONaust  Месяц назад +2

      All great points and questions!
      From memory the Prado has a 100kg load rating, so we'll be working to keep both well within that and the total vehicle GVM.
      Definitely will be a challenge to release the Exterior Panels for multiple vehicles - the adjustability for the variables across the market is going to be the biggest challenge, but not an impossible one. Even just within the Rhino there are various rack sizes and configurations available for the Prado, let alone the other rack makes on the market.
      We wanted to get a working prototype on the car for real-world testing. As this is a totally new concept for us, there are some unknowns with the method of attachment we've selected and nothing beats actually using it to learn what works.
      Extrusion laws for the side vary from state to state, so we're also currently gathering legislation from the appropriate bodies on this topic to fully inform what can be done.

      We may still do yet! We don't have clearance issues for the Prado, and it's also no ones daily - between trips it's stored full time in our warehouse. So while the Rackbrax is an awesome product we definitely recommend, it's not something we think is imperative for the uses we have for this Prado, yet ;)

    Great video mate, I'm about to do the same build, pioneer 6 on a 150 Prado. Already loaded with Kaon accessories, but will be getting that table mount! Any thoughts on the 1900 vs the 2100 platform? and do you know what the distance is from the top of the prado to the top of the platform with those spacers is? Just need to make sure it'll still fit in the garage!

    • @KAONaust
      @KAONaust  Месяц назад +1

      We preferred the 1900 long as it just felt a little more in proportion with the roofline, especially with some of the accessories we were looking to add. That said, the extra 200 could be incredibly useful if you're mounting some longer/bigger accessories. if we were going for a longer awning, say a 2700L one, the 2100 would have been a more suitable choice.
      The distance is a tricky one, there's no great spot to get a measurement from! If Rhino-Rack have any dimensions available on the standard rack height, these spacers (which we source from Rhino) add just 10mm.
