In this week's episode, we turn our attention to the 12 Volt setup in the Prado. While mostly hidden away, getting your electrical setup right is important. The Prado doesn't need a huge solar setup, but we do want our system to work seamlessly and reliably. We also want to be able to troubleshoot challenges and adjust our setup as the car evolves. Plus, a few little luxuries along the way don'...

EVERYTHING you need to know - Rear Door Tables, Cages & Accessories FAQ
Does this work on the 120 series? If not do you make on for the 120....
Absolutely love this. Excellent work guys. Super keen on the rear window mount and water storage solution. When do you plan on bringing it to market? Cheers.
When you do the sep by step can you put a price as you go
Great build I l have loved watching all the videos, well done. I have purchased the same 1900 x 1240 Pioneer 6 rack although I cannot access the Fitting Chart, to space out the underside rails, did you have any issues ?
I have bought KAON product for my Prado & like the engineering that goes into the product design & manufacture. With that said & out of the way - I’m not so much of a fan after watching this video. In essence you have created & installed so many products that now, there’s not enough payload left before reaching GVM for even the driver to legally get in it to drive it ffs. 🙄👎 Yes, now you’re going to have to do a GVM upgrade to be able to get you & your family in it legally to stay under max gvm. The upgrade MIGHT get you enough extra payload (500kg?) to actually fit your family into the vehicle legally again BUT, it still wouldn’t be legal to tow much if anything at all. The Max Towing limit on the later model 150 Prados after 2020 is 3 tonne, which means a 300kilo tow ball download, which has to be carried by the vehicle - out of its remaining payload capacity. So if you are already out of payload for even the driver, and you gain 500kilo extra payload by a GVM upgrade, then 4 passengers at 90 kilo each is 360kilos 300 kilos towball download & your already over your GVM again - so illegal to tow the max tow limit caravan. The simple facts are, you have “too much of a good thing! You’ve effectively bolted too much stuff onto the car to make it legally and logically useable on the road. I get it that it’s your business and maybe not everyone will opt to buy every KAON product and bolt it on as you have, in this video, however, in this instance it looks “over done” if you ask me. I’m reminded of the way that Indian truck drivers like to accessories & decorate their trucks, it’s a bit of a cultural thing. In this case I think this video does your company a slight disservice, in that it’s “over done”, to the point of not even being legal without spending $ thousands to upgrade the suspension & brakes for a GVM upgrade. And even then it’s no longer suited to towing basically. I’d class this as a fail myself. Again, I’m a happy KAON customer, so trying to give constructive criticism, not trying to troll you or tall poppy prune you for your deserved success. I think myself, part of the build process with customising a vehicle is knowing when to stop. In this case I think that point was reached with all the extra under body weight & a lot of the exterior add ons. My 2c
Wow, awesome selection! Great engineering.
Does the battery bracket fit on the stock battery that comes with the Prado? the stock one has all those little caps to re-fill it. Looks like those angled parts might hit them.
Does Kaon (ie transmission cooler in particular ) has an authorized dealer in the USA? Also do the mounting brackets fit on the Lexus GX 460? Thank you for your assistance.
Hi there, We don't think the brackets will work for the GX460, as it's not diesel and the petrol models in our experience usually have their own factory cooler. You might be able to make it work, but it would not be plug and play.
I didn’t realize how good a white truck can look with the proper built! You did a great job!.
Thank you! It scrubbed up pretty good!
The Rear Roof Shelf is the most useful storage area, from memory that was a 1 Beer Job 😎
You have a good memory ;)
Hi Tin, Perhaps a silly question: If I have a roof shelf already installed and want to install the cargo barrier, will I need to remove the roof shelf first or is it possible to install the barrier whilst the shelf is already in place? Thank you!
Hi there! It depends on which shelf you have. Assuming you have a Prado 150, we recently (Last 12 months) redesigned the Standalone Shelf so that it's handle brackets include nutserts to attach the Cargo Barrier to. If you have this model (KS0640) you do not need to uninstall the Shelf to install the barrier. If you have the older Shelf model, you will need to remove the shelf so you can layer the Cargo Barrier handle brackets.
Very good and informative video
Thanks Peter!
Anyone know if the jdm prado 2023 comes standard with a transmission cooler, as i seem to have another coolant reservoir right side of the existing engine coolant..unless this is the egr coolant reservoir?
Do you have plans to make these for the 100 Series IFS?
Potentially in time! But it's not on the development roadmap at present.
@@KAONaust that’s disappointing but I understand, thanks for the reply
Please 🙏 make one of these for the 100 Series IFS
Rivet nut m5, but what lenght?
Looks great guys, well done. Can you tell me what you used to mount your UHF radio hand piece inside the cab?
Great work have loved watching the build.
Thank you!
I dunno about all that additional weight swinging off the door mount
Thats fair, you need to assess the condition of your vehicle and setup. We haven't experienced any issues, but you can always pick and choose which options suit you most - having all of them in tandem like this is not what we typically see.
Very nice mounts Looking forward to your external rear window mounts for the ARB Baserack, Hoprfully
Thanks Mark!
Liking the rear wheel center hub rack... but .... what about the rear camera ??? Which is in the center of the wheel ?? 2023 model ??
Kaon do a Reversing Camera Relocation Bracket
Swagging sisters got it - we relocated it to below the tyre, bottom left. If you head to our Reversing Camera Relocation Bracket, you can see how we do that.
@@KAONaust Yep we know, we have your relocation bracket 😊👍🏼
Won't be long before Toyota starts making Prados as an accessory to all your parts. 🙂
Very convenient for the gas and maxtrax, but how easy is it to remove the spare when needed?
Undo the ratchet strap and the tyre mount / gas bottle can come off, and the hub mount is just two bolts. It doesn't add much to the process, given how infrequent tyre changes are for most.
Tin, I found with hub and max trax mounted, there is a fair bit rotational flex around the z axis- it looks like the outer part of hub mount is secured to the inner part with one bolt each side rather than 2 each side to stop that tendency to rotate?
Hey there, do you have a gap between your hub mount and the tyre? We usually suggest seating the mount so that it is braced against the rubber, which should prevent any rotation.
@@KAONaust I will check but I think it might be next to impossible to tighten the bolt securing the 2 pieces together - it’s already pretty tight with spaces as it was
Noice!
Fiiiiiiirst!
Mate that looks shit hot .
Thank you!
Would 100% buy those steps and tanks if you did them for the FJ too 👌🏻😎
Would the tank cover up the KDSS adjustment box that sits on the passenger?
One step ahead of the game again.

Outstanding work guys, just installed the rear table and storage system. That Molle rear window storage interests me but particularly wonder if the opportunity is on the one side where the wheel is already covering up the view 👍👍
I just installed mine thinking that I was future proofing my Prado since it only has 8000km on it. It's already made a difference.
We're glad to hear it!
Thanks for all the help Tim! Without your services I wouldn't have made it up to the cape this year with my family. Cheers.
So glad to hear you've managed to get out there and make memories. At the end of the day, that's what it's all about!
Great video Tim!
Good Job Tim, great video great bloke!! Have had the pleasure of wheeling with this wonderful human with TLCC and can’t sing enough praise!!
Couldn't put it better ourselves!
Bit different to those old wedding/portrait days mate LOL!!! - I've got a fair bit of Kaon gear on my 150 mate - will be back for some more soon - the olll girl has 360,000kms on her and I just had to replace the turbo - 5 1/2 bigies Tim - you've got some interesting gear being tested for the 150's Tim - exciting times ahead for us 150 drivers mate.
Love this - awesome human! Thanks Tim for taking the time last week to educate and show me around. Greatly appreciated!
Tim is extremely knowledgeable and helpful, and a great guy as well. 👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks it May solved my Jimny problem. I am using both mount and adjustable panhard. Facing problem of rear stability.
Well done, It is a good idea. You can also see my water tank and refilling method on my Prado
Love the attention to practical use of hardware with consideration to ascetics. Really nice work. Ps the giggling camera operator is the best!
Could these be used on other brands of racks?
Could you please explain the 3d scanner model?
How much inches lift need the diff drop?
Hi Guys, I've just done this conversion, the instructions were very easy indeed, thank you! What I would say, is that it would have been nice to bring the shroud for the camera to the bracket to protect the camera, also a clear film that you could overlay or just under the incar display to indicate where the new centre reversing line would be! I've used a labelling machine and stuck mine to the black border of the touch screen!!
I need a guard to protect the windscreen washer bottle
Does anybody know what the rims and tyre specs are?
Wheels are Method, tyres don't know.
One for Tin - for your DCDC under the bonnet (assuming) - what fuse did you use in the fuse box for an ignition source?
I just checked my 07 GXL 120 V6 and realised it already has a factory external Trans cooler mounted on the Left (passenger) side and that is also where the entry/exit points to the internal cooler inside the radiator are. One line from the trans goes direct to the upper connection on the radiator, the other line from the Trans goes direct to the external cooler, the lower connection for internal cooler goes direct to the external cooler to complete the circuit. The factory external trans cooler is smaller than the cooler product you show in this video for the 150 conversion. My question is it worth switching out the factory cooler for a larger version like yours? or just leaving existing factory cooler as it is?
