USA had a great olympics. The powerful USA team won 52 medals, 21 gold, in 29 events. Australia got the second place winning 8 medals, 3 gold. And the USSR team had also won 8 medals, but no gold. Swimming results gave the overall title to USA in medal tally in 1968 olympics. USA won 107 medals against 91 medals from Soviet Union.
I was reading about Mexico Olympics when I was a child(Soviet Olympic Engiclopedy),during the 80's,the truck and fields records amazed me,especially Bob Beamon making a 8,90 m,as for swimming results,they have improved so much since,mostly because of technology and new methods of training.

USA's athletes won 121 medals in total, 50 medals more than second placer China. It was the largest margin between the first and second placers in medals totals since 1932 olympics. But we cannot count the boycotted games from 1980 and 1984.
