Zen practice (and zazen) can be absolutely life-changing. As a practitioner myself, it was nice to hear Adam describing in words, something everyone can experience in this brief life.
Yeah beautiful explanation here. I don’t personally practice zen but have been on a few vipassana retreats and the experience can be similar to what he describes. That quieting of the mind and the feeling of interconnectedness and the easeful joy at the simple witnessing of the way things are.
Man absolutely. I think that adapting eastern thought by using English words is very very important. It makes it so much easier to understand for everybody if you don't have to memorize a bunch of new words.
I feel like he's describing about entering a flow state . (connecting dots here "joy not connect to anything","infinite passage from moment to moment","this is the experience","riding the breathe","self drops away and there's kinda of a raw presence").
No it's not love. This year is my 50 anniversary of meditating. I believe but cannot prove that it's the how and why love should exists that's the great meaning. Best Wishes
There is no observer. This is the biggest misconception. There is observing. There is being. There is no self. Thought is aware of thought, yet there are no thoughts. There is in truth, only being awareness. Here is a simple pointer. Awareness is aware of being formless. Awareness is aware of the formless aspect. There is no formless aspect. Why? Because the formless aspect is awareness. Awareness is aware of being formless. There is no awareness that is aware of being aware. It is awareness that is aware of being (formless) that is the illusion labelled as consciousness. Consciousness is the formless aspect of being awareness. What is the formless aspect of consciousness? Form (thought, emotion, feelings, and the world of the senses) is the formless aspect of consciousness. What is awareness the formless aspect of? Awareness is the formless aspect of being present. So, this begs the question - what is being present the formless aspect of? From the point of view of being present (awareness), there is no answer possible from consciousness, form, nor either from being present! Blank. Null. Void. This is Zen. Observing observing.
People love to brag and impress with the hours they sit. In truth a real meditator does not stop paying attention when the formal sitting stops. When you cultivate mindfulness in way that's continues from the moment you open your eyes until you fall a sleep then everything becomes meditation. If you only pay attention during formal sitting then the mind scatters throughout the day and progress will be very slow and eventual will come to a halt. Its like planting a fruit tree. If you want it to bear fruit, you can not plant it and then every next day pull it out and plant it again and again. It will never bear fruit. You have to plant it and let it grow until the fruit is ripe.
@@nagodio bro just wanna ask. I tried TM (first time) before I went to sleep and repeat the mantra aum in my head. I felt relax, but it's not that significant, just very little. When I went to sleep, I entered like an hypnagogia state, and felt 2 hands rubbing my head, then I forcefully woke up. What happened? Did TM cause that?

This is how you introduce zen to the public! By the friendly guy, by the way, using normal words (instead anatta, anicca, dharma and duckha)
Man absolutely. I think that adapting eastern thought by using English words is very very important. It makes it so much easier to understand for everybody if you don't have to memorize a bunch of new words.
@@estebanvprado Do you need spoon-feeding like a baby bird?
@@estebanvpradoAssuming those English words are skillful translations, or even representative, of the original.
I like this guy’s attitude
I feel like he's describing about entering a flow state . (connecting dots here "joy not connect to anything","infinite passage from moment to moment","this is the experience","riding the breathe","self drops away and there's kinda of a raw presence").
"I feel like..."?
@StimParavane "what do you think"?
@@dill6827 You are referring to samadhi which is not the goal of zazen.
that dude is a vibe
A zen practitioner that's drinking a Nitro Cold Brew. Yes!! He gets it. That is Zen.
I hope Adam Frank makes a book about Zen someday.
WOW. What an amazing conversation!
Pleasure and joy. Not the same 😊
great content! sitting with oneself is nonexistent in this day and age.
Actually, there are quite a lot of Zen practitioners, not to mention all the Tibetan Buddhist centres around the world.
More of this please
seems like a great dude
Lex, you really need to do a Thomas Hübl retreat/workshop
what does he refer to at 8:30 when talking about having more space?
hippocampal space? metaphorically about dealing with emotions?
I believe he refers to emotions. You leave space to emotions and just let them be (which also implies to accept them, let them come & go)
So positive, I love it 😇😈🫳🏻
If u close your eyes, his voice sounds like bishop Barron but talks a little faster.
No
Agreed!
Yes, great catch!
Your negative emotions will dissolve in pure awareness...
that guy is cool. he'd make a good friend n stuff.
Love❤. Perfect
It's not about you.. So, do for others.
Become your best version and encourage others to do the same, by example and mindfulness
Many ideas about zen- let go of the ideas and go sit at your local zen center. The experience is not your idea.
I very much agree with what you are saying here. "The only learning is self-learning" - Jon Kabat Zinn
No it's not love. This year is my 50 anniversary of meditating. I believe but cannot prove that it's the how and why love should exists that's the great meaning. Best Wishes
Why should love exist?
And sometimes its self compassion
Yes, this.
❤

How the hell do you sit from 7am to 9pm meditating, without having to use the restroom?
Vipassana 10 day retreat
No talking no mobile
10 hours per day meditation
It's not continuous -- there are breaks. You also eat (though you do sitting in your place in the zendo), and there are periods of walking meditation.

He said with breaks. You don listen 😅
It’s the meditation that is no meditation
Random guy: what’s wrong with my shoes 😭
💀
Does he not sound exactly like bishop Barron but on a few more cups of caffeine?! 😂
🌹❤
He is trying to be Zen without realising he was all along
This guy doesn’t seem that zen tbh, friendly yes but also quite neurotic.
I can teach you transcendental meditation if anyone wants …
Free?
@ yeah! Why charge! I know it cost 1500 USD in the states , I learned it in India from a old guru!
