Why anyone would drop over 100k for a truck with obvious design flaws and quality issues is beyond me. Wealthy people problems
It’s ok but the tonneau cover issue they kept making a big deal about was because it needed calibration in the service menu. They probably shifted it while toying with it but they should know how to fix it. On the other hand, Tesla shouldn’t hide calibration in the service menu. Also, the people who walked up show how misinformation about Tesla is still mainstream. They also don't understand the best part is no part design philosophy for reliability and the part where the wiper doesn't reach is up by the sun visor.

Exactly - me neither at 5-11. Also, and this is getting old, to be fair put it in entry mode - you have it in a higher suspension mode. Also - you fail to acknowledge what you get with the higher sides in the back: More volume under cover - that you can't get with any other truck. I am not saying that is better, but design choices always have their cons and pros.
You don’t need to be able to touch the bed to get most things in it. But with the CT over 50% of the bed is completely unreachable by going over the side.

I'm right with you. That goes for not just the vehicle, but any new tech. It seems pretty universal that second generation is worlds better than first.
I’m a ram 2500 guy. I have a cybertruck reservation. My reservation email came this week. I have decided to pass on buying it. Three reasons for not acting on my reservation: they put in too small a battery to tow a utility trailer the distance I need and I do tow. The rear seat head room is way too short, such that my 6’2” head is real close to the glass roof and that should never be the case for a full size truck. It is overpriced for the foundation series and I feel won’t hold its value. There are so many other things that it has that are very nice, like the payload, steering, and ride comfort and ride modes, not to mention the fsd when it gets it, but the negatives are just not overcome by the positives for my use case and taste. I am planning on getting a model 3 performance for my everyday commuter and keeping my ram 2500 for hauling and towing and any trips that include dirt roads.
I reserved the base $40k version with 250 miles range, the $80k version is barely beating that in real world driving. I think i am just a used extended range Lighting
The problem with the high air suspension is that it makes the truck completely inflexible and thus zero articulation when off-roading. Compare to the setup on the Rivian and how they got around this.
@@markplott4820 Yes, but many are to Look-At-Me people and would buy anything that Tesla sells regardless of quality, functionality, and price. $20k premium suckers. It is new and there is a backlog. Lot of used ones on CarGurus getting cheaper by the week. The fit and finish is awful as shown in this video.
The Rivian has a 4-1/2' bed and the CT bed is only 6' for a few inches at the bottom & 5.5' at the top so it is only 20% longer. The high ground clearance is compromised by that cyberdiaper.
@@sudeeptaghosh it’s a vehicle not a knife. There’s a reasonable expectation that you would be safe walking and reaching into an area of the frunk. Therefore getting cut is negligence on the part of Tesla.

And I love it when you guys do older car truck reviews besides new. I remember the Suzuki samurai series
Add a camper? Put a 17’ canoe on top. Dirt bike or quad. Remove tailgate? A load of sand in the back with the power outlets. This “truck” works great at the strip mall.
For FSD on the CT please remember this is the first vehicle to not have mechanical linkage to the wheels. That has a whole host of challenges for the FSD software stack that HAS to work. So it will take time as it's not just flipping a switch like it would be for normal drive shaft vehicles with just different dimensions.
Why does steer by wire make FSD any harder? The computer decides what angle it wants the wheels to turn to, and a motor makes that happen. Just like electric power steering with a normal mechanical rack. Whether or not the steering wheel turns via a metal rod when the rack moves makes no difference to FSD as far as I can see.
I'm no fanboy of Tesla (drive an FJ Cruiser w/250K miles) but isn't this their first Truck... GM, Ford, and RAM have been selling Trucks for over 100 YEARS...Tesla has been selling Trucks for 26 WEEKS (Nov 2023)...So Tesla better NOT have a better Truck.
@@markplott4820 LMAO because the CT was on sale 6 months before the Silverado EV was on sale to the general public. The cybertruck can barely break 300 miles range while the silverado can do over 400
@@JD-yx7beI’m a fanboy but also a critical observer. The cybertruck is the first Tesla to overpromise and underdeliver. What was promised: [for three motor] 6 seat, 14k lbs tow, 3500 payload, 500+ mile range and $70k price tag. What we got: 5 seat, 11k lbs tow, 2500 payload, 302 mile range and $120k price tag. Yes Tesla failed in virtually every important metric. Range being the most important as an EV owner. Maybe it will change with the battery pack, but it kinda defeats the purpose of a trunk bed/payload. On flip side affecting the vehicle production: covid nonsense, 28-30% inflation (across the board), supply shortages, battery chem shortfalls etc that affects how much time to redesign things.
18:48 you remember how T-tops fell out of fashion because they leaked too much? possibly the same thing is going on here. the structure might not be able to maintain it's "square-ness" and in the T-top that would cause leaks, in this that would cause the cover to jam.
The wiper stops at the bottom, so they say, to prevent splash up from the wiper returning to its upright position. I don't know if I buy that but that's what "They" say.
I have to say this about the rear view camera. Looking through a mirror, one can easily have a perception of depth and visually focus on a depth of field. A video representation of what is behind you is NOT the same as looking through a mirror (you younger folks will understand this better as you get older 😀). Those of us with corrective lenses (especially those of us with bifocals) have a difficult time looking at videos that are up higher than our eyes because to get a clear view of the picture we have to look through the lower part of our glasses...so we're always craning our neck to see the video when the picture is at mirror height. When it is LOWER than our eyes, we can easily glance down through the bifocal part of our glasses to clearly see the image. I'm pretty sure this isn't why Tesla put the image where it is, and that it's a cost savings thing, but I would honestly prefer it on the main screen than up high where the rear view mirror resides. Just my .02 cents.
It’s worth noting in addition to the BSM near the speaker, the BSM video on the screen would light red or have a red highlight. I find that more useful. Well, don’t know if the CT has it but other Teslas do an I am safely assuming the CT has it. The vehicle icon would light red as well. A few options…
Ah good ole TFL with their go-to strategy … good cop bad cop. No matter what team you’re on you’ll find stuff you want to hear. A friend loved ragging on the Bolt when the battery issue began a few years back. I sent him an article on a recall at the time; Ford Expeditions and Navigators were being recalled for gas line issues where you would drive somewhere and fires would start from fuel from the hot engines. Six or seven thousand Fords and Lincolns and nearly one hundred thousand Chevy Bolts recalled, and the actual total incidents at the time were around 20. - What am I saying? Don't listen to policos and conspiracy theorists and haters. Electric vehicles are different, yes. The Tesla is an example of an innovative new vehicle that has a lot of issues despite the extended timeline in it's creation. However, most new EVs these days are well made and have less issues per vehicle than many ICE vehicles. I believe that there is a place for ICE vehicles and there are also many people who can benefit from owning an EV. I also believe that hybrid technology is a better use of resources and technology than EVs . . . and improvement in fuel economy in cars, SUVs and trucks benefits the manufacturer AND the owner over the long term. I think Nathan is ready for that move to LA after this interview with the annoying and often abrasive Roman. - OMG, Roman, bigger is not necessarily better! The Rivian is a much better truck at this point. TFL has owned/driven the Lightning, Rivian and Cybertruck. How is this better than the other two?!
My wife and I have 2 Model Ys, and we've never had a problem. And no uneven panel gaps or fit and finish problems. They've been perfect. Build quality in Teslas have improved a lot in the last few years. ..... In all the CT reviews I've seen, I've never seen a problem with the cover, rather praise about how it works.
The Rich Rebuild video on these is great and brings up the point that the lower spec version should be tax credit eligible towards the end of the year making it possible to buy new at $72k which will crush the resale market further.
It has a very long wheelbase so it needs a lot of ground clearance to get a good breakover angle. But the long wheelbase and high ground clearance means it has great approach and departure angle for a full size truck, the only issue is that the suspension is too stiff.
Much like how Tommy and Roman have gotten me to like land rovers, Roman has opened my eyes to start to think about maybe appreciating the cyberturck! Thanks Roman and TFL for the education and as a car guy, having a new car to learn about
Not used to your videos being so long, I dosed off at some point after your started driving it and woke up at the end lol. Missed about 20 minutes I think. I don't mind standing out with my vehicles, I have had a bright yellow Super Bee, and any time I stop to charge my Harley Livewire I always end up getting approached from people. I don't think I would buy a Cybertruck though. I would love to see one in person and maybe test drive one but I don't think I would want to own one. I would rather spend the money on any of the other electric trucks to be honest.
Rivian's bed is 4.5', not 4'. Some reviewers online have done a moving box test with all three electric trucks, to include the Lightning, the Rivian, and the Cybertruck. The Rivian and the Cybertruck hold the same amount. This is due to how the Cybertruck's bed is angled. That angle significantly impacts how much it can actually hold in reality. It is also tapered from front to back which also hampers its loading capacity. The Lightning holds the most. You all should do a similar test. You could do one with lumber and another one with moving boxes.
@@Abebe345Only one sheet. The sharp slope means every sheet in the stack sticks farther back. Cybertruck akso has a very narrow bed. It's actually rather useless as a truck.
Starting to see Cybertrucks here in Saint Louis. They look even better in person. At least its reliable...I remember that Hummer EV pick up broke down on you guys.
Foundation Series are the beta trucks. Tesla will likely make some hardware mods (in large part based on consumer feedback): - Optional rolling tonneau cover - Optional towing mirrors - AC outlets in the front trunk - Access to the bed (non-rolling tonneau cover models) - Folding/power rear tailgate window - Redesigned windshield wiper - Rear bumper camera - Relocation of charge port to the rear tailgate panel (possible) - Steering wheel options - Front/center console bench seat option The Model Y has undergone several revisions (since 2020), to include single piece front and rear subframes (which no other automaker has been able do design, develop and implement within the span of 3yrs. CT will likely follow suit, one of the many advantages Tesla has by being so vertically integrated 🤔. On the other hand, Foundation Series will quickly decline in value (as early as next quarter), when the 79K CT becomes available (possibly to include a $7,500 rebate 🤔). Early adopters were basically fleeced for FSD at 12K, when it has been price dropped to 8K (and the rest of the fleet received a 1 month free trial at that 😵💫). The Rivian R1T/S appear to be the better value, yet the CT’s PowerShare feature is by far it’s best quality (basically a rolling powerwall 🤔).
It looks like the roll top is one tooth off from drivers side to passenger side. Was it like that when picked up. Your team has been putting this truck through its off road paces, in Moab, so perhaps the vibrations and twists the chassis was put through, allowed mechanism to slip a tooth!
What over $100K for Body issues Fit and finish not done out of factory line? The Bed is useless to use. Back glass is covered. I would not take if I had interest. I'd go GM first and VW... for EV..
I give Tesla and Elon a lot of credit for making this. Something different and very unique. The problem is that you can't charge $100,000 for a vehicle and have that bad of bill quality. The fit and finish is just horrendous. And it's not like Tesla's is not a new company this shouldn't be happening they shouldn't be producing Vehicles this poorly built.
I saw one at a car show last week, and sat in it etc. The build quality is very cheap, and the panel alignment is weird in spots. For $100,000 you can get one a Luxury trim fully loaded of the other 3 big truck makers. They need to up the build and material quality. The tech is impressive though.
Great job, good video, one big thing that everyone misses is the fact that this truck is tough, so tough that it will out last ever other truck on the market, get use to seeing it as it will be around for a long long time.
Personally, the price doesn’t match the quality. That can be said of some of the close-to-$100K domestic truck models too. (how trucks have gotten so ridiculously high in price is beyond me). The Cybertruck reminds me of a truck version between the DeLorean and Robocop. Overall, I’m not against someone purchasing one. I would be intrigued to take a closer look, but I prefer a combustion engine truck. I can work on those still, plus I like the smell of oil on my hands after changing it (no rubber gloves), the diesel exhaust smell on my 6.7 (pre-DEF), and being hands on with my 17 and 72 250’s. As always, TFL offers a really well-rounded and tested view of vehicles, and I always look forward to the various (new and old) model reviews, analysis, and trends.
The price is elsewhere... 48v, steer by wire, giga pressed castings with crumple zones, batteries, cameras/security, huge infotainment screen, FSD, and it being a Tesla which are known for being the safets tested vehicles on the road (like the Model Y which is the best selling in the world). Legacy Auto has none of that despite them being 100+ years old. Legacy Auto makers also have gaps and poor quality vehicles. They're not virtually integrated like Tesla either, which means they don't make all their parts and don't own the software in the vehicles that is so poor. And since they don't own the software, they have to contact company (A) to adjust the wondow software which can take months to a year (legal reasons) then they have to contact company (B) to change a safety setting and sometimes need companies A and B to agree on one thing before there can be a change in softwares. This is another reason why Ford and others lose money making vehicles or make just a little while Tesla makes 9 to 10k on each vehicle it sells. I think Tesla is doing great for being 16 years old.
I love you guys comparing vehicles together, it’s ALWAYS a good time…lol But in my opinion on the truck, I give Tesla props for FINALLY putting it out, but it’s definitely not for me. It’s a glamor piece, not a truck with poor quality control. If I had to choose an electric truck, right now it would hands down be the Silverado EV, especially with the trailboss coming!! Great content tho guys, I really hope you don’t get taken to the cleaners on resale next year.
The reason the wiper stays horizontal is to stop the water it wiped down to just blow back up in your vield of view . Keeping the wip[er down dorces the water to exit left or right of the wiper. The front hood lacks a channel for the wiped water to escape
My buddy bought one. I have only ridden in it. I don't hate it, but ... Yeah, I would never get one. Is it far cooler in person than I expected. And it has plenty of space in the back seat. The cyber truck works as a car, IMHO. As a truck... not so much. It fills the same niche as an el camino. But a very expensive el camino.
23:02 if the infrastructure ever gets solved, and FCEV pickup would fix the range issue. it wouldn't be as stable as a BEV, but the average refill for an FCEV is 6 minutes. in that time you can get 400 miles of range in a "normal car", in a pickup towing. it would still be an 133 miles (assuming no bigger tank was installed), but the ability to refill that quickly would mean long stops would not be an issue.
I would love to see that power bed cover operate(or not) in an ice storm on the New Jersey coast. I am fascinated with the vehicle but some of its so called features just look neat but make "No" practical sense. As far as being able to reach over the bed sides or easily reach the forward section easily the Big Three lost that test 20 years ago.
For a 100k pickup truck it should handle excellent. This is no work of art for sure, this looks like an oversized Mandoline slicer and is unique, at best. The DeLorean, Plymouth Prowler, Chrysler PT Cruiser, Chevrolet HHR and Volkswagen Thing were probably seen as looking COOL at some point. I'm curious to see how long the COOL FACTOR last. I wonder what kind of door ding this thing would inflict on a mere mortal car that was unlucky enough to be parked next to it.
The only thing I wouldn't like about it is the steer by wire, what if it tears up going down the road, then what?! You know it will tear up one day and if you're on the road when it happens how would you steer it? If I owned one I couldn't drive it because I would be too worried about that all the time driving it.
Roman does sound a bit desperate in his defense of the Cybertruck. I don't trust Tesla enough to be comfortable with drive-by-wire. We'll see what happens the first time that fails at speed.
If I was recommending an alternative digital version to the rear mirror, I’d put incorporate it into the driver’s visor. Elon wants less parts and cost though, so that’s not happening any time soon, ideal for the after market guys though.
At the moment I think the order of best to worst is Silverado, Lightning, R1t then Cyber Truck. The first 3 aren't as polarizing, although there are a lot of people that don't like the lights on the R1T. The Silverado and the Lightning look like standard trucks. The Silverado is the range king. I think the Rivian has a 400 mile version that beats both Ford and the Tesla. All of them, visually, have a better interior than the Tesla when it comes to seats. I have a Model Y so I like the minimalist look but others may not care for that. On the Now You Know channel they show how the Cyber Truck has more onboard circuits to run equipment over the Ford but that the ford seems to have a better outlet placement throughout. As far as fit and finish there is NO excuse for Tesla Cyber Trucks to look that bad this late in their existence as a company. That being said there are others on the road with later vin numbers that show they have a near perfect fit and finish. But it still doesn't give them a pass for being bad out the gate.
The MSRPs are the biggest factor right now throttling the sales of EV trucks. The moment someone makes even a reasonably attractive and capable small EV truck for $30k......it'll wipe the floor with all of the above. If a Ford Maverick/Ranger EV was offered for $30k (after incentives), they wouldn't be able to build them fast enough to keep up with demand....at which point they would almost certainly pull the same bullshit Ford did with the Maverick and try to force people into more expensive trims at the threat of not building the truck they ordered. The problem is people want EVs, but they can't afford $50k+ toys. And manufacturers aren't about to even think about making anything that can't make AT LEAST 10% profit. So...unfortunately corporate greed will almost certainly prevent people from actually buying into EVs.
All those wheels need is an octagon cover with lug nut grippers to grab. The wheels look great as they are, just need a hub finishing piece. Hey aftermarket people, perhaps TFL can do. Some precise measurements so you can make a plastic and stainless steel possible with custom colors, even gold plating, to sell for the CyberTruck! Also an aftermarket company needs to design and produce a rear Camera windshield washer kit to install in the tailgate with a washer reservoir in the cubby hole or simple screws onto a RainEX bottle with a strap. For as often as it gets used, it could be a Bluetooth linked device, with a USB C Rechargable battery, so the owner can remove the pump head, cap the jug off, take it to a uSB Port probably in the truck, and recharge the battery in an hour, so it can last a month. The phone app would also be able to read the state of charge of the battery.
@cmiles97x38 Are you telling me that people should complain when they spend millions on a fixer upper? People buy cars for much more than the price of a cybertruck, which need work, just because they like it and want that specific vehicle. Let people spend their own money on what they want... what makes you think your opinion matters to them? I think pugs are ugly, but you don't see me searching pug videos and telling pug owners that I think their dog is ugly...
First off, the dual motor was $50k reveal price, not $40k. The Silverado isn't anywhere near its reveal price, either. Neither is the Lightning, even though it's closer. Too much money, I agree with, but the caveat that everything else in the range is also too much money.
The bandwidth of specs and features in this innovative yet polarizing design is an engineering masterpiece. Build quality, price and range will improve over the next months/years. This is the starting point and through software updates, this fully programmable platform will continue to evolve during your ownership. When Nathan gets to California, he's going to have a meltdown from all the cybertrucks.

@@JD-yx7bePlus the $40k version is actually $60k now and is 2wd and only tows 7500 lb.
The problem with the high air suspension is that it makes the truck completely inflexible and thus zero articulation when off-roading. Compare to the setup on the Rivian and how they got around this.

Chevrolet Silverado EV has 10 degree in the rear steer. The cybertruck originally was 3 degrees and maybe went to 7 degrees with a promise to 10.

@@markplott4820You can't put a 5th wheel in because the rediculous sails on the side. Tell me you know absolutely nothing about trucks.
Wow! I never expected Roman to be the one to like the CT. That is the biggest surprise.
Tesla had years to work on that before the Cybertruck debut.
Consumer reports also mentioned charging problems customers experienced.
It is stunning all the quality, alignment, and fit/finish issue with the first seveal thousand of these.

The wiper is meant to stay down when you hit the button. It prevents the liquid from flowing back up the windshield as you drive.
38:28 I get playing a bit but it's getting beyond silly, that upper part above it is quite obviously heavily tinted.
Agree with Nathan this is NOT a punk rock truck in any way. It’s about poor people and the life and struggles, not punk at all
what about driving the cybertruck when is dark? does the back up camera works even when the car behind you has the headlights on?
It’s worth noting in addition to the BSM near the speaker, the BSM video on the screen would light red or have a red highlight. I find that more useful. Well, don’t know if the CT has it but other Teslas do an I am safely assuming the CT has it. The vehicle icon would light red as well. A few options…

I appreciate that as an auto journalist you avoid the sensational headlines and have even handed reporting.
My 2005 Nissan Titan has the backup sensors, and being a new driver, they have been very helpful.

The suspension in this truck is anything but stiff. It's '69 Caddy soft!

Not true. You rarely fill up the bed with tall things. Cybertruck has a much bigger bed. It can hold 8x4 drywall with no overhang.
I have both rivian and Cybertruck. Ain’t no way you’re carrying just as much in the R1T as the CT lol
@@Abebe345Only one sheet. The sharp slope means every sheet in the stack sticks farther back. Cybertruck akso has a very narrow bed. It's actually rather useless as a truck.

Foundation Series are the beta trucks. Tesla will likely make some hardware mods (in large part based on consumer feedback):
- Optional rolling tonneau cover
- Optional towing mirrors
- AC outlets in the front trunk
- Access to the bed (non-rolling tonneau cover models)
- Folding/power rear tailgate window
- Redesigned windshield wiper
- Rear bumper camera
- Relocation of charge port to the rear tailgate panel (possible)
- Steering wheel options
- Front/center console bench seat option
The Model Y has undergone several revisions (since 2020), to include single piece front and rear subframes (which no other automaker has been able do design, develop and implement within the span of 3yrs.
Call me old but I believe simple is better. More gadgets more to break on your toys.
Great job, good video, one big thing that everyone misses is the fact that this truck is tough, so tough that it will out last ever other truck on the market, get use to seeing it as it will be around for a long long time.
Nothing tough about cast aluminum. Who cares that the skin is tough when the frame is weak?
@@newdrew2744 the panel gaps are nearly as bad as my beater 95 f150 that has been in multiple accidents

Rolling bed covers are notoriously troublesome.
But should not be… after just 1 month on a $100,000 truck!
Good show. Why not show different off-road environments comparisons. Like deep sand. Deep mud. Deep snow. …
Deep snow demos are probably coming eventually. They've owned the CT only one month.
42:53 Ferrari does the same thing. so while it's weird, it's not unprecedented.
I love the Cyber Ztruvk videos! My buddy will get one when he can. I can’t wait to experience his!
Just love the banter. ❤
Don’t ever fly in a plane then.
Teslas fitment/build quality is inexcusable at the price. My sub 40K 2024 Frontier is a Swiss watch by comparison. That’s saying something.
Roman is an attention seeking car diva. Cyber truck is perfect for him.
Hot take….I really like this truck. 😂 great video!
I will be keeping my 3500 AT4 for now.
It's funny how all the bad stuff are build quality issues that will be fixed by warranty, which means once fixed they have nothing to complain about.
Paying $100,000+ for an unfinished vehicle is worthy of complaint.
