    Judging by the amount of great feedback I receive for this video you guys seems to like it a lot but, for some reason, it goes almost unnoticed for the infamous "algorithm" of RUclips. So if you liked it and want to help me, please share it with your musicians friends, on social media, Reddit, etc. and show RUclips that it's worth reccommending. Thanks A LOT!!

    I was getting ready to buy a $250 reamp pedal. While researching, I came across your video and realizing I had a GE-7 sitting in a box thought i would try it. It worked perfectly! Also,. I used it in the "on" position and A/B'd my original signal and used the EQ to match my Les Paul exactly as if it was playing into the amp. Using a battery instead of the power supply seemed to give me a little cleaner sound, but maybe that is in my head. When using overdriven/distorted guitars, I leave that original clean guitar in to give the finished sound some definition. Thanks for saving me $$$$!

    THANK YOU SO FUCKING MUCH. I have been toiling over this problem for weeks and i just KNEW that there had to be solution utilizing equipment that i already own. my question is though, why doesn't anyone else seem to know about this? I have tried asking so many experienced people how to solve this problem and they all had literally no idea. I was literally about to buy a new interface and a passive reamp so you just saved me like 350 dollars and i am very grateful for that. now i can use outboard effects in real time with my production while monitoring simultaneously and i can't tell you how excited I am to get started.

    While I may end up buying a reamp pedal at some point, this video confirmed something major for me... there is a way to get a usable sound without the reamp box... I had done something similar and of course reading all the stuff out there (speaking of rabbit holes) had me questioning my ears. I think that's exactly the point. This video doesn't means that no one should buy a reamp box again, they are great and the "right" tool for the job, but in a home studio environment, to see if all the reamp thing fits your workflow or just to "try before buy" this can be really useful, specially for people with tight budgets. Thanks a lot for the subscription! I really apreciate it and helps the channel a lot! Cheers

    You are a legend, man. I'm replacing and modding equipment for bass and guitar and was really not looking forward to trying to A/B test and tweak everything with a guitar or bass in my hand and dealing with a computer, mixer, pedals, and amps and had totally resigned myself to a couple reamp boxes that I might use a couple times a year. This is a way better solution and I won't have to worry about the time or money it takes for used gear that may not work properly and take weeks to get here or new stuff that's gonna gather dust.

    Cool video!
    Do you happen to know if every boss pedal has the input/output buffers? I have a turbo overdrive, metal zone, and a eq20 twin. I read in a forum that in some boss pedals the buffers double as some kind of treble booster, in other posts that the buffers are not transparent, that they attenuate your low frequencies, also that there are different impedance buffers.
    Any way, bummer since i was looking for using this reamp method precisely to do a comparison between my amp sound with and without the bypassed eq on the signal path. Not a tone freak here (or maybe a bit of a freak but I try not to be a tone snob), but I did think i noticed that with the bypassed boss pedals my amp gets harsher (not in a good way) than with no pedals, the effect I heard seems to coincide with the theoretical effects caused by either a low end loss or I high end boost (as described) so I'd like a clear comparison to rule out the possibility of ear fatigue, but if i need a boss pedal acting like a buffer is kind of a chicken and the egg problem.
    Any extra knowledge? Any ideas to go around it?
    Thanks

    • @InspiringTracks
      @InspiringTracks  8 дней назад

      Thanks, glad you liked it! Yes, every Boss pedal AFAIK has a buffer. What you describe usually means that in regular conditions you are loosing some treble due to long cables, too many true bypass pedals, etc. (also known as tone suck) and the buffer gives your signal some extra kick to go trough all that without loosing high frequencies, which usually is the desired effect of using at least one buffer at the beggining and end of your signal chain

    • @soplalagarch
      @soplalagarch 8 дней назад

      @@InspiringTracks Thanks for the quick reply.
      Yep, I get it... The usual issue would be, because of a long signal chain, mids and treble will decay, so to compensate for that loss a buffer would need to boost those frequencies somehow, therefore it's a design trait. So... To get it straight, what we want with the buffer in this scenario is only the impedance conditioning right?
      Btw, if I followed you correctly, then my ears are not deceiving me, my amp really sounds harsher with a boss pedal in the signal chain, even when off, and that is... Because of the buffer.
      I like boss pedals because they're trustworthy and get the job done, but that might also explain the reason I always thought that going into a valve amp they suck a bit of the dynamics, meaning the natural compression of the valves is triggered in a different place (so to speak) than when plugged straight in. I suppose the picking intensity/dynamic response is something you can get used to if you always use a pedal or if you listen to people that uses them but I grew up listening to guys straight into Marshalls. It may also be if you have a long signal chain with just a buffer first, eventually the signal somewhat resets itself.
      But maybe it's just my gorilla hands that can't get the eq on the amp to compensate for said harshness.
      Thanks again, Cheers

    I think this would work but it can’t be ideal, some interfaces have balance only outputs, also there’s no transformer in a Boss pedal, the transformer steps down the line level signal coming out of the interface and converts it to a high impedance signal that your amp input expects to see. Also the transformer (a good quality one) should eliminate noise and hum. Not saying this won’t work, going straight from the interface to the amp will also work, again it won’t be ideal.

    • @InspiringTracks

      Thanks! I´m glad you liked the video! Used the Y cable because the HP output is stereo. Don't use a mono TR cable since with it you are shorting one of the channels and ground. I don't think you can damage anything but better stay on the safe side. If you dont have an Y cable you can perfectly use a balanced/stereo one (TRS to TRS plugs), the Boss pedal doesn't care

      Todas las opciones que mencionas tambien funcionan perfecto, yo use ese tipo de cable porque es lo que tenia a mano. Lo unico que tenes que evitar es usar un cable de guitarra mono TS/TS porque estarias haciendo corto entre tierra y uno de los canales dentro de la salida stereo de auriculares y, si bien es muy dificil que se queme algo, mejor no arriesgarse innecesariamente. Can you not go out one of the outputs on your audio interface? Does it have to be the stereo headphone output? I have 4 outputs o my audio ibterface. Can I not instead route my guitar audio track out of either out output 3 or 4? So it will be out a mono signal. Or are you going out the headphone output because you have an extra gain stage there that you can control with the headphone output volume?

    • @InspiringTracks

      Of course you can. Indeed if your interface has additional line outputs its preferable to use them. I used the HP outs because on my interface they are the only ones available apart from the main line outputs

    Alto mate aparece en acción por ahi jajaj. Muy bueno el video, no entendi mucho lo del cable "Y" conectado a la entrada de los auris... pero leyendo los comentarios veo que se puede usar un cable TRS a TRS y conectar la salida de la interface al pedal boss. Es correcto? Saludos desde Santa Fe!

    • @InspiringTracks
      @InspiringTracks  4 года назад +1

      Jaja bien ahi con la atencion al detalle! Uso el cable Y porque la salida de auris es stereo y si usara un cable TS comun de guitarra estaria poniendo en corto uno de los canales con masa, lo cual si bien no creo que le haga nada, con lo que valen las interfaces hoy en dia no esta para arriesgarse a quemar algo. Podes usar tranquilamente un cable stereo TRS o en su defecto usar una de las salidas mono de linea con un cable TS pero esto es medio engorroso porque tenes que andar desenchufando los monitores para hacer el reamp, no podes monitorear, etc. Un abrazo grande desde Bs As!!

    Great vid! I’m just confused on the Y cable part. I didn’t see you connect the third tip into anything, so I guess I’m just wondering if the Y cable is entirely necessary? Or if I can use a regular instrument cable?

    • @InspiringTracks
      @InspiringTracks  4 года назад +4

      Dont use a regular mono cable. Since the headphone output is stereo, if you plug a mono cable you are shorting the ring and sleeve contacts of the interface and you dont want that. Its probably fine and I dont think you can break anything but better stay on the safe side

    • @InspiringTracks

      I think it should work. Since boss pedals are mono I think they use only the tip and sleeve part of a stereo TRS connector. Of course if you are handy with a soldering iron you can make a TRS to TR cable specifically for this and it should work great

    Hey there, thank you so much for the video. I have a question for you that is slightly off-topic but has to do with what you’re saying.
    I am playing an acoustic guitar through a TC helicon play acoustic pedal. The Pedal does not have a guitar through but has an XLR DI guitar out. I want to run into a boss OC three, then into a NUX Atlantic, and then into a boss RC 500 after the play acoustic pedal… Then run it into my mixer.
    I am on a forum right now trying to figure out if I need an impedance transformer coming out of the play acoustic which outputs at around 300/150 ohms from the XLR direct out.
    My question:
    If I got a female XLR to 1/4” TS cable, would the first boss Pedal I run it into after my play acoustic pedal work the same as a Lo-Z to Hi-Z transformer?

    • @BanyanMakes
      @BanyanMakes 5 месяцев назад

      I know you asked this a while ago. But, if you are still wondering: You don't plug it into anything. It is a mono track, he is using the Y cable (stereo to dual mono) just to isolate half of the headphone out to make sure the pedal doesn't receive twice the signal (voltage from BOTH left and right) from the headphone output. So, TRS jack into the headphone, one of the mono jacks into the pedal, the other mono unplugged - doing nothing.

    The Boss pedal DID NOT sufficiently eliminate ground noise which could be heard within the first half seconds once the DAW started recording the reamped track. Most reamp boxes will significantly reduce the ground buzzing noise, but most do not completely eliminate it. Reamping through extreme distortion pedals for extreme metal will only make this buzzing noise much louder and annoying, especially on djent or muted chugging with lots of silence breaks.

    • @InspiringTracks
      @InspiringTracks  4 года назад

      No noise at all, a reamp box is better of course but this works just great

    • @tauvholiik7936
      @tauvholiik7936 4 года назад +1

      @@InspiringTracks Yes, what you recorded worked for the type of riffs being played with the types of distortion you are using. I have tried your technique with my gear and it does eliminate some noise but only slightly. I am building my own 6 channel reamp box with volume and impedance control knobs for a Roland GK2/3 breakout box of which other DIY breakout boxes do not use. But I use both the Digitech and DOD Death Metal Pedals which already requires 2 noise suppressors to keep silent. I use my Roland VG88 for its Virtual Guitar and Virtual amp for reamping back into impulse response pedals. I must eliminate all noise in DI and Reamp, and possibly a vst plugin (next agenda), without losing high fidelity so as to NOT amplify any additional noise

    • @InspiringTracks
      @InspiringTracks  4 года назад +1

      Usually when you are reamping trough a guitar amp other things that aren't guitars is because you want to impart the sonic characteristics of the amp to that instruments, kind of like an effect. They have a narrow frequency response with little bass and high end, and they distort easily and in a musical way, if that's the effect you want they are great, if not maybe you can try something else. And this method works great for the casual home recorded who do some reamp every now and then, if you plant to make a lots of reamps it isn't a bad idea to invest in a dedicated box
