  • PSA: Kegels will not help you have a smooth delivery. Our pelvic floor muscles need to relax and get out of the way so we can create a larger opening to allow the baby to come out.
We need to open up the pelvic outlet and get these muscles used to stretching as we assist the pelvis bones in opening up for delivery. We can use our knowledge of how women gave birth 100s of years ago to give us a heads up on how to prepare our pelvic floor. Traditionally, squatting and supported standing positions were the common way for women to deliver a baby.
This is because squatting naturally lengthens the pelvic floor, plus it allows us to take advantage of gravity to move the baby down and out. Practicing getting into a deep squat and breathing here to allow that lengthening is one great way to open up the pelvic floor.
