This was a factory part option at the time and a few of the guys I knew used it for rally events, dirt bush roads in mountains, forests etc where thing were under duress. @2:43, it most assuredly was NOT the speedo cable holding you up. Given the position of the engine, based upon decades of VW Service, I'm saying that the throttle cable end, was probably catching on its tube that runs through the fan shroud... assuming you remembered to unfastened it from the throttle lever in the first place! 🤣
"ok guys just walk up toward the car together and act like you're just discovering it, and then have a conversation about it, blah blah blah then make an offer ok? Now action!"
My brother had a 65 red. My first car was a 67 green - paid 600$ back in 1980. I sold it for a Buick Skylark which was fast and had big bench seats.... but I sold it for My second 67 Red bug. . I bought it for the body because I knew I could throw in a used motor for 200$. I had it till around 88 when I bought a Honda Civic wagon which I could drive back and forth across the country Rock Climbing and Paddling.
I knew a dude in the mid 80’s that worked at Car Pool Auto Wash . N a time period when everyone wanted muscle cars , z28 , rx7’s .... he had a bunch of Bugs . I think half of them could pop wheelies 🤘🏼. I guess my point is , there’s a place for all cars if done right
I once changed a vw engine on the side of the road by hand just a few tools. Picked up the engine myself. Put it in the trunk of my friends car. Went and got a replacement. Then installed new engine myself no jack.
Back in the late 60's I remember seeing a Beetle at the local drag strip running low 10 sec with a Volkswagon engine! Heavily modified of course but it was super fast. It sounded kinda like a coffee peculator as it was waiting for the lights.
I knew dude who put a 327 in a bug and had motorcycle chains to transfer the power....and at the drag, he got paid to do wheelies to entertain the crowd
There needs to be a competitively priced suspension package for the air cooled vw world that helps these cars handle well. Trailing arms up front is no good over stock power around a corner. These cars need an easy bolt on front a arm and pan reinforcing kit. With 200hp and suspension that’s good enough to control the wheels without excessive bumpsteer, these cars will chase down “proper” sports cars. A proam or fd drift beetle would be a game changer.
Russell Krue ... If you know where to look and what to start with it makes a major difference. Nothing wrong with the stock front suspension that a little lowering and a bigger sway bar wont fix. Karman Gia front spindles will get you front disc brakes, which will accept type 3 front calipers. (almost 50% more pad area) All stock parts so cheap. If you start with a 68 (or newer) bug you will have IRS out back and the right camber. Not sure who makes a rear sway bar but that would finish things up. You can also lower a bug a few inches by using low profile tires and save a bunch of work elsewhere while retaining all stock parts for reliability. I mean, who is going to drive a bug over 100 mph where a slam-dunk makes a difference?
rupe53 - I would agree with you if I was interested in a street driven lightweight car using stock parts. I remember seeing a heavily modified kafer cup car type 1 (180+hp type 4, can’t remember if it was a super) vs a 964 Rs and the beetle had a faster lap time. Air cooled 911s have an 89” wheelbase while a type 1 beetles wb is 94”. It’s just the front trailing arms have a difficult time controlling camber while in a corner while under load. It’s a robust design...just not for track work. 924/944 rear trailing arms bolt into an irs pan with custom spring plates and they’ve got great brakes and the ebrakes are usable.
@@Russell_and_Rosko ... would agree that one can engineer around all sorts of things but I was talking the biggest bang for the buck.... using stock parts. Most people don't realize you can dial in a little more camber with the ball joint front end if needed. You can also utilize the "adjust-a-drop" modification to lower things while keeping the same spring rate. Wish someone made that for the rear.

This would have been impressive 3 days ago. Two days ago I stumbled across the ultimate sleeper. Aside from two rollcage struts low in the back side windows it looks like a stock Beetle. They shoehorned a Subaru boxer 4, producing 527hp at the rear wheel in there.

I don't like the lowered aspect of it, nor the 17" wheels... Back in the day, we would put G50-15s on the rear... They would fit on the stock rims... I have no idea what that tire size would result in these days, but it was a tight fit and could have probably done with a bit of lift in the rear suspension or some slightly wider fenders... According to this: www.pontiacserver.com/tires.html A G50-15 would be 10.35" section width and 25.46" height... So, approximately a 263-50-15 tire... Mine might have been a bit older than this one since it originally had the 6V electrical system... Over the years, things got swapped out with parts from other Bugs, so in reality it was quite a mix of years... Too many years have gone by and I don't remember what year mine had started out as...
It's hard as hell to find a 65' in that condition, I don't think it's worth that price, but if it means you get help, suspension work, and it won't bust your wallet, screw it, you're golden.

I had a 1970 beetle with a 2110 I also sprayed it with a 100 shot.Ran well
"ok guys just walk up toward the car together and act like you're just discovering it, and then have a conversation about it, blah blah blah then make an offer ok? Now action!"
“NOT MY MOMS, BEETLE”. 🔥🔥🔥🏁
I call cap on the 200 horse. Aint no way they got 200 Horsepower out of a type 1 Engine, you can usually only build those to around 150 maximum.
My girl first car was a 63 when we were like 16..she would let me drive..I loved that little car..it was a white with chrome trim 1300 CC
I'd pay 6k for that with the Beam!
I knew a dude in the mid 80’s that worked at Car Pool Auto Wash . N a time period when everyone wanted muscle cars , z28 , rx7’s .... he had a bunch of Bugs . I think half of them could pop wheelies 🤘🏼. I guess my point is , there’s a place for all cars if done right
Sitting higher it looked better. I think they've messed with the camber angle too...
It hurts to see them mess with the proportions of a classic, but that's Gas Monkey. At least the suspension and wheels can be easily replaced, again.
They dont drive very well lowered like that. Alot of bump steer.
Ginés de Pasamonte
... when you loser the back on a swing axle you get negative camber. You have no choice.
This is the coolest Beetle i’ve ever seen.
Great job, guys.
That thing is GREAT!
Shows not the same without Aaron.
Yes, much better nowdays.
TheReinoPaasonen Fuck you
HAY RICHARD GET FUCKED LOSER
its even better now
Walter Mercado lmao show is still great, who gives a shit about Aaron? He’s not loyal! So stop acting like a little bitch.
I once changed a vw engine on the side of the road by hand just a few tools. Picked up the engine myself. Put it in the trunk of my friends car. Went and got a replacement. Then installed new engine myself no jack.
what kind of exhaust is on there, super cool, sleeper vibes!
Russell Krue
Wish someone made that for the rear.
sorry i missed this part but where does the 200bhp comes from?
I like that Toyota Land Cruiser in the back
Our 65 color was Panama Beige. That looks like the same color. My brother rolled it in 70. What kind of motor went into this build?
Where can we find frond, rear suspension, gearbox and engine for beetle ? Wanna bring it down to Sri Lanka..
I can ship them, original parts
Front Suspension: obviously Airkewld, USA, AZ, "Ultimate Beam", looks to me 4" narrowed, no shock towers (+ the 17" Wheels)
Gearbox: not sure, might be a Rancho "Type1-Pro", USA, CA
Motor/Engine: they did not say, but I'd wager from CB Performance, Turnkey crate 2276?; also USA, CA
Exhaust: looks like a Vintage-Speed SST, 200hp kit. Made in Taiwan
.. if you really want it, ask them if they ship to you :)
Wow!!! That actually looks good!
This would have been impressive 3 days ago. Two days ago I stumbled across the ultimate sleeper. Aside from two rollcage struts low in the back side windows it looks like a stock Beetle. They shoehorned a Subaru boxer 4, producing 527hp at the rear wheel in there.
Man, it looked sooooo much better when they first set it down and said the back was too high..... miss my '68....
What I don't understand is why they bought an almost new car to change the motor, etc...if they could buy a cheaper car with no motor etc...No sense.
It's a tv show with a budget that allows it. it's a shame they wasted an all original that would've just needed a buff and simple maintainece to turn it into a prime collector car.
I like the way it turned out but it's still a shame
It's a blank/clean canvas! No extra stuff to do, especially body work, which is the time and money suck on these old vws.
VW beetle japanese! (Cinematographic)
ruclips.net/video/bUYMWuFUzNA/видео.html
It was an unmolested original. That is perfect to begin with no matter what. Other people haven't gone through it, made a bunch of changes and beat it up.
Lots of sense , cause once a car has been fucked with it’s not worth 10cents
Probably closer to 30k to buy something like that in aus it’s so hard to find old cars now days
No it is not hard to find them at all
Is that Richard guy still on TV?
I only watch that show for Aaron and his work.
He pulled the plug last year.
Bought a new 50 horse 1300 in 1966, 495 dollars. Fitted 1600 barrels and pistons, twin port heads,Webber downdraft carb and a good quality extractor system. Great result for a reasonable cost. Suspension work turned out a little costly.
Good job, can anyone tell me where to get those upgrade Engine and other stuffs, thanks
If you google it you can find it. Just got gas money vw big parts. I’ve found it before
Front Suspension: Airkewld, USA, AZ, "Ultimate Beam", looks to me 4" narrowed, no shock towers (+ the 17" Wheels)

Dang, this really makes me want to buy a bug now and do this.
I’ve never liked a bug before. I want to build one exactly like it but oily black everywhere this one is chalky white. Leather interior with black plaid inserts. Dual chrome exhaust tips
@@negativeindustrial i just bought a 63 at the Mecum auction in Houston last Dec,it was a herbie style, now its in the shop and gonna be deep black, red seats door panels and carpet, the rest will be black, disc brakes all around and air suspension. Can't wait to have it delivered.
Sweet Bug....what is the asking...$$$...? Guy that had 3 bugs and a Ghia. Drove type 1 for 10 years. Thanks. Subscribed.
Just beautiful! 👌
No real mention on what-all there is to the engine... such as: Displacement, induction.... }:(
I saw an earlier post of this car and they said the engine cost 5500 quite a lot when the car was 6K.
pancudowny grrrrrrr
checkbook custom
Homie look like the humble mechanic
'cept he aint
This got me busting up laughing when they were pulling the motor, they said "speedo cable, hold up" 😂😂 🤦♂️. They were definately in foreign territory. Speedo cable is in driver front wheel hub on all early v-dubs (type 1,2 & 3 etc.). 😂😂😂😂
Very cool!!!! 👍👍👍
That bug is awesome love it just like I love my 70
Anyone else curious how much they put into it and what they sold it for? A follow up note in the description would be nice.
How all Fast n loud episodes should have been edited :P
Touché 😂
You are not going to tell us what you did to the engine to make 200 hp?
Title should be Arron rolled two tires. While others build a car
Michael Bergman lol
He is shop foreman they watch over and sip coffee
You ever think about putting the vw body on a t-bucket frame. Then a tunnel ram intake small block. Also a dragster narrowed rear tubes
5500 was a steal for that car
Thunder Grip idk. Where I’m from you can get them for 2-3 grand in that condition all day long
Ryan Lusby are you in the rust belt? Cause a non rusty all original bug that’s not molested like that in AZ is like 7k
In mexico y'all get it for 3k on that condition
Ogler De Leon yea for like a 1995 lol
In Europe such car in good driving condition goes to 18k...
Does any know where to purchase the prebuilt suspension from ?
i bought my 54 for 5 grand. looks and runs fine.}1500} Plugged in a 2276, big valves, dual 44s, and I'm sure it is no where near 200 horse. But she does haul ass. They would have to raise the compression ratio to drag race heights to get that much horse and it would be unreliable.
According to this:
www.pontiacserver.com/tires.html
A G50-15 would be 10.35" section width and 25.46" height...
Camber on back wheels except for that rest is sweet nice
It's hard as hell to find a 65' in that condition, I don't think it's worth that price, but if it means you get help, suspension work, and it won't bust your wallet, screw it, you're golden.
Definitely don't miss Aaron
Absolutely fantastic, air cooled power rocks!
Out of all the abandoned, gutted, bugs there is out there they choose to pick a 100% original one smh. Could’ve went with a barn find or something if your going to swap everything anyways.
I saw the thumbnail and said “ /: damn another beetle bites the dust.” Then I clicked and saw they did this to a 100% original. Huge bummer. Driving crooked down the highway... slapped together for a RUclips video.
@@kavenmendes na bro they made that think look sick and preform like crazy. no one would rather have the car like how they bought it all boring and stock. just my two cent m8
Starting Tech not only did they not mention displacement, they didn’t even let you hear it run besides the half second flyby on a nearly stationary camera. The engine looks like they slapped on an alternator and bolt on rocker covers. Ive never seen 200HP out of a VW engine that wasn’t kitted up with obvious performance upgrades. They painted the wheels 4 times according to them.. I kind of feel bad for you if that’s work you’d be satisfied with.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion. So your saying you would rather have it how they bought it?
Starting Tech I agree, everyone’s entitled to an opinion. I’d personally keep it the way they bought it. But if I were to do work to it, I’d want it to be quality and real
STRAIGHT BANANAS 🔥🔥🔥🏁
i sold mine for 1800... 67' great condition... traded bit of cash it up for a 66 mustang ... if i ever get another... the newest would be 64... id like a 58 or older

He’s had one...
Air cooled Boxer 🥰 nice Job!

When a 65 beetle makes more power than your el camino
Audience, I have a 79 Super Beetle Convertible stored for the last 4 years. I haven't driven it since, I replaced the wheel cylinders, master cylinder, brakes, tires, brake lines, fuel pump, carb, distributor, new struts, and rear coil over shocks. My battery is now dead, and a car cover it. I'm retiring the first of next year, and then I'll hit it back up. Hasn't decided if I'm going to keep it or sell it.
This is a way of making your vw beetle feel like Herbie
Where is the front suspension, gearbox and motor from?
from the place they bought the car if i understood it correctly
Front Suspension: Airkewld, USA, AZ, "Ultimate Beam", looks to me 4" narrowed, no shock towers (+ the 17" Wheels)
Gearbox: not sure, might be a Racho "Type1-Pro", USA, CA
Motor: they did not say, but I'd wager from CB Performance, Turnkey crate 2276?; also USA, CA
65 Beetle: O to 60 in two weeks
Dude!! What about that Brasilia over there!! Nice!
That was NOT a 200 hp engine.
Anyone know where I can get a front end like that. Already assembled
