I love this episode so much. People have slagged it off for years, but I've always loved it. It has a very charming and sweet simplicity to it, and you can't help but really feel for Eugene.
"This is a weird ass episode." THIS IS? This is when it gets weird in this show? I feel like every episode of Torchwood is really weird. And I love all of it. XD
This episode felt like a redemption for love and monsters centering around an eccentric and obsessed likable man. Unlike love and monsters, this episode has a real heart to it.
Yeah, I did get that same vibe when I first watched it, the narration, the following of some dudes life, but in the end it had a very different story and I really like this episode, way more than Love and Monsters. That one just creeped me out.
The Happy Cook restaurant is a fictional amalgam of two service restaurants. Little Chef and Happy Eater. In fact, the location for the Happy Cook was one of those restaurants. I think, although I'm not entirely sure, that both companies have since folded, but they were ubiquitous during the 80s and 90s.
Jack wasn't just going on about it... he explained what it does. It lets you look back, it gives you perspective. Alien DMT. And Eugene was lucky or unlucky enough to swallow it just before he died.
The message here is don't waste your life. Because that's what Eugene did. Instead of having agency and forward momentum, he got hurt early on in life, and spent the rest of it waiting for some alien to show up. That's why it has a sad ending, because it is sad, it's a waste. And Eugene is telling us not to waste our lives. It isn't my favourite episode, but it's alright. Obviously it's a low budget episode, as the only alien element is the eye itself, and for a low budget episode, they manage to do something interesting. And tonally, it's a bit different. Torchwood is still very much trying to work out what kinda show it wants to be.
Nobody: Not even me: Not even the government: Not even Donald trump: Not even Liam Neeson: Not even John wick: Not even Thanos: Not even Santa: Not even god: Not even the universe: Torchwood: Here you go!
@@zeallust8542 I did pay attention to the episode. I never said that there is an afterlife in Torchwood but this episode kind of references it and shows how it could be like
Torchwood Season 1 is really flakey. The next episode is the only episode I think is really solid and grows the characters. Sadly season 2 wasn't much better.
so... how we feel about this one chat?🤔

it was VERY average
"...hinting that Jack and Ianto might be a thing."
To be honest, I'd completely forgotten that they weren't...
Yet another underrated episode of Torchwood
Possibly the best episode of season 1.
I love this episode so much. People have slagged it off for years, but I've always loved it. It has a very charming and sweet simplicity to it, and you can't help but really feel for Eugene.

This was one of those episodes I didn't care for much ... initially. But with multiple rewatchings, I'm come to really appreciate and like it.
me too!
This episode felt like a redemption for love and monsters centering around an eccentric and obsessed likable man. Unlike love and monsters, this episode has a real heart to it.
One of the best episodes of Torchwood.
I feel like this is the Love & Monsters of Torchwood - it's from a cringey wholesome guy's perspective, idk it just has a very similar vibe

I actually really liked 'Love & Monsters', but this felt like too much of a re-tread.

I think it's one of my favorite Torchwood episodes. It's hard not to feel for Eugene.
Everytime i watch this episode i can never tell if i think its the best Torchwood episode or the worst Torchwood episode
Same!
Exactly the same lmao
I love this episode, a personal fave. It’s corny in places but it’s perfect.
Jack wasn't just going on about it... he explained what it does.
It lets you look back, it gives you perspective.
Alien DMT.
And Eugene was lucky or unlucky enough to swallow it just before he died.
Random Shoes is really strange, but it’s one of my favorite episodes.
People don't seem to like this episode but i think it's kinda wholesome and interesting

One thing I never got was why is Eugene english and the rest of his family is welsh?
lmao true
Hahaha why did I just notice that? No wonder he felt out of place.
The mother's not Welsh.
one of my favourites

Btw in the last episode suzie said that there is no afterlife and this one is about a guy who died but became like a ghost
It was the eye. There is no afterlife. This was advanced alien technology
Aaaaand you paid 0 attention to the episode, clearly.

This is a weird episode, and I get how it can be divisive. I personally love it though.
This episode always chokes me up.
i still can’t look at that eye without remembering john’s story noooo
I have a glass eye myself and i think it wouldn’t be the most attractive thing for me to wear
ngl I kinda love this episode
This is an off episode and i like it. I see it as life is short and enjoy it while you can because you never know what might happen.
I think the word you’re looking for is bittersweet or melancholy.
The Love and Monsters of Torchwood
Nah thats the cyber woman😆
Nah I loved every episode of dr who and torchwood ever tbh there ain't much I dont like film n the show n game wise
No love and monsters is way worse
Totally is, Elton is exactly the same "perspective on life" device
I was thinking that
That eye has been places...
I like this episode the more I watch it. I think Eugene’s actor was a bit miscast though, his voiceovers sound better fit for CBBC
A lot of people don't like this one, but it's my favourite torchwood episode (if you ignore all of Children Of Earth as a whole series)
love some occasional wierdness
Ah DI Dimmock from Sherlock lol
This episode chokes me up a bit.
i dont remember this episode wtf

I would definitely say Series 2 is a huge improvement but fair enough
That's your opinion. It's weird the majority opinion used to be the opposite a while ago, now there's a lot of comments agreeing with you.
Its funny. This used to be my favourite episode but as times gone it its probably my least favourite of all lol
ree
A swing and a miss for this one, I think...
not a big fan of this episode
this episode reminded me of love & monsters
Honestly can’t stand this episode I just find it so cringe all the way through, like, worse than cyberwoman
