My 12 year old son does jiu jitsu. I come from striking because JJ wasnt really a thing when i was a kid. We play wrestle on the couch at night, and i toss him around as you would expect. He managed to latch on a rear naked choke on me, and i was shocked at the squeeze on my neck. He gets that on a kid his size... they are in trouble
